TV rights thread part 4

I raised the point in one of these threads that they said there was no value in this deal for a 9th game or something to those words. So I suggested that a 17th team could come in for 2015 and you'd still only have 8 games a week, then for 2018 the 18th team comes in and you have 9 games for the new deal.

I take it as 9 games is off the cards until 2018 but another team could happen before then.

Has anyone ever thought Gyngall has run Nine into the ground for his best mate James Packer to come in and buy Nine on the cheap? I say this because I see the ultra rich like Gina Rhinehardt (mining) desperate to buy into media for the sake of controlling public opinion etc. I'm sure the media would be a useful tool for casino owners as well.

Why does Gyngall keep a job at a company he runs and has run into ground financially? It doesn't make sense. Am I missing something?

McGuire ran Nine into the ground financially and Gyngell was brought in to fix the mess.

I never got how the host of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire was somehow qualified to run a TV station.

Gyngell has little to do with the financial situation at nine.

The group that bought nine (CVC) shifted their debt to channel nine as a way of financing the purchase.

This debt has nothing to do with operations at nine.

well someone is telling fibs seeing the ARLC have said numerous times they brought up a 9th game in negotiations yetv all broadcasters said it would add no value to the deal

It was just something to shut people up for the time being until a decision is made.

As I said when the deal was announced, more clarity is needed around the 9th game. It sounds like no one owns the potential rights so if it's brought in by 2015 it could either be sold off for more $$$ or traded to 9/Fox in order to get more coverage/live coverage etc or a combination of both. It might mean 4 games on F2A with 2-3 live potentially if the ARLC were to go down that path.

ok so it laymans terms....

Say a friend owed you $90,000...

Which is a fair chunk of change, he promised to pay you in Feb 13

You then find out there is a chance his business may go into liquidation in December 12

And your reaction would be :

A ) I am not at all concerned,

B) I am pretty f**king worried

C) I am f**ked, the wife will kill me

Sorry John Grant but the answer is NEVER GOING TO BE A

If for some reason 9 go broke, you can guarantee that the ARLC will still be paid what they're owed. Either by CVC or the government.

Nine's not going anywhere.

No they won't. 9 would have more immediate debts than an NRL broadcast deal. In bankruptcy proceedings, the creditors are paid first. By the time it gets to the NRL, they'll get a smidgen of their money, if any at all.

Possibly but 9 won't be going bankrupt. The operation actually makes money but is saddled with debt by CVC as stated above.

More like your friend promised to buy your car for $90,000 in Feb 13.
He can not pay you, but you still have the car to sell to someone else.
