Two requests for all LWOS posters

Looking at WORL has made me realise what a great job 20 or so "fire fighters" were doing for several months. Now that most of them have left the whole place has gone up in flames, as if all the Girdler fans are spraying their Impulse aerosol cans in there or something. As soon as popular posters started moving over to LWOS I knew the meek would eventually inherit the earth, I just never realised it would happen so quickly. Despite this, there are two things I'd like to see ALL of us to try and do regarding WORL: 1) Just copy and paste some of yourinitial topicposts and re-post them there. It's not too much of an effort to "cast two nets" and there's always the chance you might pull in a few more decent replies. Also remember that WORL brought most of us together. It's all very well to head out on evening patrols to places like allblacks.com and rugby.com.au fighting fighting inthe name of rugby league, but we really owe it to the WORL site- the heart of league territory on the web- to make sure it doesn't look like a complete bomb site itself. Imagine the laughssome similar squadron of union or AFL supporters will get out of visiting the WORL forums right now. As a Kiwi I'm well aware a lot of people have always maintained in their smug little heads that no rugby league fan hasthe brain power beyond that of a neanderthal. If they ever appear in numbers, we need to unleash a (strangely optimistic!) Mystery Man or two on them, flanked by plenty of MFC's, Willow's, Billy the Pig's, GavBT's, etc. 2)Be a LWOS scout and keep an eye out forhigh quality posters struggling along at WORL or other forums. Offer those members the opportunity of joining LWOS by posting this address: http://communities.ninemsn.com.au/legendsworldofsport/dragons.msnw?all_topics=1 . It may sound like I want to cripple WORL even further, but pooling together the more "learned posters" as MFC put it, before they get disillusionedby the mountain ofteeny-bopper threads and vanish, can't be possibly be a bad thing. Let me know what you think, Kipper

kipper, i will pass on that i think mate. the threads will be swallowed up and spat out in no time.
i agree with you about being grateful to worl . i have met some great people (yourself inc) on that site and have had a lot of fun.the time came for me to move on after what i believe was the worl starting to stagnate and become dragged down to the teenyboppers level.
or maybe it was me stagnating ??
i dont know, but i,m settled here now at legends and i,m feeling very comfortable about it.
this site will grow very big , very quickly.
we are going to have to be on our toes to ensure it stays a high quality footy site.

Thanks very much foryour consideration Kipper.

If it wasn't for the WORL forum, I would have had more time on hands so I'm not sure if I'm entirely grateful )
But you're absolutely right, it was great once and we all enjoyed it for what it was and I know I've met some great people there.
As for Union or AFL fans having a laugh at WORL, well I can't really help that. I'm not going to concern myself with the ignorance of a few lurkers who are really looking at the contributions from those who came in through the Footy Show link.
I'll still post there from time to time but I can see my contributions in WORL already being scaled down. Naturally, I'll help anybody who is looking for a haven away from the avalanche of rubbishy posts and have already done so

I was there last night and it's quite a different looking place now. Like the flood gates have opened.

I agree with you all that we should be grateful to WORL, after all, it was the place that made us all (bar me) such great posters. It's disappointing to see such a popular place get totally flamed by innocent little girls and boys who want Girdler (girls)or The North Sydney Bears Junior Cheersquad (boys), but life must go on and like a pod of whales we must move on to the next feeding ground (not to make this sound like a temporary place legend, but noone can predict the future). We must do all we can to help the good posters in amongst the good posters. It's good to see so many of you doing what ozbash (with his haere ra W.O.R.L post) and legend (by creating this wonderful thunderdome) have done by creating a nice nest egg for the good or at least half decent posters. Good on you legend.

I agree with you Kipper and I am still posting there only a little less frequently. I was having a good discussion with The Beast about Norths plight but it was quickly relegated to the back pages and was overwhelmed with Gridler posts. I also agree it is becoming more difficult to find the quality posters on WORL. This site is currently sitting in the top spot in the communities section under Austrlian Football yet there are two communities that have more members but have relegated a spot.

My only wish is to get a little more exposure without having to spam so we can get all the quality posters on here without having to have an affiliate website like the footy show. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

LWOS is in my search engine submission program. After I enter a site into the program, it submitsthat site about every two weeks.
It's not spamming, just a program I pay a yearly fee for which saves me having to type all the details of my sites invidually into each engine. I just type it once, click a button and then forget about it.
Takes a while, weeks usually, but eventually it gets on all the major search engines.
I noticed that Ninemsn have their own directory as well.

Also, reciprocal links are still the way to go.

With all this in mind, perhaps we need to think of a few ways to make sure LWOS doesn't succumb to the same problems that have put us off WORL.
As the official forum for the WORL site, the WORL forum has a duty to treat pretty much all fans equally, be they teenyboppers, casual fans, serious footy stat freaks, whatever. LWOS has the luxury of not having the samerepresentative responsibilities, so I think a certain degree of "editorial naziism" which would havew been unacceptable in WORL would be an asset to this forum. Basically what I'm saying is I think that the asst managers should have free reign to delete any "Girds is a babe" type posts, posts that simply repeat the subject matter of other posts that offer such annoyances that clog up the forums and bury the posts we all cherish. Sure theres a place for such stuff, but it isn't LWOS. Thjis may sound smug and superior, but I have a feeling that pretty much everyone here would have a similar opinion.

