I've been feeling kind of... unreal lately; like I'm not completely here. Nothing really giving me any joy or cause for excitement. Not video games or TV shows or writing. I just kind of wake up, teach, stay awake for an amount of time, and then go to sleep again.

I know what it is, of course, but I prefer my depression when it feels like it has a justification to bring it on. When it just settles over me like frost at dawn, it's so much harder to shake.

Six weeks.

The hopelessness is the worst of it by a long shot. Sounds about the time for a drink to be honest.

While that often offers a temporary rush of happiness that makes me think life is awesome, the crash after I stop drinking (and the day of self loathing that follows) isn't as tempting :(

Organised a World Cup pub crawl this weekend with 60 people going and I'm all 'meh'.

Not even an Origin series win can break the funk?

It did temporarily. Lots of things do it temporarily. Just seems my default setting is indifference.

I started some new pain killing medication on Saturday.....just one of it's side effects was to make me feel like that. The anxiety attacks at night were unbelievable. I came off it on the Wednesday. Targin is it's name.

Not good to hear, Mis. Hope you're okay. Same for you, Skinner.

Exams finally finished. All done. Now I enjoy two full months off until I even think about studying again, and just a few weeks until I jump on a plane to move to US for a year.

Beer later, tea at present.

Probably go to Edinburgh Castle hotel before concert tonight, had $5 white rabbit schooners last time i was there. Something like that would be nice

I've had a mixed day at work, oddly.

After being furious enough to resign early over the school's refusal to even try and help me re-arrange my Monday schedule so I can participate fully in my brother's farewell hurrah in town, I was doubly furious when I tried to top up my electricity.

See, we buy electricity like phone credit here, and you can't buy it over the weekend. I don't have enough to last the weekend, and don't fancy being in an unairconditioned, boring box for 48 hours.

Of course, China being China, there are layers of bureaucracy to buy electricity. See one guy who takes your money and gives you a receipt, and then see a woman who puts the electricity onto your card so you can swipe it.

Of course, 75% of the time, one of these components is missing. You can make do without one (the first guy), but you can't make do without the woman. And you certainly can't make do without either.

I'm in class all day, so rush down in my 5 minute break to try my luck. No joy. Ask the foreigner liaison and she's typically useless. The last few days boil up, I tell her she's useless at a job a child can do, and slam the door in her face as she tries to follow me.

I then walk down the hall and my boss tells me she's managed to get me out of my 8am on Monday (moving it to 1.30pm).

So, good news is I can celebrate with my brother. Bad news is, I have no f**king electricity.

hard to catch though...

and mis - how well do you know your neighbour? Can you run an extension cord next door for the weekend?

No neighbours on either side of me, unfortunately. This place is a f**king ghost town.

When I got here, every apartment up top (16) plus the five downstairs were full of teachers. Now there's four of us upstairs rattling around like the last few matches in a matchbox.

Gonna try my luck again in between my next two classes.
