people who say they 'have the flu' or 'have had the flu and i'm still on the piss'. it's usually men, or at least the ones i know, because at the first sign of a cold they are OH IM GETTING THE FLU WAH WAH.

actual flu (aka influenza) is not a head cold that you can fight through for f**ks sake. IT DRIVES ME SO INSANE.

also people who say they go to uni when they go to TAFE. it isn't uni, k thanks.

What ya mean whats wrong with tafe students? I was a tafe student lat yr, studying Multimedia. It was a great course mind you. I'm just curious on your perspective NT?

Before someone mentioned Tafe students that say they're at Uni. Never heard of it myself, when I said "what's wrong with them" I meant "why are they considered so much lower" or something like that. I was a Tafe student last and this year.

hahah adam sorry...you just reminded me of people who do it. i don't specifically want to hurt you or anything.

*hides knives*

as for TAFE, i had this friend who used to always say things like OH I'M A UNI STUDENT, JUST LIKE YOU.

and it would drive me mental because she did no work at school, whereas i did and got a high HECS score specifically so i could go to a good university.

there is nothing wrong with TAFE, but the standards of education aren't comparable. also, i got the sense she was somehow ashamed of going to TAFE, why did she always lie and tell people she was 'at uni'?? there's nothing wrong with saying 'i go to TAFE'.

i probably sound like an intellectual snob now but whatever.

Not much difference to TAFE and Uni to me. I have done both, accounting has little difference, could be different in other courses though. Uni just covers more than the tafe course in terms of subjects. Tbh anyone who thinks they are better becuase they went to uni over Tafe is a tool imo. Not saying you are either Kiki.

Yeah fair enough on the matter. Up here, Uni students always go on about how much they're better than TAFE students it really pissed me off.

Business pretty much is an accounting degree. As for IT courses at TAFE they seem to get the students pretty skilled up for jobs. Got a few mates who did IT at TAFE and have always done well work wise.

In my profession, the tradesmen go to TAFE, the engineers go to Uni

TAFE is a technical school, with courses designed specifically for jobs, where as University is traditionally a place to study subjects for the sake of studying them as opposed to getting job qualifications. A university's main focus is research, not Job training, whereas TAFE is a pure job training centre. That's why you wouldn't get things like Social Sciences (at least in depth) at TAFE, but you get things like Accounting.

Of course now days University does offer courses that relate to specific careers (Accounting, Law for example), and this sort of blurs the distinction a bit. I think most people see University as a job training centre because most people want to get jobs, which is fair enough, but it can be a little innaccurate. Yes universities do train people for jobs, but that's one slice of a much bigger pie.

All my former collegues were generally engineers. That is definately one area where TAFE does not come close. Engineering would be a tough degree.