Space Monkey. I agree totally. Except for the bit about, "editorial nazism".
It's nothing to do with censorship. It's more about pest control.)

Seriously though, I'd have no hesitation in deleting any attempt to set up a 'Girds' discussion and this has already been outlined by Legend in his 'Posting Rules' post.

Freedom of speech is a great thing but it stops being freedom of speech when it impedes upon others.

BTW, I'm also pretty quick topaint over uninvited graffiti tags on the side of my house as I would clean dog piss frommy car tyre.

We can't be skeamish such things...just nip it the bud and the problem soon goes away.

Afterall, as we all know there already is a forum for such 'discussions'.

skeamish? That's a new word I just made up but if you want to replace it with squeamish, the sentence will make a little more sense.)

Willow, don't worry, I don't advocate censorship, differences of opinion make things interesting. I simply think legend and co should have free reign to purge any topics of the sort that led to us having to migrate to a "breakaway" forum in the first place.
Cheers,

As you said, most people here would agree with you.
IMO, we're nothing without differences of opinions. The world would be a dull place if we all agreed.
The problems that led to the current situation in the WORL forum are fairly easy to spot.

I think Spacemonkey is pretty close to the mark. This is a breakaway organisation that a certain group of people are now running. We've created this community to have it "our" way, so we might as well keep it "our" way.

New members should be encouraged, but people who cause considerable trouble or simply lower the standards (ie. Girdler) should be quickly dismissed.

This site can grow, but let's try and let it grow and succeed at the same time.

Cheers.

I post on both boards, and will continue to do so until a Moderator bans me from either one.
It's difficult to take the WORL boards seriously ATM, because of the majority of the threads are either useless or have very little appeal. It's like you're are afraid to post because you're not sure whether you'll be taken seriosly or not. So you think Why bother?
I've seen many members, who frequent both boards, try and post a worthwhile thread, yet it has crashed and burned at WORL.
Broncos, thread When we were kids is a prime example. It was a complete flop over at WORL, yet has rightfully proven to be a success here at LWOS with 45 or so replies.
There also isn't too many threads and posts of late at WORL that are enjoyable from a spectators point of view.
In saying all that, every time I sign on to the net, I still surfbetween here to WORL .......... just in the slim hope that there will be something that will be worthwhile.
Plus, someone's gotta keep people like Mel, Mac and Matt O in line over there ....

Morning all. Sorry I have not been around much but it was my son's first birthday yesterday and I have to organise his big party later on today. I also have been very busy at work with end of financial year reporting and tax issues which bore the shit out of me. On the weekends I still lurk and often have a look at the main page and the last thing I want to see is my name on all the recent posts as people will think i'm just a jibberer and will reply to any message just to make the site look more popular. I'm slowly learning how to maintain a good balance but it will take time.

I have to agree with Willow 100% in his views. I'm happy for this site to grow at a fast rate but my main priority is to keep the quality of the content as high as possible and if that means alienating the Girdler fan club in the process then so be it. I do not for a minute think that is an elitist attitude but simply catering to the type of poster this site attracts and I hope all would agree. I'm seriously considering appointing a couple of assistant managers so the site can be "policed" so to speak around the clock but I don't want to dilute the site with managers either as that has proven to be unpopular also and does create the too many chiefs scenario.

Legend. As you hinted at in your last post, it is imperative not to appoint too many assistant managers. I think you should have one from NZ, one from the UK and another from Australia. That covers everywhere, allows enough people to police the site and importantly is far from excessive.

Also, it might be an idea to have people apply for the positions with "Cirriculum Vitaes" of some sort on the site. That way nobody should be asking "jobs for the boys questions".

All I'm doing is looking at what went wrong with WORL and trying to make sure the same mistakes don't occur here.

Cheers.

When the time comes I will ask the other managers about who should be appointed and I do agree with your views Hass, about having too many managers. It creates an us v them attitude which is not healthy and I had a major run in with an assistant manager on WORL over censorship and nothing was ever really resolved.

Thanks for your views and I was actually looking for input into something like this.

Cheers

Could you serve us all with a list of who is currently at the helm here?

Thanks,

Dog, there are four managers of this site. Me, GavBT, Ozbash and Willow and that's it. There are currently 66 members on this site and the need for extra managers will only arise as the population expands. At the moment, everything is well in hand but when the time comes i'd like to have a democratic vote as to who the next should be. It would also create a lot of interest as well and add some variety and is something a little different and avoids a situation of nepotism and jobs for the boys.

Dog, if you go to you member tools link in the left column, or even your profile, you can access all the members and their roles.
This morning, there were about 63 members and the managers are listed at the top.

Sorry Legend, I just came in behind you. Yeah, a democratic vote would create a whole new interest... I don't think that's been tried before...at least not in any discussion group I've belonged to.
Trust you to come with such an idea.)
