It could be a Tony Puletua situation all over again for New Zealand Rugby League.

Puletua was ruled out of the Kiwis tests in the UK with his club Penrith insisting he have surgery after last weekend's test against the Kangaroos in New Zealand.

Now Bradford have released winger Lesley Vainikolo for this weekend's test against the Aussies, but say he then must have knee surgery.

It will prevent him from playing against Great Britain, who are coached by Brian Noble, the Bradford coach.

NZRL boss Selwyn Pearson hopes there is no conspiracy.

Big loss for the Kiwis.

Not with Lolesi coming onto the wing. Lolesi is a different type of player but just as good if not better imo

The RLIF needs a good, stern kick up the backside for allowing clubs to try and ruin the international game - clubs like Penrith and Bradford with their selfish club first, other representative teams aside from their own later should be fined.

The NZRL need to expect this when they are not paying match payments to players.

Like I said last week, this isnt out of the ordinaryl. Its bussiness as usual. If the NZRL are so upset over it, they will centraly contract their top players instead of freeloading on the back for NRL and SL clubs.

Anyway, Vainikolo is no loss.

Even without Vainikolo, Utai, Galuvao, Puletua and Motu Tony, the Kiwi side still
looks stronger now on paper than it did in the last game.

They have got just as much chance of beating the Aussies and England, as the
Aussies have of beating them.

I know they don't have as large a talent pool as the Aussies to pick from, but they
seem to have plenty of great players to choose from at the moment.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with match payments.

Even if Australia weren't paying match payments to their players, the clubs can't pull their players out. Only the ARL team doctor can. The equivalent in NZ, and then some including a world renowned expert declared Puletua fine. It had nothing to do with match payments.

I would assume the English have the same thing, only the England team doctor can pull a player out for medical reasons. So here we have Australian players CAN'T be pulled out by a club, presumably the Pom players CAN'T either, but it all comes down to no match payments as to why the Kiwis can't? Illogical and irrational. GB and Australia own the RLIF pretty much, they set rules to suit themselves.

Vainakolo is a loss, he was fairly good in the last test and was one of the English players of the year.

Idiot

The NZRL don’t have as much money as the ARL. They don’t have a cash cow like the State Of Origin to make money off. And to add to that, the ARL don’t have to pay for the running of there domestic competition as the NRL do all that.

If you honestly believe that international players should receive match payments then your one of the shallowest human being's ive ever come across.

You play for your country first and then if you’re given something in the way of money as a reward then you consider yourself lucky. You play for your country; in this case you play for the Millions of people that have paid some of there hard earn money to watch you at the ground, watch at home on pay TV and even in the pubs across New Zealand. You represent your family and everyone that shudders when they see you run out in the black jumper and perform the Haka. Most of all you represent your self. You should be prepared to crawl over broken glass to represent your country and your people.

The NZRL is finding that they cant use4 players as slaves.

Start paying them a fair match payment...or centrally contract them, and the problem will not be as bad.

That all well and good in the land of Oz with flowers and pixies and rivers of chocolate. The Tin Man, the Umpa Lumpa's and the scarecrow....

But in real life.....

These guys are professional athletes. Their trade is Rugby League.

EVERY major professional sport pays its representative players. The NZRL just seems to think players like Vainikolo, Puletua and Utai will risk their livleyhood to play for free.

Sorry but a dirty black jersey with a white V doesnt pay the bills. Money talks, and when one side is paying you $200,000, and the other is giving you a pat on the back, guess which side will hold the most weight when it tells you what to do!

Infact....dont answer that.....Tony, Joe, Matt and Lesley have already shown who matters the most.

Motu Tony? That's because it's the arrival of a new baby, not to do with the Kiwis not paying him etc.

Joe, Matt and Lesley? They didn't make that choice. They said they wanted to play for the Kiwis, but their clubs refused. The players WANT to play for the Kiwis, and they don't have any problems. The only problem seems to be you complaining about this the whole time, thinking that the players actually refused to play, which is wrong.

Ah...Tony....PULETUA!

If these players REALLY wanted to play for NZ, they'd tell their clubs where to go and they'd play.

But they dont do they? They are smarter then you these players. They know who helps them pay the bills. They know who puts money in their pockets. The clubs do.

Puletua expressed that he wanted to play for the Kiwis. But, since the clubs are their employers, they cannot overrule them.

You seem to think those Kiwis can overrule what the club says, which is entirely wrong.

If Puletua wanted to play for NZ no one could stop him.

But he is smart, he knows who pays his wages and thats why he is having surgery instead of being a slave to the NZRL.
