Update on Morrison and Monaghan

I posted this in another thread but its more relevant here.

I don't know about Monaghan - I think he will move to Sydney.

IMO he has been calming the fans in Canberra by telling them he has been there for ever why would he move. If he was such a "Canberra boy" and he had $250k a year on the table already he would have signed. He's after the exposure and rep jumpers that aren't going to Canberra anymore.

North Queensland lock Glenn Morrison yesterday told the club he was definitely leaving at the end of the season, admitting he believed playing so far from Sydney was hurting his representative prospects.

The main thing hurting his representative prospects is that he is an average player. No team he has played for has done any good

I hope Parramatta don't buy him

I don't think he was ever at a rep level playing for Balmain or Norths. But playing for the Cowboys, I'd have to say he rips it up and the only reason why he hasn't been picked for NSW is because of the fact he plays for North QLD and their games arn't televised.

And his home isn't Balmain...he's a central coast boy.

Latest rumour doing the rounds at "the wall" is that the Roosters are chasing Morrison as well. Don't think there's any thruth to it but if that was the case every other club could forget about chasing him because he'd be gauranteed a NSW jersey under Stuart/Gould.

Don't agree Colonel. I still think Monaghan will stay in Canberra, he's just testing his value. This from the Canberra Times today:

Parramatta and Wests Tigers were the other two clubs chasing Monaghan. However, the real race is between Canberra, the Roosters and Manly.

Monaghan described the Raiders' offer as "very good" and said he was aiming to make up his mind early next week. When asked if it was good enough to keep him in Canberra, Monaghan replied, "I think it is".

I think the Roosters probably already sense that Monaghan will stay in Canberra, hence the interest in Amos Roberts now.

From my Optusnet homepage today:

De Vere set for England move
11:39 AM July 2

Brisbane Broncos centre Mick De Vere could leave the club at the end of the National Rugby League (NRL) season to play in England.

It is believed De Vere has started talking with English clubs and wants to end his career there.

The Broncos have an ideal replacement for De Vere in Justin Hodges if, as expected, he joins the club from the Roosters next year.

And North Queensland forward Glenn Morrison will leave the Cowboys at the end of the year to play with another NRL club or in England after telling the Cowboys he would not take a pay cut to stay in Townsville.

Morrison is negotiating with Parramatta and Wests Tigers and it is believed two English Super League clubs are also interested in signing him.

Morrison, who says he is leaning towards Parramatta, is currently injured with two fractured vertebrae in his back and he may have played his last game for the Cowboys.

"It's up to whether the club would want to put you back in again, seeing as though you're leaving, or just leave the players in there that have been doing a good job, obviously, to get them into the semi-finals," he said.

I really do hope we get him. He is one of the most enthusiastic players you would ever see and surely that can only help all the young guys most people here want to see in 1st grade next year.

That would give alot of eels fans who are fans of his big hope!!!

you have to remeber with signing would arguably make us one of the most potent forward packs in the camp at full strength, and also has contacts there with former team mates Muspratt and Muckett.

I have a good feeling we will get Morrison.
My Money is on that Joel Monaghan will resign with Canberra and good on him as long as the scum Roosters dont get him.

But you could say he would go back to the tigers since he is a tigers junior, it'll come down to the cash

Mr Parra Eels, Morrison actually left the Tigers on pretty bad terms all those years ago. However, his former coach at Nth Qld was of course Tim Sheens and that might be a factor in him wanting to go to the Tig's as well as former team mate Scott Prince. I'm confident if it comes down to a choice between us and them he'll chose us for the sole reason of being able to play along side the great Nathan Hindmarsh. Hindy is a legend :D

The major reason he isn't playing rep footy is that Fitzgibbon, Hindmarsh, Andrew Ryan, Ben Kennedy and Willie Masson are all much better players

My belief is that Morrison is a better Lock.

Fitzgibbon, Hindy are both second rowers. (And granted probably better)
Andrew Ryan is a perfect example of being able to shine because of the quality players around him Guarenteed if he played for Nth QLD or NZ he wouldn't get a look in. Mason in comparison to Morrison isn't as good (IMO) and Kennedy only plays about 10 games Max. Every year.

Given all that, i'm sure Morrison should have been given a start somewhre. I hope he comes to Parra next year, I think he'd be awesome.

He is a CC junior not a Balmain Junior!

He left because of the money and because his manager at the time dragged him over to Norths as well he did a stupid thing because he left us right out in the cold and even signed a letter of intent to stay with the club and also waited until he walked into the room to sign his new contract with Balmain before he had informed anyone at the club he would be leaving.

In saying that it appears alot of water has passed under the bridge and he has been welcommed back he always said he would like to repay the fans of the Tigers so who knows maybe he might just do that

Sheens and Prince are part of his playing combo but so are Senter and Buckets as well so it wouldn't be as bad as starting at a new club for him so who knows

LOL yeah well time will tell and may the best team win ;-)

On a serious note I think he will go to the UK to be honest I know he only wanted a 1yr deal just in case the CC side started up and well no side offered him a 1yr deal in the NRL and well the Tigers and Eels have been narrowed down as his chioces - I do know he has told the Tigers he will be meeting them either on the weekend or by tuesday next week again (his 2nd meeting) so who knows

We think we have a chance of gaining his services but the club thinks if Glenn agrees to a 2yr deal he will be going to the UK because they have offered him over double a year and not to mention a house and expenses paid for to get all his stuff over there
