If this season continues to turn to shit, the the ABs win a third World Cup and an NZ franchise wins the super rugby, I really fear for the future of both the club and code in NZ. I think we’re already seeing signs of a steadily decreasing talent pool coming into the club as the code with its shoddily run grass roots and no support from schools etc struggles to compete with the juggernaut that is NZ rugby union.

I was thinking about this the other day. Has rugby league in NZ gone backwards since the Warriors entered the comp? You had Auckland teams back in the day serve up some great performances against touring international teams at Carla’s Park. When we first started we averaged iirc 28000 at home games. On so many occasions they have close to semi cementing their place in highlighting league which imo has tremendous potential to be a Broncos type success story in terms of crowd support but then they revert to normality and dismal failures ensue.

No I think you’re right. Notmsolely down to the Warriors though, like I mentioned there’s also the issue of competing with RU during the most dominant All Black era in decades, if not ever.

I wonder how much influence Simon was still having on the team last year though. He’s the kind of guy that even when his own body was starting to let him down would’ve been inspiring the others to dig in. I reckon we’re missing that.

Immeasurably so

Green's been doing the best he can without a first grade half partner, a pissweak pack and spastics for centres
