this lebanese side has great desire, they look ed down & out if the first half.
Wales the disaponitment of the wc qualfiying really who taught the backs how to tackle f**k me, the forwards impressive particularly roberts has a good off load.
Nothing against lebanon but this is a big loss for wales, & int rugby league development.
Wow lebanon had 3 locals in there side wales had about 11 or 12 & have superleague hopes.
don't know really who to support a samoan team that will boast about a dozen pro players with a couple of token local players or a lebanese team full of aussies.
Would have to say lebanon would be better for event & exposure in middle east while samoa in my opnion would be one to many pacific teams.

right...

i watched most of the 1st half & the last 10 mins of the USA v samoa game and i've gotta say i was impressed by the americans, yeah they lost but they never looked outclassed...they are'nt that far away are they from being able to mix it with the other "2nd tier nations". but they need to be included on the international stage for them to develop into the world power they could be...as i've said before i'd put the usa in the pacific cup with the other pacific island nations and the chance to play in the southern hemisphere 4 nations...

also a USA v IRELAND test series has massive money making potential imo...

and somebody, please give david nui some money.

i'm just about to watch wales v lebanon on replay....i'll give my opinion later

Can someone post the team lists from these 2 games please? I have only seen Lebanon and Samoa's posted on the boards so far.

Cheers

I can't believe Wales wont be competing at the World Cup. I have felt so shattered all day. Guess its time to change my sig and find a team to support, England, Ireland or Scotland

This just goes to prove how far from the 1995 and 2000 WC teams the current Welsh side is. Eight years is a long time in RL. The Welsh obviously aren't good enough to be at the WC. They need to go back and regroup and on the back of a possible SL place they need to make sure they qualify next time around.

Have to say they have got through in the past with unreal union ring ins this time a no go & have paid the penalty just have to say again who teaches the backs how to tackle f**king woeful.
The double header was a huge fizzer the event should have been staged in the USA.

Once again it seems only the diehard internationalists knew these games were on. My brother is a big Hull F.C. fan but until I told him about the qualifiers he was none the wiser. With hindsight maybe they could have played them in the U.S. The attendances can't have been any worse.

They should have been in Australia. With the Lebanese and Samoan supporters on top of the keen RL fans a double header like that should have attracted at least 3,000. The Pacific qualifiers last year got crowds of about 2,000 and they were very low key and obviously Lebanon weren't involved. Plus it would have made sense with Lebanon and Samoa being basically southern hemisphere based sides and the USA being regular visitors to Australia. In fact there is a small but keen group of Aussies who go to all the Tomahawks games here. And considering the WC is here it does seem to make some sense to have the repechage here I reckon.

I was talking to a former Cessnock player tonight who knows Chris Saab of the Lebanon team well, and he had no idea he was even lebanese, let alone know he was playing for Lebanon last night - and the guy i was talking to played 3 seasons in France and two in England, so he is a bit of an international fan.

It's nice to say that they should have been held here there or everywhere, but who would pay for it all? They were held in England for sensible reasons. For a start two of the teams would definitely be in the country because of two euro teams taking part. Secondly only one pacific team was going to be there and no-ne could have predicted Lebanon would be there, most of us expected scotland and ireland to be taking part. So making the euro teams finish their own qualifying programme and then fly all the way to Aus is just silly.

Financialy and logisticaly it made sense to have it in england. A bit of advertising might have helped mind, but there really is no excuse for the poor attendance. 10 for two games? The people of Widnes and Warrington should have been racing there.

They are absolutely woeful. It beats the hell out of me how people justify splitting up GB and making Wales a test nation based on that rabble.

if wales played as a genuine test team then they will get better.......between 2001 -2007 wales (and ireland & scotland) have played 2nd fiddle to GREAT BRITAIN...

THATS ALL GOING TO CHANGE NOW THAT GB ARE GOING....

Chris is as lebanese as they come. He has always made himself available when the team was playing. If this friend of yours was a mate of Chris, he would of know he was over there playing

well, my friends nickname is 'flash' - and that is not because he is fast on the uptake - and he did keep calling him 'charlie' saab when i was talking about him - but he did say he has talked to him several times at functions and that he wears his old number for Cessnock.

lol yeah right

Wales were good on the back of RU converts. When the RU converts dried up, so have Welsh RL fortunes.

Perhaps you should rephrase that to "...so have short term Welsh national team fortunes" as the fortunes of the game at large in Wales certainly do not begin and end with the national team.
