WA BEARS

Having just joined, I see a lot of the same names contributing as another couple of threads.

With 276 pages, it’s hard to know when the topic of the WA Bears finished, but, there are no more fanciful suggestions that WA Bears is a still thing is there?

Not atm, when there is a slow news day in the media it might rear its head a few more times until the NRL is ready to actually sit down and talk turkey on the 18th team, hopefully by then the idea of the Government backed Pacifika Covid Bats bid is long gone.

Why is it a bad idea ?, years ago Cronullas head was on the chopping block and everybody wanted to shaft them over to WA, people still suggest it.
If expansion happens it is probably one of the strongest options available.
Because the people of Perth don’t want a reject Sydney Club. Putting a failed club in a new market is hardly a recipe for success.

The Bears were hardly a failed club, look at our last 10 years in the NRL, the Bears were one of the more consistent finals teams during the 90’s, let’s not forget the NRL didn’t give out handouts to struggling clubs back then as they did the Sharks, the Knights, the Dragons, the Titans from 2010 onwards.
The Sharks certainly ain’t no powerhouse and weren’t they full of pep tides when they won their maiden Grand Final ?.

Move on mate, you've had close to 30 years now to get behind a new team ffs.

But they did fail. The didn't make the criteria then couldn't even manage to stay apart of a merger. What would they offer Perth? Any perth bid could align themselves with any BRL club to fill the junior gaps in the immediate time. Or even a regional area.
