Leuluai is trying but he just isn't good enough, not an NRL half.

He's got no long or short kicking game and doesn't put players into holes
He defends fine and has a quick pass, but that's it

Townsend is young and raw but he has the whole package

List of some of the 50/50 stuff that happened.

Their first try - obvious bad call by refs for penalty that lead to try
Manu's no try - Laumape lifts his head slightly so that he's 'looking' for the ball but everything else plays out exactly the same? It's play on
Their 2nd(?) try where they checked to see if Johnson was obstructed - seen those pulled back before.
Mateo's held up - he scores that try 9/10 times. Was just unlucky tonight.

4 plays which go the other way and we're winning that game.

I was filthy about the dud calls too. But unlike the Tigers 2011 game I kept referring to, we just didn't put up much of a fight.

We had a post halftime surge but that's about it. Dropped easy ball, forwards didn't make metres, ran out the sideline a couple of times, abysmal 5th tackle options

If we played at somewhere near our top gear we would have pulled back from those handicaps and levelled it up. We didn't play like a team with their season on the line

Couple times it was building nicely on left edge and TL picks wrong option every time. The Chad was putting people into holes and had a good thing going with simon. TL got nothing.

Tomkin's did good things and bad.
Problem is good didn't create point with his good and did not commit the man in our pet run across the field and hope Hurrell can bust a tackle.
Moylan on the other hand committed Manu to come up making a bad read and put a perfect ball infor his winger! It was beautiful to watch, you could nearly see him smile as Manu commits!
We really seem to be missing football brains on the field.
As for the Volleyball jump and bat back!

But they didn't. We weren't unlucky, we were poor. Of course, contentious calls certainly influence the outcome of a match but really, we just didn't turn up, nor did we create our own luck.

Panthers forward pass before their second try let go.
Sika Manu drops the ball - play on.
Leuluai ruled offside off a bomb even though Tomkins ran him onside.
Peyroux makes a tackle and Panthers drop it. Even if it is a strip it went back - ruled a knock on.
Panthers break the scrum about 5 minutes early - play on.

Just a typical Warriors game for Shane Hayne.

We are missing leaders on the field, when it gets tough nobody inspires the troops to get up

You may be right mate. While he played well, I don't think he was outstanding. Never mind, we'll live to fight another season.
Yes lets hope they fight next year.

I think Hoffman will make a difference. But unless you make radical changes like say making that player Captain , moving Tomkins to the halves etc.....serious reboot of the program......one import is not enough to get that bit extra.

Personally I hold out hope we sign some of these players that fans criticise so readily for their personalities or call them injury prone....too old....or whatever.

Those same players in the Rumors threads have what's needed between their ears.

We lost tonight because of a lack of footballing intelligence.

My favourite was two high shots within about 5 minutes of each other, both reviewed by video ref, one is a penalty to the panthers and the other is play on.

If we got close tonight then we can point at the rubbish calls
In a 22-6 loss it doesn't mean anything, as crap as the refs were

Special mention to the commentators though, how biased were they?
They saw nothing wrong with any of the abysmal decisions or pretended they didn't happen

 Laumape did milk that for all its worth though
Not that Brown didn't, but he copped a decent shot to the head

We wuz robbed

I saw tonight's game as very similar to when we played penrith at home this year. That game was very close and we had a few lucky plays - Johnson's intercept and dumb in goal play from moulin which led to a try for us - which saw us home by 10 points. Nobody was saying how badly we played then. That night we got lucky, tonight it was panthers turn. To say they were much better than us tonight is as wrong as saying we were much better than them 10 weeks ago. I just don't see much between the teams.

Johnson and Tomkins are trying their best, but nobody is paying attention. The Warriors culture, with this playing group, does not perform well with a 'lead by example' type model. E.g. Mannering, Matulino, Vatuvei. Those players, as leaders, are severely lacking. Great individual, performers. But lacking as leaders as a senior group.

I also however think that our young guys and senior guys don't react well to being 'talked at'. This needs to change.

Earlier in the season, it seemed to me that the younger guys looked taken aback by Townsends yapping and direction. They need to get over this. Guys like Johnson Tomkins and Townsend need to be the senior leaders for this team. If the younger and older guys can't get on board with being bossed around, then they need to f**k off.

We are never going to turn into a consistent top 8 let alone top 4 team unless we can develop a strong onfield leadership group. At the moment it looks like this isn't been allowed to happen.

Why it isn't is another story entirely.

I agree. We were comprehensively outplayed by a much more professional and mentally stronger team. Refs had nothing to do with it.

Send mateo to Penrith. Seems to have only played good for Ivan. God we need a Steve price type player right now. Hope Hoffman has that in him.

f**k getting Matai or Watmough if we want a manly player get Foran. Leuluai in the halves is no longer tenable. Either Townsend or Tomkins goes in there next year and we find a Fb if Sam moves.. Hoffman or Tui maybe

Pack your bags mateo, matagi, and maybes couple of others.

Tomkins is not the problem with us, he is one of the positives along with Manu and Bull in a shit season really tbh.

Bugger. Was a tough game - Penrith really turned up, and looked tuned and ready for finals footy. We kind of meandered around for most of the game hoping for something to happen. There were a couple of shocking calls by the refs early on that put us on the back foot, but at the end of the day you need to push past those and just play better footy than that. The Panthers just wanted it more, so can't complain.

I think overall we have improved this year though, only missing the 8 by the skin of our teeth. Give Cappy a full off season to work on everything and we will be back bigger and stronger next season.

This post Mirrors my own thinking.

Personally I hope they try the Model what they did with Price and Campion and make the outsider the New Captain signalling a new direction and changing the command structure.

If Not Hoffman then Sam Tomkins. Someone that's articulate basically and that will be able to talk specific tactics with players during games instead of someone that can only parrot coaching phrases like ' stick to our processes'.

I also think that Shaun Johnson should be made Vice Captain, the only reason not to put him in the lead right off is to be careful with his headspace long term.

Simons a great player in defence. He's an admirable person and symbolises what we want from this team.

But why would having a lead by example person in charge be enough in of itself in the team that bludged off Michael Luck and Nathan freind..... plus Simon Mannerings defensive efforts...whilst never stepping into that mold themselves.

This team do not need pack horses in charge carrying them. They need an experienced voice, experienced in winning.

On a side note Our forwards got killed tonight, they got cut down before the advantage line.

That problem was unfortunately generated by our dummy half service which was appalling.
