Vs Manly rd3

I thought the warriors would be really fired up for the game last night given the circumstances around it, and couldn’t quite understand why the forwards were so insipid, but then thought that as a club they didn’t get down here early enough and immerse themselves in it

Manly were here since Wednesday night and did a lot of visits and talking to the community etc, the warriors sent some wider squad members down early along with some staff but the main squad didn’t arrive until late Friday morning and maybe didn’t get the feel for things, because the likes of Taupau and AFB looked ready to run through brick walls right from kick off

No disrespect to the teams we've played so far but one couldn't ask for an easier draw. If we were remotely decent we should be 3-0

We're not remotely good obviously, last year looks like a fluke TBH

Comparing to last year, what seriously worries me is how many have dropped off, and how far.

Paasi was leading the pack last year, suddenly he's plod.
Afoa seems to have gone backwards.
Ken no longer makes metres.
Fus is quite content to sit it out.
Harris looks badly out of sorts.
Kata for all his flaws was at least defending reasonably well.
Hiku was showing signs of improvement towards the end of last season.

What the hell happened in the off season?

I don't think last year was a fluke, last year the men above were playing at the level they should be.

Losing Johnson aside, which was abysmally handled, I felt like we recruited pretty well.
There is absolutely no excuse for what's going on.

Kata should've been taken off immediately after he failed to chase on one of those early tries. Can't have that shit when you've got a guy who literally plays your position sitting on the bench when normally you wouldn't have a centre there.. just allowing shit standards to stay at the club, by letting him play on at that point.

What about Fusitu’a on that play. He was casually jogging to the ball. No urgency and he got shown up. Kata turned like the Queen Mary on that play but I will give him and Blair some credit for chasing the Manly player off the intercept. The effort from Fusitu’a and Kata on Brad Parker the most inept attacking centre in the comp said it all. And Maumalo casually tapping the ball back for a try was horrific. Issac shouldn’t have been out there, it’s clear he has no confidence in his shoulder, he was getting destroyed like a two bit rag doll. The chip kick from Keighran that nearly went dead in goal from 10m out shows he’s not NRL standard. And by Christ Tohu Harris couldn’t help but miss out there. His defence was comfortably the worst I’ve ever seen from him.

The only ones who shouldn’t have to swim back to Auckland are RTS and perhaps Leeson and Bunty. Jazz Tevaga and Solomone Kata should have to swim back via Stewart and Kermandec Islands. Tohu should do laps to the Chatham’s as a warm up.

And Shaun Johnson was allegedly the problem eh Cameron lol. You and Brian Smith sure are good for the lols.

The whole performance was pathetic and gutless, to hear RTS say that Manly was hungrier, why? We should of been ready for f**ks sake, we just got thumped by the Tigers FFS, I don't care if I ever see Kata again, Hiku and Tevaga can go as well, a few of the others on last chance too and PS don't being Lisone back either. Plus to drop Sao of the bench and put in Beale and then not play him when Kata is F**king useless, words fail me.

This was my changes I would've made last MONDAY (repost of a post I did last Monday)...

I'd get rid of both centres this week and go with this backline...
1. RTS
2. Fus
3. Ayshford
4. Beale
5. Maumalo
I'd also drop Tevaga for Roach ASAP. Lisone for Satae.

Ayshford and Beale are better defensively than Hiku and Kata.

What was our problem this week? missed tackles?

To be fair, no-one saw us getting thrashed by the team that is touted as wooden spooners for this year.

I wonder whether Fusitu’a could come into centre and put Perham on a wing. He’s a big lad I’m sure he could defend a damn site better than Hiku or Kata. He almost caught frostbite out on the wing yesterday.

I don't get the story with Beale.

We didn't buy him to play in the reggies, and while he's no superstar he's clearly a full step above both Hiku and Kata.

Kearney really is an idiot.

Kearneys plausible excuse for picking suspect centres Hiku and Kata would be - the season is long enough to mould these guys into superstars come finals time.

Problem is - these guys have been trialled for almost 2 whole seasons (2 years) at that position and still the SAME!

Kata has been around for four seasons at the top grade, and it feels longer.

Will tick past 100 games this season assuming selection, as mentioned this is the only club in the NRL where this would have happened. A centre full of mistakes who can't pass and can't defend. Staggering.

With the investment made I would be tempted to play Kata right side backrow.

He is not an NRL standard centre.

If that does not work, time to invest elsewhere, they can't all come good.

Inevitably the Shaun stuff comes back up.

Did we leak 48 points because of the defence of our No.7? Was that the issue last week? We sure are bizarre as fans. Unless the same guy we used to bemoan drifting in and out of games, not engaging the line etc would have conjured up 37 more points for us yesterday?

What, our 8th was a fluke?? It’s not like we were all that good last year. And we had an international half last year

No, our defence was an issue that Johnson would not have fixed (although he is better defensively than Keighran).

But our halves conjured up 0 points yesterday.

Same as RTS, for all of his excellent work under the high ball/kick returns and hit stepping.

We had Manly defending their line for several sets and never looked like scoring. We looked rudderless and bereft on ideas. No doubt, we were better with Johnson.

Defence is clearly not the only issue. We have issues on both sides of the ball.

RTS must be on 6 million out of your salary cap.

The rest are reserve graders save for the always injured luke.

I thought about that, for sure. Fusitu’a is a class finisher though and I am not sure Centre is his strongest position, regardless of how desperate we are for centres.

Johnson wouldn’t have changed anything in the last two results, but there’s no denying we’re totally screwed in the halves now.

He won’t defend us against 50 point hidings but without him we can barely string an attack.
