I hate to say it but McInnes is a waste of space. There is no way in the world that he was our best player. The reason why his tackle count was so high was because he was forced to defend for large amounts of time, not to mention the fact that he played more minutes. You only have to look at the first half when we were so slow in attack and lack any sort of direction to see what I'm talking about. That is where a good hooker is paramount and is the reason why Cameron Smith will be an immortal. A lot of the things he does may go unnoticed when he plays but it is when he is absent that you truly notice the impact that he has. I'm not saying that I expect McInnes to be like Smith but I think we definitely need more from him. The guy basically lacks direction.

When Cook came on in the second half, we started to get a role on and we looked like we had direction. It is no coincidence that we looked far more threatening when he came on and he gave us a platform to put some pressure on the dogs. I'm not saying everything was perfect when he was out there but I think he is definitely a lot better than McInnes. As for the bulldogs getting fast play the balls, that has nothing to do with the hooker exclusively in defence. That is the combination of poor marker defence and our defensive line not moving up fast enough. You could also argue that our pack was monstered by Canterbury's forwards we were beaten for size. In saying that, Damian Cook doesn't really look that much bigger or smaller than McInnes.

I checked the stats at halftime mcinnes had made 23 tackles and made 29 metres in 40 minutes. Cook came on and played about 35 minutes, made 16 tackles and 15 metres. Our forwards were a lot better in the second half plus graham spent most of the bench, so cook had a lot more opportunities but i still think mcinnes outplayed him at hooker. The defence is light years apart. Mcinnes makes good initial contact, can wrestle big guys to the ground and force slow play the balls, a lot of cooks tackles he is getting bumped of or a lack of wrestle means players can get a fast play the ball on him. This has been consistent in all 4 rounds so far. If i rated both players on attack mcinnes is a 7 and cook is a 7.5 but if you rate their defence then mcinnes is an 8.5 and cook is a 5.

Personally with the hookers situation I like both guys but I think Cook should have been used in the first half to help try and bring the roll on early on. Instead we kept Cam on who was absolutely buggered which didn't help things.

no need to panic guys. it was always going to be difficult with great players like sam burgess, tom burgess, sutton, aj and reyno out, especially against a tough team like the dogs. with all these injuries i saw this loss coming, although i thought it would be closer. first half performance was shocking, but good to see them win the second half 12-10. our for and against is +42, which is important because a lot of teams will be on 4 points after this round. hopefully some of our injured players will be ok to play next game

Personally, I thought it was a big big mistake not playing Sam Burgess. This was a massive game being the Good Friday clash against the Bulldogs and with all the injuries that we've got, I would have gotten Sam out on the field at all costs.

but didn't the medical staff decide he wasn't ready???

His spot could have taken by Chris Grevsmuhl, who was easily our best forward in the game. The guy is the absolute antithesis of Kyle Turner is that he is strong and mobile, aggressive, has a decent offload and can poke his nose through a hole. His style would have been absolutely perfect for a game against the Bulldogs. Funnily enough, I can remember Maguire leaving him out in a game against the Bulldogs last year too! I personally, believe that Michael Maguire for some reason has never really warmed to Grevsmuhl and doesn't rate him that highly. I mean the fact that he chose to resign Kyle Turner over him speaks volumes of the regard in which he holds him. Mark my words, I think we will regret letting him go to Penrith.

i wish we kept him too. he'll play for qld soon, but penrith payed overs for him though, so if madge matched the offer, he would have had to let go of a good player

I thought we'd lose. But not by that much.

We were outnumbered a lot too. I'm disappointed in that.

Also members/fans leaving at half time disgusted me.

Through the good and bad I always stay for the 80mins.

We have too many medium sized forwards too. Guys like Tyrrell, Clark, Carter, Turner and Gosiewski.

Dogs were just so powerful in the middle as expected and they wanted it more. The dominance in the middle compressed our defence and created heaps of space on the edges.

Souths had a poor attitude and lacked energy.

No probs with the refing. When you're outplayed like that a couple of 50/50 calls will go against you.

Well played Dogs. Just far too strong and deserved to win by that margin. Credit to them.

It's also obvious we are shocking without Sam. We are really missing Reyno.

Not impressed with Keary. He only played well near the end.

I'm happy with Cody.

A Cody and Reyno halves combo is what we want.

McInnes is too slow at dummy half too. I think Cook has to start.

I'm happy with Hunt and Auva'a.

Goodwin tried really hard. Maybe did his hamstring though.

That was a good game to remember as we got to see all the NSW Cup players in the team

Souths have been loading up on NSW Cup players for the last few years and it got shown up today as well as at the end of last season

Enjoy the win.

Far too good and powerful

A well deserved win from the Dogs fair and square.

Carter was the second worst on field.

Far too many errors.

Tyrrell was the worst and made 1 hit up. That is just disgraceful.

Not good enough:x

Bad day at the office and we know they are better than that. No excuses though we were outplayed and it is clear that unless you are switched on for the 80 you will not win. We should also remember that we are without a fair bit of talent and were backing up after a very hard game and a short turn around.

Let's focus on on the next game and see if the boys can redeem themselves.

newc no point watching the replay mate its was a shocker ile be backing souths against manly next thurs unlike others i thought i knew on here they will back manly, ile fall on my sword before id back another team against my beloved souths.i prefer to come last in this tipping comp than to pick a rebel team against my beloved souths some hold souths with a far lesser passion than myself which is understandable.

Wow well this was a shock. I mean I know Souths were missing a couple players, but to lose 42-12... Seriously I had thought the bunnies had better depth than that

Just below the thigh and then sneakily twisting GI's knee.

I know what the Dogs are going to do. Keep trying to twist GI's knee and get away with it.[/B]

This subject is minor in the scheme of the shit refing yesterday. I'm still angry about it.

Then you've got Des behind closed doors saying the Dogs aren't getting reffed fairly.

Des is whinging as he lost the penalties 8-6.

Rabbits20, just wondering if you and the 80 Souths members you said you spoke to could provide evidence of Canterbury players deliberately targeting and illegally twisting Inglis' suspect knee.
