What a disgrace.

Mr Gallop seems quite happy to lie to rugby league fans to appease Channel 9 in Melbourne.

I am so glad CH9 dont think the Sharks = ratings so every week we are on Fox and therefore shown live, the coverage is a bloody disgrace on CH9 down here

Anybody who thinks Ch9 and Packer are any better then News Ltd are kidding themselves. Both companies are out to get the best deal for themselves and screw the game stuck in the middle. Gallop is so weak and to come out with a threat and then when the evidence is clearly there not back it up is a disgrace. We should get the Ch9 shwoing times for the last 8 weeks and all email him with them asking why they are being allowed to break the contract agreement.

and 9 have no intention of showing it before 12am this week as per the contract

El-D, they NEVER show the games before midnight on FN.

Quidgybo says "If it *persistently* fails to meet its obligations as opposed to just failing on the odd weekend here and there" - Well I would ask, how many times a year do they have to show the first FNF game after midnight to be considered to be "persistently failing to meet their obligation" ?

Or do the two Melbourne Storm games that have been shown live count?

Gallop gets hammered about "use it or lose" on a talkback show, comes up with a fluff answer and basically doesn't have to answer the question again.

We should email into talkin sport about this issue. Hughes will at least bring it up unlike other stations.

He's weak as piss.

Aside from his actions, looking at his personality and approach is a real concern for someone in charge of Rugby League.

At WIN Stadium this year, after a match he came waltzing across the field from the northern stand towards where I was in the Western concourse. Standing up I couldn't help myself, called out "Hey David..." (he looked straight at me, then quickly looked away. I followed "with Bring back the Steelers!" just for fun. But his body language, weak, insipid, uncomfortable. Imagine if I actually abused him!

Not the type of strong personality rugby league needs at the top.

When you compare him to what the RFL CEO is doing in the UK to develop the game over there he looks very second rate. In fact when you comapre him to most sports CEO's in Oz he doesn't look any better!

Down where?

Well you'd guess by that he lives in one of the Southern States.

What's really frustating is last night i was flicking through the fox channels, and noticed Main Event had the AFL game on at a half decent time in the northern states.

It's not an ideal solution given f-tels minimal take up rate BUT couldn't the NRL at least write a clause into the next contract stating that if c9 wont show it before say 11 pm, then foxtel can carry it on one of their channels?

Not as perfect as FTA coverage I know, but at least it would get the games on in a reasonable hour in some fashion. It'd be a start at least.

i know this but Gallop denied it on radio when he said 9 were honouring their commitment

here's what that commitment is from two seperate articles

http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/news/fox-sports-gives-afl-a-mark/2007/05/18/1178995418201.html

However, Nine's telecast of last night's St George Illawarra versus Titans match was due to begin at 1.10am, following the movie Election, a flick about a girl bribing classmates with muffins to be elected school captain. The after-midnight start is in breach of the existing NRL contract, which says Nine must televise games in Melbourne before midnight.

Storm delayed reaction
Monday, April 14, 2008
Source: mX (Melbourne)

Melbourne Storm has urged the NRL to take Channel 9 to task, alleging the rugby league broadcaster has breached its agreement twice by failing to show Storm games in Melbourne before midnight.

Last Friday week's clash with the Brisbane Broncos didn't air until 12.15am and last Friday's night's grand final re-match against Manly was scheduled to be aired at 12.10am on Melbourne screens.

An NRL spokesman confirmed to mX that although there were provisions for the game to be aired after 12pm if shows ran late. Nine is obliged to schedule matches before midnight.

Waldron said it was a clear breach of the agreement and if the league cared about spreading the NRL gospel in Melbourne, it was bound to hold Channel 9 accountable.

"I've spoken to the NRL and they are well and truly aware of this situation and as the people responsible for looking after the future of the game I would hope they did act," Waldron told mX.

"I'm disappointed, really disappointed, after all the inroads we have made for the game down here that we can't get appropriate coverage.

"But it's not for us to do anything, it is the NRL's deal so our hands are tied. But they really should do everything in their power to make sure the deal is upheld."

Waldron said he had made NRL boss David Gallop aware of his concerns as early as last year.

Nine was investigating the situation last Friday and would not comment on whether the broadcast agreement had been breached.
so last night was 4am

look ahead to next week and here's the Melbourne guide

That's been happening for years mate. Wimbeldon, The French Open & Ashes Tours have always meant RL coverage got pushed until early morning. Disgusting, but what can you do they won't listen and the NRL has no balls to stand up to the broadcaster?
