Video Refs at it again

Mara's left hand is definitely wrapped on the ball first. I've posted an image of that elsewhere. I daresay awarding that and living with it as the right decision is creating a very, very dangerous precedent. Thank God Raper can see that and applied some common sense in his judgment. Imagine if they had have supported the decision, talk about opening a can of worms.

No worse than many decisions they've made over the years, but was an absolute clear cut wrong decision.

Up there with the gasnier bounce try IMO

The picky, innocuous no try against Roosters yesterday and the try for Dogs tonight were two of the worst I've seen.

But then again I say that every few weeks.. I give up trying to figure the video refs out... so inconsistent and then Harrigan comes out like he did today saying they made the wrong decision blah blah blah.

So the concern re head contact only applies to team in possession. If a tackler gets an elbow in the head it doesn't need action.

What about the penalty the Dragons got from the so called head high tackle from Crocker which a Soward goal kick could have won the game with?

How was that a penalty when this Roosters one according to NRL shouldn't have been?

This.

I don't know why people are suggesting an elbow to the face is ok if it's an attacker hitting a defender. No different to an attacker raising knees at a defender. Jason King got penalised for raising an elbow into a defender during the WCC but we didn't hear boo about it because it was a Manly player getting penalised.

I don't think you'll find a league fan alive that believed that tackle by Crocker on Hornby was anything like a high tackle.

Hornby fell over, and even then Crocker still only grabbed him around the shoulders.

Absolute bullshit penalty which luckily Soward missed

If knee lifts were penalised as pedantically as Takarangi's "elbow" then Kite would have never completed a legal hit up his entire career

The refs are worst now than they were under Mick Stone / Peter Louis / Robert Finch. They have all this technology and they are fulltime (i guess most of them) compared to the 80s....they have TWO refs on the field...AND a video ref and they still screw up time and tme again. Yes it is a hard job, and yes the players greatly influene the result of the game through their play, but the refs need to be held more accountable than they are.

Did you see the camera angle from behind Harrison? He copped the point of the elbow square in the face and his head jolted back in such a way he was unable to make the tackle as effectively as he should have, which meant the offload was possible. Without the elbow there is no offload.

As for knees, both Kite and King have served suspensions for raised knees, can you name any other players that have been? There are raised knees in most games but funnily enough it only occasionally gets noticed by officials. But again, noone cares when Manly cop the wrong end of it but when Manly is on the right end the whole system needs to be looked at.

contact was made with forearm/wrist, with the elbow point only coming up after impact to fend him off.

As for the knee lifts, Kite and King have been suspended for them because they are 2 of the dirtiest knee lifting grubs of the last decade. Both lift knees constantly, and have only been suspended when their knee lift has resulted in a player being injured.

They get suspended for it because they are the most serial offenders of it

Rubbish. We didn't hear boo about it because no one was watching.

Did you hear any complaints from Manly fans though? We copped it because it is against the rules. Might have felt a little aggrieved because it's something that never gets pulled up but the fact remains it is against the rules and can be penalised. However, there's no point blowing up because the refs have made the correct call. Roosters fans need to realise this. They have every right to feel a little aggrieved because it doesn't often get pulled up but they cannot whinge because the rule is there and the ref made the correct call.

Exactly.

Excuse us for not being aware of an alleged similar incident in a manly trial game played in the pre-season at 5:00am in the morning.

Firechild if you can find a replay of this incident with King I'd be happy to compare

Channel 9 showed the game at about 3pm IIRC. Funny that people feel the world is so devoid of rugby league in the off season they stoop to watching a circus between an Indigenous side and a bunch of players who have nothing in common to represent but don't bother watching a game between the best sides in the NRL and Super League.

I'll see if I can find footage but I don't think I will.

Forearm/wrist/elbow/fist etc. Does not matter either way. Called a "Vicious fend". Google "nrl rules vicious fend" and read one of the pdf's. By the book it was a fair penalty, but I do understand the anger with consistency. However, we all know refs fail majorly in that department. Ive seen it let go on numerous occasions, but at the end of the day contact to the head should be minimized.

King and Kite had a very bad habit of lifting their knees, but Hasler coached that out of em and they haven't done it to my knowledge for at least a year.

Which is comparable to a tackler's arm bouncing off the ball & then accidentally coming into contact with the ball carrier's head. It shouldn't be but that sort of contact is a penalty every week.

The point is most of these head contact penalties are just rubbish & the NRL saying the video referee at the Roosters game was wrong proves it.

And don't forget Luke O'Donnell was run out of the game for his bumper fend off when running with the ball.

You are an idiot.

The NRL have admitted it was the wrong call. We got ripped off, Manly, as usual benefitted of crap refereeing at Brookvale.
