USA "what"

ON THE FIRST FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES, THERE WERE 13 STARS, AND 13 STRIPES. So Stars and Stripes itself is about as American as you can get. And then the original flag has 13 of each. An interesting coincidence within history..........

I love that tie in, and it certainly gives rise to any number of possibilities with respect to marketing and logos and uniforms. I think Stars and Stripes is a no-brainer and a nickname that other sports organizations will be saying, "why didn't we think of that".

Why have a nickname? You want main stream USA press to cover international matches. They're just gonna call it Team USA.
Plus, calling it Team USA makes people aware it's the national team. If you call it USA Pioneers, there is some ambiguity.

It's a rugby league thing. Every national team that I can think of does, so why wouldn't the Americans. Other sports, not so much. The Big Three sports in North America that play on the world stage (baseball, basketball and hockey) don't use nicknames for national teams. At least not that I'm aware, or maybe I've forgotten them because they are seldom used.

Hawks is good, but loses some of the momentum RLWC 13 built up under the tomahawks name.

whats wrong with continuing that?

most australian sports do, wallabies, opals, roos, socceroos, boomers, kookaburras etc. etc.

I just found it odd to ask input but limit that input to voting on 3 pre chosen names, Stars and Stripes, Mustangs or Generals.

Its like Henry Ford said you can have any colour you want provided its black.

It gives the odour that they have already picked a name which is a bad smell even if they havent.

going to geek it up with history of the early US....

Militia - cool name that goes back to our roots of fighting the English

Light Horse - old name for cavalry units

Minutemen - ready in a minute to answer the call of the country

If you are looking for indigenous animals...Condors, Badgers, Black or Brown Bears, or my animal favorite...Alligator

I like the stars and stripes, but it just doesnt roll off the tongue right for a sports team. The 'Stars and Bars' sound better and its pretty much interchangeable

Not overly I pressed with their three choices. I voted for Generals based on their military history.

What about the USA Independents

The choices are terrible. Why wouldn't nui allow the national team continue tith the tomahawks?
