After the Cowboys loss tonight they will be desperate! But we have a lot to play for ourselves with it being our last home game we should get a good crowd. It is important that we win to keep pushing for a top 2 finish.

Once you lose 1 game you can lose 2 so we need to keep our momentum going.

Lets hope Turner is back ready to go.

that's a strong lineup, but i'm still not sure about lote (even though he is playing pretty good at the moment). in defense, he gets caught out alot by coming in too much, and leaving his opposing winger left unmarked. broncos almost took advantage of it, but thankfully the broncos winger knocked on over the try line. thurston may be licking his chops...

p.s. when is sutto coming back??? i'm guessing when he does he'll start in the second row, and turner to the interchange...

We're not coached to hurt, Bunnies forward Jason Clark says of wrestling tactics

South Sydney forward Jason Clark is adamant his side is not coached to injure opponents after five Rabbitohs were cited for wrestling manoeuvres in just two games.
The foundation club has again come under scrutiny for its defensive techniques after Ben T'eo was suspended for a chicken wing tackle on Brisbane's Sam Thaiday last Thursday. Teammates Chris McQueen and Kirisome Auva'a were cited for crusher tackles, while George Burgess and Issac Luke have also gained the attention of the match review committee in the past fortnight.
Speaking at the Sydney Cricket Ground after being inducted into the NRL-Rugby League Players Association academic team of the year, Clark said the indiscretions were something the Rabbitohs were trying to eradicate from their game.
"You never want to see anyone hurt in the game,'' Clark said.''Unfortunately [that] has happened this year with a couple of tackles. We're aiming to do the right things right and get our defence right.
''If someone was going out in the game to intentionally hurt someone – you would hope that never happens.
"You want all 17 men to walk off the field safe and that's how you want to feel in our game, you want to feel safe while you're playing.''
South Sydney coach Michael Maguire was criticised by rivals during his time in the Super League, most notably by former St George Illawarra coach Nathan Brown, about wrestling tactics. After beating Manly, Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey said the Rabbitohs had ''wrestled the crap'' out of his team.
However, Clark said there was no intention to injure opponents.
"It's a defensive game, it's a contact game,'' said the apprentice plumber who has a certificate three in fitness and certificate four in small business.
''We're working on that, we're trying to get those little things right so we don't get into those situations. We'll try to get that out of the game.
"Every team does defence and we're working on that to get the little things right so those things don't happen.''
The Rabbitohs have rocketed into premiership favouritism after a dominant month of football that included wins over Manly and Brisbane. They will remain a chance of claiming the minor premiership if they defeat another finals-bound side, North Queensland, at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
While Clark believes the emergence of youngsters including Dylan Walker, Luke Keary and Auva'a make the present squad superior to the one that bowed out a game before the grand final two seasons in a row, he was not buying into the expectation surrounding the Bunnies.
"That's footy – if media want to hype it up, that's what they're going to do,'' he said.
"It's an exciting time of the year, coming into semis. We've got three tough games coming up and we're taking it week by week at the moment.''

Rd 16: Cowboys v Rabbitohs (Hls)

Highlights of the match between the Cowboys & Rabbitohs

Rabbitohs v Cowboys
ANZ Stadium
Saturday, 7.30pm

Set your 'faces to stun' for this one, there'll be more premiership muscle on show at ANZ Stadium this Saturday night than at a strongman contest as two of the NRL's form teams go head-to-head.

The Rabbits have long been the pride of the league, and right now there's a whole mess of mighty about them as well, with last week's 42-16 demolition of the Broncos capping a run of four wins in 17 days, and five undefeated weeks on the trot for the cardinal and myrtle.

Since dusting the Raiders back in Round 19, Souths have gone from strength to strength, with every cog of their monstrous engine room whirring away with brutal precision and cohesion, while halves Adam Reynolds and Luke Keary are guiding them around the park as if they've been doing it for years, not weeks. And out the back Greg Inglis leads a fleet of brand spanking new Ferraris just waiting to unleash and put the throttle down in open space.

All of which has Souths fans daring to believe that maybe, just maybe, the premiership thirst they've endured since before coach Michael Maguire was born could be quenched sooner rather than later.

