I'm looking forward to cracking a wine and watching the Eels tomorrow though. I did manage to catch the Tahs super rugby win (which was awesome in a pub on Clarke Quay) and a couple of Eels games over there, but it's gonna be nice to chill out on the couch and watch it

My condolences. I recommend a bottle of wine, followed by a bottle of whisky to make up for the lost time.

A conversation piece.

When is killing somebody okay? What situations would you find it acceptable to kill another human being?

Noone is pure enough to be the judge and executioner.

In sayin that, there's a lot of people who deserve it.

It's acceptable to kill in defence of yourself or another person. That's about it imo. In "theory" I could accept the death penalty as a way of protecting society but in practice a lot of innocent people seem to get executed in the states so life in prison works better.

If someone hurt my family I'd probably want them dead but I also don't think it would be right of me to act on it.

when that person is placing either my life, or the life of a friend or family member in immediate danger and it's a case of kill or be killed..

Pretty much what they said ^^

Although I suppose that extends to war (which is also kill or be killed but beyond just protecting the lives of those close to you). I'm against war on the whole, but sometimes it's necessary and I would never think less of a soldier for killing another soldier during conflict for eg.

I'd kill anybody immediately threatening my safety/life. I'd extend that to killing anybody who was threatening my family or close friends, assuming there was no other way to diffuse the situation.

All the above, though I'd say the most justified killing is assisted suicide. If a family member no longer wants to suffer, why not?

Oddly enough, I think I'd have a very difficult time killing a family member, even if I knew they needed it.

I've no moral objection to it, I just don't know if I'd be able to bring myself to end the life of somebody I loved.

slight twist to the above conversation...

lets say you had the opportunity to kill someone and suffer no consequence for doing it..

no punishment.. no retribution.. no legal ramifications.. nothing at all..

you are just provided the opportunity to kill someone..

could / would you do it?

My Mum has already nominated me to pull the plug on her. She believes my Dad + brother wouldn't do it, even if there was no chance of her coming back 100%

This probably makes me sound like a sociopath, but almost definitely. I wouldn't just kill somebody at random or somebody who had offered me mild offense, but there are terrible people out there who are never going to get their day in court - let alone the shortened lifespan their actions warrant.

I can't decide if that's an indication in her trust in you, or her belief that you have it in you to be a cold blooded killer.
