Victory over Sharks a must: Creagh

St George Illawarra are adopting a finals mentality for Sunday’s crunch clash with Cronulla at WIN Stadium.
They may be only two points outside the top eight, but representative second-rower Ben Creagh concedes they can all but forget about September if they can’t beat a play-offs contender like the Sharks.

Full coverage of the Dragons

The Dragons will have to win at least five - probably six - of their final eight games, given their points differential of minus 44.
Having lost six of their past eight, the premiers from just two years ago will be left to contemplate mathematical possibilities if they suffer another defeat.
Creagh admitted Sunday’s tussle will be a final in July.
‘‘It is a must win, yep, definitely,’’ Creagh said.
‘‘All the games now, we’re in a spot where we’ve got to keep winning.
‘‘We can’t afford to string losses together, we need to start playing some consistent footy before we head into the finals, if we want to play finals.
‘‘We want to be there in September at the end of the season.
‘‘It starts now.’’
The Sharks are usually painted as the underdog little brother against the powerhouse Red V, but this year, Cronulla are on track for a top-four finish.
However, the Dragons’ chances of victory have been boosted by injuries to Cronulla captain Paul Gallen and 2010 premiership player Jeremy Smith, now part of the Sharks’ rise.
‘‘If either one is out it’s a big loss for their side,’’ Creagh said.
‘‘But there’s some quality from the players who have played extremely well.’’
It won’t take long on Sunday to determine if St George Illawarra are up for the fight to save their season.
Following a string of disappointing starts to games, most notably trailing 18-0 in 17 minutes against Canterbury in Wollongong last month, Creagh predicted the Dragons would burst out of the blocks on Sunday. ‘‘We know ourselves we’re not playing our best footy and just the start to our games at the moment,’’ he said.

they all need to shut the f**k up and perform on the field
agree
there has been more players speaking to the media in half a season then perhaps the entire three years under bennett.
previously it was mainly the captain and a few senior players, now everyone seems to be having a say...

Absolutely wrong. It's the same as it has always been. The players speak to the media on a rotating roster, usually 2 or 3 a week and it has been like this for years.

The tipsters in the Herald this morning all went for the Dragons to win. That's eight out of eight.

Kiss of death? Hope not.

Why do they even write these articles!
The story is just stating the obvious.
Win games...........make the finals.........Lose games.........miss the finals.
Fair dinkum it must be a slow news week.

The characters are slowly disappearing in sport these days, not speaking their mind.Just the usual bulls#*t ,but then if someone like Akermanis speaks his mind the media pounce like a pack of sharks and spend days making it newsworthy.I don't even listen to post match press conferences anymore because if you do speak your mind ,the precious NRL will fine the club. For a tough sport, the NRL have some real soft p#*cks.

All the clubs have to make their players available to the media as part of their NRL agreement. As Godz said, there will be a rotation in place, particularly amongst the senior group.

This season is no different. Bennett simply preferred to talk to the ABC rather than the tabloid media.

So Price is wrong for not talking to the media and our players are wrong for talking to the media? and we all want the extra money from the new media deal?

did I miss anything?

on a numbers basis it's exactly the same as it has been for the last four years, but it might seem like more as we put a lot more information from our media calls (videos/stories/images) on the web than we used to?

heads up though it's likely you'll see a lot more Dragons/NRL players in general doing media after this Sunday's game as there is a new NRL media protocol that comes into force from round 20 setting minimum requirements for every team ...

Not to be a dickhead, but where exactly does it say players MUST talk to the media whenever the media wants?

If I was coach I'd impose a media ban until we got our shit together and if the NRL fines us I will happily pay it out of the combined players wages.

Here we go... defending mediocrity again. You love losing don't you. As long as the team says they are trying hard then everything is just fine and dandy by you.

f**king dribbler. Creagh needs to start having a dig and stop stating the f**king obvious. They are all soft at the moment. With the exception of a few. Harden the f**k up.