The Cowboys themselves aren't travelling too shabbily either. Monday night's 23-22 loss to the Panthers at a soggy ol' Sportingbet Stadium was the first time in a month they haven't belted out their victory song, complete with their famous wheelie-bin percussion arrangement.

This puts them behind only Saturday night's opponents for wins since Origin III, a winning sequence that has shot them well into the reckoning for the finals, though Matt Moylan's 78th minute field goal to sink them on Monday means they're not home and hosed just yet.

North Queensland could dearly use a win over the Rabbits to not only push them a few rungs higher than the seventh spot they currently occupy on the NRL ladder, but also deliver some much needed confidence in their ability to perform at ANZ Stadium.

They may have broken through for their first win at the Olympic venue in eight years against the Bulldogs back in Round 20, but that still only counts for one win in eight years at the joint, and they'll have to get used to the place if they want to progress further into the finals than in campaigns of recent years.

In team news Rabbitohs second-rower Kyle Turner comes back from an injury, slotting in for the suspended Ben Te'o. Tariq Sims is back from suspension for the Cowboys, pushing Gavin Cooper back to the bench, and James Tamou is still nowhere to be seen.

Watch Out Rabbitohs: What do Justin Timberlake, Johnathan Thurston and Jason Taumalolo have in common? Admittedly, not a whole lot beyond sharing initials but those last two are in magnificent form for the Cowboys at the moment. 21-year-old Taumalolo has been filling out all that potential in his 191 cm 112 kilo frame rather nicely over the past month, breaking 22 tackles in his last four games, as well as a healthy 137 metres from 15 runs each outing. Weighing in almost 30kgs lighter, Thurston's contribution to the Cowboys resurgence has been no less significant. He's racked up eight line break assists and nine try assists in the past 30 days, and will be spoiling for a top shelf showing after being outpointed by Jamie Soward on Monday night.

Watch Out Cowboys: GI's back. Not that he'd ever really left, more just happily taken a backseat as young guns Walker, Keary and Johnston have rightly received plenty of plaudits in the Rabbitohs’ winning run. That is until Inglis exploded into life last weekend against the Broncos with the 10th hat-trick of his career and the single best individual performance of 2014 thus far. Three tries, 156 running metres, six tackle breaks, a try assist and a ripping try-saving tackle on Ben Barba to boot will all have whet the big man's appetite for a showdown with the Cowboys, an outfit he hasn't gone hungry against in five games going back to 2009, making for a very healthy strike-rate of 14 tries in 14 clashes with the North Queenslanders.

Plays To Watch: Inglis isn't just dangerous with the ball in hand, with all 195 centimetres of him making the Kangaroos star a prime target for Reynolds' midfield bombs in recent weeks. Against the Broncos Reynolds sent the ball up to the heavens twice in the second half and twice the towering fullback brought it down for a Rabbitohs try, so Cowboys custodian Michael Morgan can expect the tactic to get a similar workout come Saturday night, particularly after Penrith's Jamal Idris outmuscled him in their last-start loss.

Where It Will Be Won: As good as the red and green backline has been over the past five weeks, they've done so because of the grunt their forwards are packing up front, and it's here where the Cowboys have to match the Rabbitohs if they're to be any chance. Brisbane had their moments last week, and Manly fought a good fight for over an hour the week prior, but Souths’ power game is relentless, as seen in the fact they've scored the more tries (30) through the middle third of the field, more than any other team in the comp, while at the same time conceding the least four-pointers in the league, 12 down that same corridor. North Queensland face one hell of a task in shutting down the Rabbitohs' big men, and late in the game the fact they're on the short five-day turnaround could well become the deciding factor.

The History: Played 25; Rabbitohs 13, Cowboys 11, 1 drawn. The Cowboys are gunning for their third win on the trot against Souths, but this shouldn't mask the fact their efforts against the red and green have had plenty of Elmer Fudd about them, with those ‘wascally wabbits’ coming up trumps in 8 of their last 11 meetings.

What Are The Odds: Sportsbet haven’t been hearing from Cowboys fans at all in this one, with their side $2.77. Nearly all of the betting action has been on South Sydney ($1.47) at the line, even though they’re conceding 8.0 points start. Latest odds at Sportsbet.com.au.

