You obviously did not listen to him during his game. There was not one thing he said that was remotely insightful. More along the lines of ignorant, biased and most importantly, clearly showing his lack of knowledge about Napoli/Italian football.

Commentators like Neville who are ill informed and clearly do not do any basic research on the opposition are a blight on the game and not worth listening to.

The worst co-commentators almost always speak the most. The best ones tend to speak once every four or so minutes, and rather than a brief non-insightful remark about something that just happened, it is mostly a informative analysis of how the game was unfolding since they were able to sit back and have some perspective. That style is unimaginable in today's world of fridge buzz commentary, Neville a perfect example. I feel sorry for Tyler commentating with some of the incompetenr, embarassing idiots he's joined by. Neville is a joke.

The best pundit on telly is clearly someone who thinks Serie A is the dogs danglies and agrees with what you say.
He was on the telly thre other night but you may not of noticed as he didn't say anything for the whole 90 mins, he just sat back taking it all in. The knowledge the man has is second to none.

What did he even say that was so wrong that started this cry fest?

You watched the game right?
Neville had a shocker during the game. Even Man Utd fans thought he was pretty bad.
Basically took the credit away from Napoli and said Chelsea deserved better. No they didn't they were shit in defence and shit in attack.

So you admit to not listening to him yesterday. Why are you even bothering to argue then?

So he sided towards the UK team? On a UK program? To a UK audience?
Wow.

You don't think he may be given the brief to do this? You know the build 'em up to knock 'em down method of journalism in the UK?

But he must be rubbish as he upset some cry baby fans cause he thinks Napoli have a few great players and a load of average ones?
Which they do by the way.

Chelsea should be doing better against them, but they should be doing better in the league as well but are having a really bad run at the moment.
Hence the comments that Chelsea are better than Napoli but all is not well at the club.
Or in other words, the next days headlines.

So what did he say that had you crying over your Serie A sticker book?

Anything?

He basically showed the world just how ignorant, deluded and devoid of any resemblance of knowledge on non-English teams most UK pundits are.

Not so sure why anyone (Neville included) expected Chelsea to win. Napoli are a better team this year, both on paper and on the park. Napoli were red hot favorites with the bookies, for very good reason.

So why was Neville so surprised?

See, you think this is about Serie A but it has nothing to do with it. My point is that Gary Neville is a terrible pundit. He offers no insight to the game whatsoever.

His ill-informed comments about Napoli were far from the worst part. He spent most of the game saying how simple it would be for Chelsea to destroy Napoli despite constant plenty of evidence to the contrary.

I said before he obviously did not do any research on Napoli but you would be forgiven for thinking Neville has not watched Chelsea since Mourinho or Ancelotti were there. He has been living in a cave for at least 6 months if he honestly thought that Chelsea were going to score a three or four goals (his words) and not concede any. Anyone who has watched even one or two Chelsea games would know:

- When Terry hasn't played, they usually concede goals.
- When they don't have a decent anchor in midfield, they concede goals.
- Bosingwa in the starting 11, they concede goals.
- Trying to play the offside trap and/or high line, they concede goals.

His specific advice was "get close to Lavezzi, watch Cavani's runs". So simple isn't it? No. As the SBS team correctly noted, this is not simple at all. On the first goal Lavezzi was able to find space because the Chelsea backs left to track Cavani's run.

Further to that advise was to have "a little more quality up front". Really ground breaking stuff from Neville, isn't it? So very insightful.

So please, before you bag me for my opinion can you actually listen to it first instead of blindly defending him because he played for Man Utd?

I have already explained why he would be saying Chelsea should win.

A UK journo will never say:
Chelsea are rubbish and should lose.
Oh look they were rubbish, never mind. Onto the next story.

That would not fill up the 24 hour sports news channel they have will it.

Much better to say that Chelsea should win as when they don't you have something to talk about.

Its that simple.

To say he hasn't watched Chelsea is stupid, to say he has done no research on Napoli especially given that they have already played City this year is stupid. Both view points deserve no further discussion.

The Napoli defence was rubbish, so with a bit more quality they could of scored more goals. Its not rocket science but its not wrong either.

As for the bit about Cavani and Levezzi, well yeah it is that easy.
Napoli are not the best team in the world and he HIMSELF has played in defences wear they have had to play teams with more than two attacking threats and handled it fine.

Just because no one at SBS has the football knowledge to say how this is done, doesn't mean it can't be. In fact who are the SBS experts that think two attackers cannot be handled by a top team?

The fact that Chelsea failed to do it, again adds a another discussion to the game. Which is what Sky and the media need.

Ok, how do you rate Ray Wilkin's as a commentator then?

Plus with Chelsea's form this season I don't see how he could say Chelsea should win.
They are having a poor run as of late and couldn't beat Birmingham at home. And lost to Everton 2-0 too.
Napoli surely are better than those teams and prior to their match thrashed Fiorentina away and beat Milan convincingly at home too earlier.
They did pretty well against Man City too if I remember correctly.

Well i'm not saying again why he said Chelsea should win.

Wilkins i don't like. At least with some pundits they offer an opinion, whether you agree or not.
Wilkins is very bland and offers zero to the sports coverage.

He isn't the worst, in the UK that would probably be Jim Beglin or Craig Burley. Merson runs them close.

Phil Thompson is alright on anything but Liverpool, Dixon is good on anyone but City. Hansen is normally quite fair, as it Lawrenson. Souness is good because he doesn't care who he upsets and just says it how it is.

Martin O'Neill was very good although he only comes out for the big tournaments, Strachan is also alright.

Ned Zelic has this weird Bay-un pronunciation :? Pretty sure he would have played in the derby as well. The dope is on drugs he can't event sit still for 10 seconds, I'll see if I can YouTube that moron.

David Zdrillic makes it up as he goes along, his pronunciation depends on his mood.

It'd be like Mark Bosnich saying Liverpole.

Maybe he thinks he is being all cosmopolitan and pronouncing words in way the locals do it. To sound more knowledgable etc.

My pet hate is when people pronounce Milan like Meelan to sound more Italian. It really grinds my gears.
