Alba's status on Facebook got me thinking, so I thought I'd get a conversation going over here:
If a dog you own attacks somebody who enters your property, should they still be put down? What if the person entering your property is a child who may not know better?
For f**k sake I just wrote a reply to this and lost it.
Long story short:
- What kind of family pet/companion would viciously attack someone in their yard. Mine would be more likely to wag it's tail and lick the intruder's face.
- If people want their dogs to be guard dogs rather than the above than they should train them as such and such training you would think would include not trying to eat children
- I'm not sure what putting down the dog achieves on the other hand, where were the lousy parents in this, can we put them (or whoever was responsible for the child at the time) down too for being careless dickheads? What right does someone else have for being in this person's yard?
Dogs should not be attacking kids, if it were my kid the dog would be 6 feet under.
One would hope you wouldn't be so reckless as to allow your kids in that situation in the first place, though.
I'd be pissed off too but I wouldn't try and blame my or someone else's pathetic supervision entirely on the dog. It's akin to the dog ate my homework.
