Two and a half men cancelled

Why do you always have to be the one to bring up AD? Do you know why that show last 3 seasons and got canceled? If AD was really as good as you're making it out to be it would've been high in the ratings and would not have been canceled;

Because Americans are stupid. Didnt tell them when to laugh, developed jokes across entire series, subtle sight gags, brilliant writing. Not a winner as a mainstream comedy but so far ahead of the garbage two and a half men it isnt funny

The fact it took the yanks almost 5 years to finally like Seinfeld is proof enough to how comedically docile they are.

Make a sitcom with a laugh track - people will instantly believe it is funny.

i'm almost certain that this is the first time i've mentioned AD in a thread aside from the AD thread? happy to be proven wrong, I guess... but i can't recall bringing it up another time.

AD was, and is, absolutely sensational. you're just butthurt that I told it how it is about a piece of shit show that you actually think is funny. I don't need the American public to identify good comedy for me, they're actually extremely poor at it. the fact that you agree with them reflects poorly on yourself, not I.

Don't know how shit like Two and a Half Men & Big Bang Theory get renewed each year and they put Outsourced on a shit time-slot, it rated well & was really funny...and they cancelled it after 1 season. wtf.

I rate big bang theory, its not in the curb or seinfeld league but good dialogue and decent characters, barring Bernadette who is just annoying. Hopefully the writers don't push Sheldon any further into the spotlight either, the show is at it's best when the 5 main characters get equal air time.

Two and a half men - it induces the odd giggle but I'm not interested in how many whores Charlie sheen nails in real life or fiction. Bland and cliche rubbish.

There's only ever been one genuinely good American comedy show - Seinfeld

Everything else prior and since has been crap.

Two and a half men is the most mindnumblingly unamusing tedious shit that only people with an IQ less than triple digits would find remotely amusing.

Can't believe people actually bought the DVD's. I haven't watched a second of this series since about episode 3, season 1. At that stage, the script was already being repeated.

Interested to know what great TV other nations other than the US are putting out??

There's the office (which was drastically overrated, much like the fat prick who wrote it).... and, uh....

peep show... the inbetweeners... office uk... wilfred AU...

that's 4 in recent memory off the top of my head, and i'm restricting myself to comedy. if you want to go into other genres i can probably rattle off 10 off the top of my head, most likely out of the UK. i don't particularly feel that all TV coming out of the states is horrible, though... even in comedy. i quite enjoy How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory, even if they do get a bit cheap or lame at times. both are infinitely wittier that 2 1/2 men.

I love The Mighty Boosh but it's an acquired taste. I'd rate extras over the office. Both UK.

ooo ooo, i forgot Trailer Park Boys. put that at the top of my list.

one thing i have noticed about the shows i'm naming is that none actually tell you when to laugh. you have to actually listen and think to enjoy them.

I don't think the quality of television has been any higher. Just got to know what to look out for.

having said that, some really good american shows (mostly comedy) to balance out the ledger:

Weeds
Breaking Bad
Curb Your Enthusiasm
30 Rock
Wilfred US
South Park

i totally agree with you, Pete. across the board, TV is going through an absolute golden age. there are an absolute plethora of quality shows to watch without resorting to the lowest common denominator watching shows such as the one that is the topic of this thread. i'm only touching on comedies/dramadies... if i branch into other genres i'll burn my keyboard out.

peep show...

This.

There's been 7 series, with confirmation that there will be an 8th and 9th series. It's usually hidden away on ABC2 about 12 months after it's shown in the UK, and it is purely car crash telly, but just so damn funny. The Mitchell and Webb Look (the sketch comedy series with the same 2 leads) has some fantastic sketches, like Numberwang.

In my opinion, Robert Webb and Mitchell Webb >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Matt Lucas and David Walliams (Little Britain).

How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory are probably the 2 best "laugh track" sitcoms comign out of the states at the moment. enjoy them both, HIMYM definitely the favourite of the 2.
