Yep.

Case started Monday and we handed down the verdict this morning.

Sexual Assault case aswell.

Would have preferred something like robbery or common assault.

And having been on the jury I have come to the following conclusion.

The law is an ass.

And so is Beyond Reasonable Doubt.

Nah no hotel and you get around $110 per day + travel allowance.

Your employer is supposed to make up the difference between that and what you usually earn a day without OT.

It was actually a pretty good experience though (besides the actual case).

Being someone who has only ever been inside of a courtroom once as a witness 16 years ago (and that was only when I was giving my testimony), was good to see how it all works.

I did work experience at the court when I was a kid and it was weird for the magistrate to discuss whether someone was guilty or not with the stenographer and a Year 10 version of myself at lunch.

One thing I found strange, we didn't have parking at the court house.

If a guilty verdict is handed down, you have to walk around the streets to get to your car and hope you don't come across any of their supporters.

I suppose if anything I'd feel good about finding someone guilty of a sexual crime, anything else I wouldn't want a say tbh. (hard finding the right wording for that lol)

That's what was so hard about today.

10 of us believed he actually did it, but unfortunately with having to find it beyond a reasonable doubt we couldn't do it.

The judge also told us that with cases where it is word for word, unless you believe the complainant is 100% credible, you can't find the accused guilty.

The amount of holes in her account of things compared to the neighbours and cops and also changing her story in regards to things that happened beforehand made it extremely difficult to see her as credible.

As I said, was a good experience, just wish it would have been a different crime

I want to do jury duty so badly. I've never been. Sounds fascinating.
