There's been 7 series, with confirmation that there will be an 8th and 9th series. It's usually hidden away on ABC2 about 12 months after it's shown in the UK, and it is purely car crash telly, but just so damn funny. The Mitchell and Webb Look (the sketch comedy series with the same 2 leads) has some fantastic sketches, like Numberwang.

Just on HIMYM, after returning strongly in season six, I've found the current season to probably be the worse.

Ted's doing nothing.
Lily is being a dope (drinking while pregnant? ah wtf?)
And both Robin and Barney, the two most independent characters are cocked/pussy whipped.

Marshall is the only character doing anything productive.

A tryhard Seinfeld wannabe. The only thing worthy in that show is the eye candy that Robin gives. Doogie howser and the rest are just shitful.

peep show... the inbetweeners... office uk... wilfred AU...

that's 4 in recent memory off the top of my head, and i'm restricting myself to comedy. if you want to go into other genres i can probably rattle off 10 off the top of my head, most likely out of the UK. i don't particularly feel that all TV coming out of the states is horrible, though... even in comedy. i quite enjoy How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory, even if they do get a bit cheap or lame at times. both are infinitely wittier that 2 1/2 men.

IT Crowd is pretty good as well.

The yanks have some good shows (early weeds, Curb etc) but their mass appeal sitcoms are, well, woeful (think Two and a Half Men, previously shows like Everybody Loves Raymond).

i'm almost certain that this is the first time i've mentioned AD in a thread aside from the AD thread? happy to be proven wrong, I guess... but i can't recall bringing it up another time.

AD was, and is, absolutely sensational. you're just butthurt that I told it how it is about a piece of shit show that you actually think is funny. I don't need the American public to identify good comedy for me, they're actually extremely poor at it. the fact that you agree with them reflects poorly on yourself, not I.

More than happy to admit 2 1/2 men is shit now with Ashton in the picture. It did have funny parts to it though when Sheen was in it, and I'm not talking about the repetitive scenes, more or less the things that you didn't see coming... and there were plenty of them.

Won't make much difference. Most of the digital channels such as Go, Gem and 11 show reruns. You're going to have to eventually buy digital anyway. Might as well do it now while the new LCD, LED and Plasma televisions are dirt cheap.

I actually think HIMYM is more a modern day 'Friends' than anything else! Robin isn't that hot. Barney's dates are way hotter.

Barney settling down brings a big wtf for me. For the past 6 seasons he's been the type of guy against marriage and what have you, and suddenly he's ready to settle and meets a girl who he's head over heels about.

No it's a shit show because all the jokes follow the same poor formula that appeals to the lowest common denominator. Just like Big Band Theory which tries to sound intelligent when it isn't. You can put any Chuck Lorre show into that category.

I understand Baron.

I used to hate Lorre shows, thought it was lowest common denominator program filled with cheap laughs and usually irritable characterisation and cliched plots. Then I went to stay with my relatives who I rarely hang out with, and had little in common with, that was, until we sat around watching The Big Bang Theory. I never really cared for it before, but it catered to everyone, and everyone in the room had a laugh here or there, so really I understood it's importance and dropped the whole tv elitist shtick.

Bulldogs Force - I understand why Barney is dropping the whole womanizing shtick as last season focussed on his development as a character. I just wish they'd stop making him look so pathetic in doing so.