Match Officials: Referees – Jared Maxwell & Chris Butler; Touch Judges – Steve Carrall & Brett Suttor; Video Referees – Steve Chiddy & Ben Galea.

Televised: Fox Sports – Live, 7.30pm.

How We See It: The Cowboys have the talent and the game breakers to trouble Souths, and any side with Thurston amongst its ranks has to be treated with respect. But with the short turnaround, the sheer physicality of the Bunnies’ big boppers and Greg Inglis's brilliance bubbling away at the back, the Rabbitohs are just about irresistible in the type of form they're showing at the moment. Rabbitohs by 6.

Cowboys a Threat Across the Park - Reynolds

Words: Tom Skolarikis I Video: Chris Beavon

Johnathan Thurston may be one of the game’s most dangerous play-makers, but for Adam Reynolds, the half is just one of many Cowboys ready to take their opportunities this Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.
Reynolds will line up against Thurston, who will wear the number seven for the North Queensland outfit in Saturday’s round 24 clash. But Reynolds says his side is wary of this week’s opponents, who narrowly went down to the Panthers on Monday night.
“They’ve been playing some good footy,” said Reynolds.
“Any team that has him (Johnathan Thurston), Matt Scott and the rest of their players – it’s definitely going to be a tough ask. We’re going to have to prepare well and turn up on the night.”
Before going down to the third placed Panthers on Monday by a single point, the Cowboys had won four matches in a row, including a 64-6 obliteration of the Wests Tigers just one week previous.
The Rabbitohs have now won five games in succession, including a commanding victory over competition leaders, Manly-Warringah, with Reynolds playing an instrumental role.
But despite the solid performances, Reynolds put his showings down to the hard work of his teammates.
“Credit goes to the team,” said Reynolds.
“We’ve been holding onto the ball and playing some good football which makes my job a lot easier.”

Souths lost focus in 2013: McQueen

Chris McQueen admits South Sydney were guilty of believing their own hype ahead of last year’s preliminary final flop but says it’s a mistake that won’t be made this season.
Burdened by a 43-year premiership drought, long-suffering Rabbitohs fans were ecstatic after Melbourne were brushed aside 20-10 in the opening week of the NRL finals.
The Storm had won 14 of the preceding 15 fixtures between the sides but the Rabbitohs turned the tables, sending the hype machine surrounding the foundation club into overdrive.
Despite earning themselves a week off going into game against Manly and racing to an early lead, Michael Maguire’s side were ambushed by a battle-hardened Sea Eagles outfit they’d already beaten twice that season.
“We’ve learned a lot of lessons from that,” McQueen told AAP.
“When you get to the finals, anything can happen. Form doesn’t count for anything – it’s about what happens on the day.
“It’s one thing that Madge (Maguire) has driven into us that it’s one game at a time.”
McQueen admits it is difficult avoiding the hype that surrounds one of the biggest and best supported clubs in the NRL but the experience of falling one game short of the grand final in successive years certainly helps.
“A lot of the boys, over the last few years, hadn’t much finals experience,” he said.
“We’d never been in that position and a few of the boys were guilty of getting ahead of themselves.
“It was something we talked about at the end of the year. We have to worry about now and not what might happen in the future because if can be over in a flash.
“For me, it’s easy to distance myself. If I pick up the paper, there will be something in there about South Sydney so I don’t read them.
“If I turn on Fox Sports News, there will be something about Souths on there, so I don’t watch it.
“I know if there is nothing for me to see, then it makes it easy to focus on what’s in front of me.”
McQueen recently put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new two-year deal that brought the Queensland back-rower’s pay in line with other representative players at the club.
He said it was a relief to get the deal completed and that he never wanted to leave Souths.
“It was going on for a while and there were rumours about whether I was staying or not,” he said.
“But I knew the whole time and so did the club that I wasn’t going anywhere.”

McQueen sums it up very well 1 game at a time! Every game is tough and I think most supporters are dreaming we can go all the way but anything can happen any week.

The comp is so close this year and so open for a team outside the top 4 to cause some upsets and make a run.

