My letdowns

1. Nene McDonald, every game drops at least 1 ball. Can't have him if you want to win a comp
2. Jason Nightingale to slow on defence reads and is too short for modern day wingers. Can't have him if you want to win the Comp.
3.Cameron Mcinnes only passed and tackles BUT no, none, zero dummy half running. Can't have him if you want to win the Comp.

We need another world class Center and Two world class wingers to win a comp.

Does Graham as a 31 year old forward really have 3 years of quality football left? I have big doubts on this signing. Past his best.

Hunt is only postive signing.

Hunt is only postI've signing.
We just signed the slowest prop in the game.
He will make a 150 meters every game off 25 x 6m runs.
They will be considered good stats and will keep yet another young up and comer from being prepared properly for NRL duties.
Honestly our recruitment have NFI nor IMO do the people that support this type of signing.
i'll call it now it is a dud deal.

Sign Moylan... Hunt to hooker or Widdop to Melbourne

Originally we were told we would retain the Red V jersey and our history, and our kindred spirits in the Illlawarra were keen to embrace this heritage.

But like most marriages there will be disagreements and we're fated to deal with that. Politics intervened. IMO, the Illawarra connection has created an acceptance of mediocrity, or as a friend recently said to me, "an aspiration to mediocrity"... which of course is even worse than I imagined years ago.

Willow, at the end of the day those of us who were St George supporters have only the St George administrators to blame for the failure to set and maintain standards and essential terms of the JV.
We have seen better days and our perspective is somewhat different from our JV partners.

Their primary goal is to see NRL footy played at the Gong. Ours is to win premierships.

2 very different goals.

That's why I'm very happy Souths let him go. Credit where it's due though and he is a good tackler for sure but he doesn't show enough urgency with his passes and he doesn't run. If you guys had Lichaa on your side you guys win imho.

Oh hey R20.

f**k off. Your team is even worse than ours and I wouldn't feed your hookers.

I'm reluctant to say Hunt is a positive signing. He plays well in a well coach team. Can't see Mcgregor getting the best out of him.

Culture is everything and we just have none of it anymore
How do you build and foster a culture when your coach is getting done DUI and your "marquee" player is missing the team bus and gets so pissed post game he can't pack his own bag and misses his flight home.
Great example being set for the up and coming juniors. Buck stops with Doust for accepting this shit. Go spend a week with the All Blacks Doust you flop, and learn how to build a successful culture

I've seen McInnes run and kick in general play in the past. I'm sure his latest style of just passing and tackling is under instructions from the coah. Get rid of our coaching staff and put Robson on the bench in the Hooker rotation; problem solved.

Recruitment
Retention
Coaching
Development
Attack patterns
Defence structures
Sourcing TPAs
Vision

Recruitment - We have signed Ben Hunt and James Graham for next year, both of whom will be good signings - Hunt will replace McCrone or Mann in the halves, something we desperately need, and Graham can give the experience to the younger blokes coming through.
Retention - Re-signed a lot of the core of the team on long term deals, only really losing Packer (replaced), Dugan (Mann replacement), and Milne (young guy, was surplus to requirements with Lafai, Mann and Aitken all around the team).
Coaching - McGregor is dross, that's reasonable to say, and coaching needs to improve.
Development - We have had Matt Dufty, Blake Lawrie, Heme Sele and Taane Milne all come up this year, with players like Jack de Belin embedded in the side. Development has not been a problem at the moment, and we clearly are focused on giving young lads chances.
Attack patterns - The team has been lethal all year, Widdop's kicks are dangerous and when we don't have McCrone leading the attack we have looked the package. The forwards were rampant, Vaughn bagged eight in the season, Nightingale got double digits. This isn't a problem.
Defence structures - Defensive structures of course are fragile, we concede a lot of points, but you can point to McDonald and Lafai on the edges failing to lock down that. It's not structures, it's single player mistakes a lot of the time.
Sourcing TPAs - The WIN deal is coming, and TPAs are already in Illawarra
Vision - This one I can't argue with, because if we keep McGregor then the board is showing that they are happy to stick with a coach that chokes in the big moments and struggles to get the most out of a strong squad. Not much I can say here, we need more in this department.

So only two of those complaints are really founded, and guess what? They both come down to Paul McGregor, the blight on the club. If he stays, problems continue. Maybe with a new head coach, the talent of the young guys and the experience of the older heads come through. The future is bright, if Mary isn't in it!

I am very confident in the year ahead, I am feeling Mary will get the boy's to the GF next year on the back of some great signings

Did Saints sign a pommie coach as his assistant for next season? If so anyone know much about this guy and his history?

Young and Hornby should go the the ESL to prove they can coach. If they stay in this coaching environment they will get nowhere. If they want to become NRL coaches they need some proper experience and the ESL will be a good indicator from the Dragons perspective to see if they have what it takes. Having them alongside Mary who has not achieved anything does not look good on their behalf at all and the longer they stay the less anyone bar Saints will show any interest.

The fact Bennett took Demitriou ahead of these 2 which Bennett was a huge fan of shows even he does not want to take the punt on them.

Seriously? Self deprecation is a poor counter argument. And claims of ignorance is a worse counter argument.

I'm happy to cut to the chase...

If you support St George Illawarra then by definition that support comes from your supporter base. I support St George. You support Illawarra. If you are part of the joint venture, then you support both.

I wish Illawarra the best. As Graeme Langlands - one of Wollongong's favourite sons - once said, "the Illawarra is a great backyard for St George."
What Illawarra connection are you talking about I am curious to know as the Illawarra mafai crap has been dished up numerous times and imo is a total load of bullshit.

If the Dragons are supposed to be the stronger identity within the merger how on earth did they allow this so called Illawarra connection to gain so much power and aspire to mediocrity.

That in itself is a total insult to many who have worked their arses off to keep league alive across the South coast region for years.

Peter Doust is nothing but a cowardly man who hasn't got the guts to actually do his job and make it look like he gives a shit what happens to the Dragons.
