This weekends round should be interesting for the top 5. Joonalup are playin Rockingham, Central are playin South Perth & Freo are playin Willagee.

If Joondalup Win and Central lose Joondalup will finish the year in 4th spot with Freo in 5th. If Central win and Joondalup lose Central will finish in 4th spot with Freo in 5th. If Both Central and Joondalup win or lose they will have to play a mid week play off for 5th spot!!!

The WARL should get with the times, why would you play a mid week game for a play off?The NRL runs with the better for and against so why should'nt the WARL? They run under the same rules.I would like to think thst clubs playing semi final football would like to be fresh for the weekend.:crazy:

Yeah. Seems kinda silly and pointless in this day and age, doesn't it?

If my memory serves me correctly, Kalgoorlie had to play a mid-week game in Perth either last year or the year before to qualify for the finals. That isn't fair to make them do that.

South Perth Easily Into Grand Final
South Perth Lions easily won their way through to the Grand Final and were too good for Rockingham Sharks blitzing them 80 to 4. They looked fresh after the weeks break and will be hard to stop in the Grand Final. They have proved a well drilled side losing only one game in the regular season.
South Perth came out in the first half determined to go straight through to the Grand Final and did it convincingly. They built slowly but with purpose and it was a 90 run by Carlin Millar at the 35 minute mark which started a flurry of points just before half time. It was followed by a 60 metre try by John Crawford and then another quick break resulting in the second try for Dave Sainty which blew the score out to a 36 to 4 half time lead.
Until he was taken off with injury early in the second half Sainty was the best for the Lions in what was a very even team effort. Michael Guthrie finished with 22 points.
In the first semi final North Beach Sea Eagles took Fremantle Roosters apart with a convincing 60 to 10 win. The Sea Eagles made their mark in the first ten minutes going to a 16 nil lead before the Roosters were able to settle. Shortly after Fremantle posted their first score and got the score back to 16 – 6, but the rest of the first half was controlled by the Sea Eagles highlighted by a 60 metre run by Tyron Cranston who scored under the posts just before half time.
The second half saw the Sea Eagles run out a tame finish as the Roosters were unable to threaten. It was disappointing for the Roosters who had finished strongly in the second half of the year. Multiple try scorers for the Sea Eagles included best player Marcus Carney, Ben Dickson and Luke Walker, with Tyron Cranston putting in another good game with a total 16 points for the game.
Next week will see North Beach take on Rockingham at Charles Riley Reserve in North Beach in the Preliminary Final with the winner going through to the Grand Final to meet South Perth.

Whatever way you look at those results, a combined semi finals score of 140-14 is not good for the game.

Good for the winners of course, but 1st beating 3rd by 80pts in a Semi Final is very ordinary.

BRONCOS WIN COLTS PREMIERSHIP
The Northern Broncos are the 2008 ‘W.A Reds’ Colts Premiers after defeating the Western Eels in an outstanding Grand Final on Friday evening at George Burnett Field.

The match provided a fitting end to the inaugural season of the Colts competition with both sides displaying a high level of skill and a passion that you only see in this age group of up and coming young stars.

The Western Eels opened the scoring through a try in the corner to Jake Busby after some great lead-up work by Tyron Cranston to lead 4 – 0 before the Broncos hit back with a try to rampaging front-rower Phil Dvorak. With the scores locked at 4-4 the game was providing the spectators with some great entertainment as the ball travelled from end to end through some great attacking moves by both sides. The Eels broke the dead-lock with a try from James Brooks who barged over from a few metres out. The conversion was successful and the Eels lead by 10 – 4.

Although trailing the Broncos were looking dangerous in attack and David Kingi in particular was bending the Eels defensive line with every hit-up. The Broncos piled on the pressure over the later stages of the first half and with tries to Travis Rhind and Kingi they went into the break with a 14-10 lead.

The second half was dominated by some very physical forward exchanges which suited the larger Broncos pack, and they were able to capitalise on their dominance in the middle of the field with further tries to Ryan Crawford, Codee Pomare and Brandon Parker to open up an unassailable lead over the tiring Eels. The Broncos sealed the Premiership with a second try to David Kingi, who earned the man-of-the-match award for his tireless display in attack and defense. The final score was a 28 – 10 victory to the Broncos.

The game was worthy of its Grand Final status and it was very encouraging to see the passion and determination shown by all players and staff involved. The Colts competition should expand to a minimum of 6 teams next year as 6 of the clubs fielded very strong Under 17’s teams in 2008. The competition looks to have a bright future with the high calibre of players currently progressing through the WARL ranks and the pathways provided through to the W.A Reds.