Last year Mcqueen's form dipped in the second half of the year last year. But I have a very good feeling he is going to hit top form soon!

Fingers crossed that Kyle Turner doesn't get any more head knocks he has a great future and it would be a shame if he had to retire in the next couple of years.

that's a strong lineup, but i'm still not sure about lote (even though he is playing pretty good at the moment). in defense, he gets caught out alot by coming in too much, and leaving his opposing winger left unmarked. broncos almost took advantage of it, but thankfully the broncos winger knocked on over the try line. thurston may be licking his chops...

p.s. when is sutto coming back??? i'm guessing when he does he'll start in the second row, and turner to the interchange...

I know Lote's defence was off last week and he came off his wing too much will be a target in bigger games. But Dylan Walker came in field too much at times as well. I think we just need more numbers on that side like we have been except against the Broncos.

Lote and Dylan are forming a good partnership on that side and I wouldn't change it. Lote is making good metres in hit ups and has good leg drive and energy which has been good. I think Dylan's speed covers up Lote in defence at times.

If Goodwin was playing well he could replace Lote but he has been out of form the year and he is a centre when he plays on the wing he is ordinary.

This year on the wing Goodwin has:
- Dropped a lot of bombs he seems to slap at the ball.
- Close to our own try line knocking on the ball when trying to return the oppositions kick and fumbling the ball backwards and stuttering which puts more pressure on.
- Out of dummy half running sideways instead of going forward. Goodwin seems to run towards the sideline.
- When getting up to play the ball knocking on.
- Coming off his wing in defense like Lote and letting a try or 2 in per game.

Lote will have to have a shocker of a game to be replaced by Goodwin.

If Lote gets injured though I think Goodwin should come in as he performs better than Reddy or Merritt.

Souths ride on 'cheeky halves'

Former dual international Lote Tuqiri says of all the halves pairings he has played with, Adam Reynolds and Luke Keary would have to be among the cheekiest
While it took being pulled off midway through a game and a knee injury to captain John Sutton to do it, statistics show halfback Adam Reynolds has been inspirational for the Rabbitohs throughout their recent purple patch.
Reynolds prides himself on his kicking game and defence, and the 24-year-old has averaged 391.5 kicking metres and 22 tackles (missing just two per game) over the past month.
Asked whether the turning point of his season came when he was benched against Parramatta in Round 19, the Souths halfback didn't beat around the bush although his reassurance came with a silver lining for his teammates.
"Definitely," Reynolds said. "I wouldn't say I have been in better form. I would say that the confidence is there at the moment. It helps when the team is playing well.
"I didn't want to kick up a stink. I'm happy with my place in the team at the moment. It is a great culture at the club and it is a great place to be around at training which is special.
"I wasn't listening to any outside sources or reading into too many newspapers or looking into the media. I was just worried about doing my job for the team and doing well for Souths."
After leading his team to wins over the Eels, Newcastle, Brisbane and Manly in recent weeks, a confident Reynolds said he wasn't worried about his place at the club.
"I just knew I needed to work hard and keep at it and things would turn around. I just had to believe in myself. I needed to perform and I wasn't performing to the best of my ability," he said.
"It has made me work a lot harder at training which is something I should be doing anyways so it has definitely bought the best out of me."
Despite their good form, Reynolds knows his Rabbitohs cannot rest on their laurels, especially with an improving North Queensland outfit looking to beat Souths for the second time this season after accounting for the premiership favourites 20-18 in Round 16.
"They have players across the board that are dangerous," Reynolds said.
"We just have to hold onto the ball and stick to our structures. They are a tough team and last time we played them our defensive structures were out of whack and they scored some points early on and they were too hard to peg back so not giving them a good start this time around will go a long way to winning the game."
A showdown with Johnathan Thurston will also be another test for Reynolds to overcome.
"[JT] is always a tough challenge," Reynolds said. "He's a wonderful player and a great competitor. He is something special out there on the field and he's always asking questions of the defence. His competitiveness is second to none in first grade."
Whether Reynolds form continues remains to be seen but a good showing against Thurston will all but confirm that the halfback is the real deal moving forward.
