I don't like what May did originally. But he got punished and served his time. I know you will have trouble understanding simple concepts, but what happened today is that May got re-punished for the original offence. From the club statement "The Board also gave consideration to previous breaches in making the decision to terminate his contract at this time." This would not be allowed in a court - it is double jeopardy. But the board needed cap space and the press must have their way.

This isn't a court and no one forced May to bring attention to it. For all the simple minds insults floating around no one seems to be able to grasp that now more than ever the game is under a microscope and he painted a target on himself.

There must be a sensible balance.

How and why players had their phones on them without moderation, whilst getting and being drunk. Is amateur hour at it's finest.

That was one heck of a big fail by the club.

Next time and hopefully it's end of 2022. Someone should be employed by the club with say a 15 minute delay on it. So that photos, posts comments go through this 3rd individual before the general public sees it.

And for goodness sake make the players complete some social media training.

Some genuine training not just band aid stuff.
I've said this before and I will say this age, the club stood by May after his conviction, he could have been dismissed years ago. Remember Liam Coleman, and Tyrone Philips, were dismissed, and they were later cleared.

I think with May he obviously pissed off the sponsors and embarrassed the club after the GF. It wasnt just that post, he was on kikau's video saying "i dont give a f**k, f**k every motherf**ker" finishing it with the N word. Assuming that was aimed at the critics of his post which include fans, sponsors and directors of the club. He's an absolute moron.

I must admit I'd forgotten that.

On reflection Troy Dodds wrote an opinion piece yesterday in the Western Weekender.

Didn't agree with everything he wrote. But thought he made a couple of good points.

Shouldn’t it work like that? There is no evidence that Teddy did anything wrong and (correct me if I am wrong) there is no suggestion that this is part of a wider pattern that might further corroborate the girl’s claims.

What would you like to see happen?
I’d like to see everyone treated equally by the media.
Responsible Journalism I guess is what I would like to see. More Andrew Webster and less David Riccio.

I think the way it played out is a worse look for the club. They are basically saying you can commit a crime stay employed BUT enough people complain about some words and you are out

Then shouldn't they act on those who liked the post including the clubs offical page?

Looks very messy and muddied the waters going forward

Only if you see it as separate which isn't the case outside a few people on this forum. It would've been totally different if Tyrone hadn't connected his court stuff.

If he is sacked originally then he can't comment on the court case later. It was always a time bomb just waiting given the thoughts on not just him but the club as a whole

They started on Cleary now.

It will be interesting to see how many see it for what it was now a favourite is copping it
Cleary has posted in support of his friend and nothing more. He hasn't said May was treated unfairly, or that he's a victim etc. He hasn't condoned what May did. So he's literally being attacked purely for being a loyal friend.

Which is not even f**king close to Mays post which was an idiotic big f**k you to a group of people. Regardless of what you think the underlying meaning of his post was.

May copped it because he was a creep a few years ago and decided to attack his haters after a grand final win which was in poor taste. No matter whether his story is true or whether the take 90% of people have is true. His post was clearly in poor taste and he was using our grand final win to say f**k you to others. Making it about him.

May deserved the backlash he copped. Cleary doesn't but he cops backlash just for existing so he knew it was coming.

Or... it is like a lot of work places where there is code of conduct where you get a written warning for each offence, and the third time is generally dismissal. So the first one could have been after the sentencing early last year, he may very well have received something in association with the Nathan Tik Tok thing, and then the Insta post was his third warning, hence fronting the board and his dismissal. On the second and third occasions, the previous breaches would have been considered.

I love cleary as a player and even think it's honourable to support your mates but that's a pr disaster. Posting support for a player sacked on the same day with a pic in uniform. He's basically give the club and sponsors the big up yours.
How is it an up yours to the club supporting his friend?

No mention at all about May being wrongly sacked, or the victim or disagreeing with the ddcision or supporting his actions.

It was literally an I have your back no matter what. Nothing more or less. I thought his choice of words was perfect to show support to his friend without actually taking his side or saying we were wrong.

The club might not like his support of a friend. But people who have never even met May have posted stuff in this very thread more in support of May and thinking he was the victim here. So for his absolute best friend to post with no swipe at the club is a relief IMO.

It is hard to know for sure because it was only a few months apart. The tide turned against us with the way Ivan came across throw in the fact we are good now makes it worse.

I am not saying May didn't deserve it But he wasn't the only one copping it. Do you think now suddenly all those Petty Tigers fans etc will change their tune? No chance.

That is why it is a messy area to start making decisions based on opinion which is the area we are now in

Bullshit. The club said to the player we'll give you a second chance (including smoothing it over with NRL & sponsors) but don't make us look like idiots.

May's post resurrected his prior indiscretions (whether media agenda, poorly worded/interpreted or whatever) to make the club look like dicks. The club decided was to be no third chance.

Not sure what more players can ask for from the club.

Players need to understand there is a corporate side to a footy club. Appearances matter to sponsors and sponsorship matters to a footy club. May is an idiot trying to act like a victim and for what he said in Kikau's video. He gave the club no choice.

I dont care about Nathans post and as far as Taylan goes you would expect a brother to upset but if he is that bothered by it I would let him go to, kids played 1 game and we dont need the internal drama's or the external pressure another disgruntled May brother could provide if he wants to continue complaining. If he is happy to let it be and move forward than great if not then get rid of him if he wants out, talking about Tyrones loyalty got him nowhere what a dumb thing to post the club stood by Tyrone when many others wouldnt have, we were the loyal ones Tyrone has been injured and suspended for a large chunk of his career, until 2020 he was never a regular FG player, he certainly wasn't in demend knocking back big offers from other clubs, he was f**king us up off the field with his bullshit actions.

Giving him that 2nd chance though brings the attention to the club to start with.

Alcohol, mate. It brings things out. This is stuff you see in every second American movie anyway. If people are going to be so precious, don't allow players to post on social media while pissed. Islander footballers do appear to identify with black US culture. Like puritanical sponsors, they are something the game now depends upon.

Re the offended sponsors. Will the club name them or better still will they name themselves? If not, why not? They must surely be proud of the values they have forced on the club and would want to make it public so we can all buy their product, or not. Surely. Otherwise, what is the point of making a stand?
