Think that game will encapsulate the Warriors season. Not pretty but kept in the contest grinding away

When the Warriors win, there will be 4 words, grind, gutsy, effort and scramble.

In the current lineup there isn’t any skill or game breaking ability in attack, it will be grind away, finish the sets well, and try to wear the opposition down over the long run. The CHT try is the perfect example, the kick was decidedly average, but sheer effort created the try. 2 wins will keep the pairing together, but this 6 and 7 ain’t it for the long term success.

Defensively, the structure doesn’t look great out wide, they are getting skinned constantly, but those 2 words are there, effort and scramble. They keep on coming and in the end just do enough to stop the try somehow. Long term against a team executing well, there may be some tough nights

Going to be an interesting season. Those 4 words I mentioned up top, probably sum up no player in the comp better than Charnze

I thought Tuapiki and Leitaua formed a good combination -- were actually better than the more experienced Pompey and RTS on both attack and, crucially, defencse (RTS kept jamming in too early). I thought Metcalfe was almost invisible and I would instead build with TMM and CHT instead. I wonder if there is intel on TMM we don't know about around his injuries that render him not a long-term option that is why he's sitting in reserves.

Chad not allowed to form a mall.
47m by Roosters.
21m by Warriors (seemed aideways)
Egan holding his jaw after it hitting a Roosters shoulder. Of course nothing to see here.
Teddy throws a pass to heigh for Young, very similar to Manly mistake last week.
Height shot by Lenui penalised.

Clarke or Capewell done for a crusher.
Another pass on the right for Roosters goes to ground.

Good line speed early.

Townsend out of full on their 40m, Capewell putting pressure on.
6 again ad Radley playing at ball as JFH playing it.
Capewell chip earns a repeat set after CHT chips towards tallest man on field for 3rd or 4th time.
Leiataua held up over the line on last.
So much possession and territory for nothing.
Rooster lose the ball in a tackle on their 40m.
Ref stops game because Niukore bowls over 2 Roosters. No HIA or anything. Next we lose the ball, Radley asked to go off by independent Dr.
Warriors give away 6 again for ruck infringement.
Ref call Warriors lose ball when passed By Roosters 10m out, looked back by me, but no challenge.
Rooster Centre sore ribs.
Rooster score next to post, Clarke missed one on one.

0-6 22mins

Niukore In pain with knee issue. Replay not good, but limping on.
6 again after Rooster to long in tackle.
6 again 10m out as Chad works Ford onto his back.
Leiataua uses his strength to go through 2 tackles to score. I thought the CNK pass was a touch early but maddens difference.

4-6 26mins

Walker hit height falling in a tackle, get to start on halfway.
Pompey tap on under pressure and an open RTS went 5m forward.
Tupou makes a break and kicks inside and ball bounce for Capewell saving the day.
Warriors penalised after taking Young down as he getting up, Good sell job by Young.
Rooster lose ball under pressure.
Second mistake by 16 losing ball getting up, Watson Foot gave it a flick.
Tuaupiki rushed in and didnt get the man or ball that went to Tupou who sent back to Rooster centre who chipped chased and juggled and was dead in goal when he regathered. No try.
Again game stopped when Roosters player in back field, not in the ruck. Ford with a swinging back arm gets Watson in jaw. Off for HIA.

HALFTIME.
Stats At halftime very similar. Didnt show field position.
Egan can't buy a not square penalty, even when player gives it up and looks at ref.
Good read by Ford on Teddy inside pass.
Watson gone for game.
Tuaupiki loses ball, captains challenge.
Clear lost ball before it pops out. Bunker calling it knock back and challenge successful. Wrong call in our favour?
Roosters lose ball in tackle going to ground trying to pass on our halfway.
CHT knock on double inside ball by Walker.
Line speed gone midfield.
Roosters put it down.
Lenui trying to get game stopped like last 3 times staying down with dislocation?
Townsend kicks 40/20 (40/10), CNK strolling to it!!
CNK Not looking good after RTS takes Out Young 2m out.
But RTS one leaving the field.
CHT puts ball down again in tackle going between 2 players.
Rooster make a break but Tupou Throws ball out with some back and forward passes.
Egan taken high, first point in the throat, start on their 35m.
Rooster allowed to be offside on goal-line like Manly. Pompey held up and take out, RTS might have got that with his speed.
RTS done a hammy.
Rooster again pass it out on our 35m. No one wants to win this one.
CNK Not getting up, holding neck, looks crusher, but dont get this one.
CHT chips for himself 15m out regather over Teddy and scores.

8-6 67mins conversion missed (need those ones)

Not Good when CNK makes top of the VB hard man list. Where are the forwards?

Called Teddy touched the ball as he guides it dead off Metcalfe kick, challenging it.
Unsuccessful, touches him when he out.
What a blessing to have a big centre in Leiataua, who smashes through to score when Tuaupiki open. Nice hands by CNK.

14-6 71mins

Roosters get the short kickoff and get it back.
Roosters knock it on again 20m out.
No knock On by Roosters in tackle?
Young makes a break, kicks over CNK who holds his ground jumping for kick and Young runs into him and ball goes out. Young down
Hoping for some interference, but all clear.
Young up.
Rooster kick played at 6 more on their 30m.
JFH not allowed to play the ball and Roosters penalised. Tap and go very slowly though.

FULLTIME 14-6

I'm all in on the RTS to fullback call now. CNK tries hard but he's lost a yard, carries as hard as he can but just offers nothing dynamically
And their goes RTS Hammy.
CNK won't be changed, to much effort and as Webster said before the game he is important in the defensive structure with getting the numbers right.

Great summary and analysis.

One set of words missing is "errors by opposition", seems to be critical.

The only threat in attack are Tuaupiki and Leiataua. Egan from dummy half and RTS out wide and second level threat.

Yeah you're right, he won't...and I didn't pick a very good week to say that when he ran for 314m. His effort was immense last night.

But when our halves struggle to conjure up any attack weaponry and Wayde is a distributor/occasional runner, I really feel like we could do with the extra attacking spark from the back. CNK isn't that. However, Roger is now injured, CNK was huge last night effort wise and if he's important with defensive structure, then he did a good job.
