Rothfield is a Sharkies supporter and goes to every game.

I wonder if he has paid membership or just uses his media pass to get into the ground?

I'd be surprised if this muckraker spent a cent. He's better credentialed to be writing for Sydney Confidential than on RL.

in the blogs underneath the story where people have been replying to him, he mentioned that he is a season ticket holder.

whether that is true or not is a different story.

There are 2 points here, as weall know we are in financial trouble, so if we cant survie as we are now 2 options relocation or private ownership.

If we relocate and are still the sharks i would support us, i moved out of sydney, i still support the sharks, for some franchises moving was a blessing, we are know that in the NFL, the rams were based in Los Angeles, won nothing, moved to St Louis became superbowl champs.
Fitzroy in AFL are still the Lions even though now Brisbane, and still have great support in Melbourne, where we move would be the interesting part.
Relocate to Sunshine Coast QLD, its Rugby League state, and would be better option for those travelling from sydney to watch match then to Adelaide.

The other option private ownership, the saviour as Phil Rothfield said, who is it.

Elle - Of course gets metnioned with Peter Gow, & ET involved, ET the icon sets the right example.

Howard Baldwin - He alreadys owns the sharks

McGuian Wines - chance

AFL - Now wouldnt that be way out there

Phil Gould consortium - For some reason i have gut feeel about Gus being involved

i guess what Phil is on about and will confirm in detail if the council has agreed.
For what it's worth, the club was going to lodge an application with the SSC for a stage 1 DA development of their parking area(already they have residential zoning approval) early to mid march:
1) involving the construction of approx 140 seniors living apartments( in 2 buildings ) on the land east of the club.
2)a 150 room hotel
3)a people plaza
4) retail shops for club members and local residents.
Now i don't have to be a financial genius to know, you flog 140 apartments at say $3-400,000 at a guess is minimum $42million on just the apartments alone.Oh there are the funding costs from construction etc,but you can see where I am coming from.
Forget any notion of a white knight out there, prepared to buy the club.Every white knight has been hit by the financial crisis.

yeah but all that is maybe 3 years away???

thats 2 years to late?

No.If it gets the council go ahead with a second DA(mid 2009) with final plan details(architectural),I am led to believe construction would start early 2010 for completion within 18 months latest ,even early 2011 completion.A financial backer for the development, is already in the wings.
There is such a thing as buying off the plan, creating early cash flow.150 people attended the intitial workshop getting an idea of what was proposed .Remember the Shire has a large elderly population, and a shortage of this type of accommodation.

and that was the target audience that received invitation to the club late last year to sit through the presentations

2015 for all 3 stages to be completed, possibly 2016 Tai

they would want to release a very early prospectus to gain a short term financial advantage

it will be the funniest thing i have heard in a while if this development is the breaking story phil is going on about

Not knowing the full story, surely the apartments would be the first cab off the ranks and completion 2011 ,giving at least a decent cash flow,by unlocking the value of a dormant ATM asset. The hotel later and plaza are hardly going to set the tills flowing ,and the retail stores will contribute rent only.
Looking at unit block developments going on around the Shire, many are being flogged before completion.
I believe on that basis the club's bankers might be a tad more patient and flexible.
Maybe I am a super optimist Spider, lets face it following this mob(Sharks) for years you have to be.
I would rather be in the situation where the Sharks have the ability and agreed zoning (residential) in order to secure their long term future, than have no self owned ground with that ability.Otherwise the club would be a dead set certainty to either fold or relocate.
I just hope what I think has happened ,that the Council has finally got off its ar*e and approved the D/A.If not start booking Adelaide tickets.:x

Rumours are rife that Stuart Roper has bought the club, installing himself as coaching co-ordinator and Simmo as captain.

In all seriousness would we expect anything else from the "news"paper in question. We all know that we continue to struggle financially - the beloved clubhouse is hardly the Vegas of the south. Although I think the Vegas of the west is struggling a bit too!!

I said earlier there is a story brewing at Cronulla about a future development where they can make some money from their assets. Keep an eye on the paper in the next few days.

This development has been going at a snail's pace for over a decade. I watched the debate with biased (pro Sharks) interest from the council gallery as Don McLean would say `a long, long time ago........'. :?
