There is NO WAY more people watched the GF in Melbourne than in Brisbane, and more people in Sydney watched the AFL GF than Brisbane watched the NRL. I reckon those Brisbane figures are incorrect.

Although it being a long weekend for the first time in QLD's history could have hurt the ratings somewhat.

lack of market exposure/presence in Adelaide and Perth really hurts us in the Metro ratings.

However Regionals should give it a significant boost

Considering Melbourne has close to double the population (4.1m to 2.1m) it's not that hard to believe.

While the regionals are usually always bigger for the NRL, I don't think we're going to beat the AFL (4.05m with regionals).

Factoring in the AFL GF is early afternoon and NRL is closer to prime time (for the casual viewer) I am a little disappointed.

I like the logic Papa Bear because Adl and Perth combined got 20% of the total Bri (unconfirmed reports) they deserve a side??

There is no way that the GF rated less than a Mill in Sydney and only half a Mill in Brisbane. Only 200K more people in Sydney watched the GF than in Melbourne? Give me a break.

That would be a fair comparison if the sports were of equal footing in those cities, but they aren't.

The AFL Grand Final is quite clearly the biggest event on their calendar.

For better or worse, SoO is much, much bigger than the Grand Final in the NRL.

We've got around 4 matches a year hitting these ratings heights, so I don't see the big problem besides bragging rights.

If your product isn't in a city how can you expect people to be interested in it?

The afl ratings in Perth and the NRL ones in Brisbane show that Brisbane is punching well above its weight in terms of NRL viewers. Per head it is also much greater than Sydney or Melbourne.

The fact barely 400k more watched the NRL than the afl final Sydney is a concern. Global city?

The AFL rated 991k for the 2005 Swans grand final.

What's more disconcerting? The AFL being within 400k of the NRL for a bandwagon game (which will drop off next year like it always has) or the fact that the AFL lost 382,000 of those bandwagon viewers?

Why aren't you saying that the AFL should be concerned that the Storm in Melbourne outrated the Swans in Sydney...?

The Brisbane numbers are actually up on last year. Only way it would be much higher is if Brisbane were playing (2006 778k).

Considering Sydney's population, we should be doing better there.

edit: I wonder where the improvement was in the updated metro number.
