Yeah - I've been absolutely stunned at how watertight the process has been outside of Perth Bears & PNG - but if I was any other bidder I'd be happy with those two bids getting all the media coverage.. and just keep my head down while they deal with so much public scrutiny.

I absolutely hope that once the 3 expansion teams are decided, we get a clearer picture of what the full field looked like.

The options not taken will be really interesting to see.

Pick a place, there's a bid from there.

Great, they can spend the $50mill it will cost to start it up then The wa consortium can buy the license in a few years for the $30mill they wanted to spend lol

Lol, WA consortium don't get close to having that kind of money. They were begging basketball teams on east coast for funds!!

Manly was allegedly $18million.

broncos are an established brand who happen to be the biggest most profitable , by a country mile, of any Rl club in the world. They are an anomaly.

we can only go on facts, and the facts we have to date is that no nrl club license has been bought or even offered, more than $20million. To think a new start up club is worth $50mill has no basis in reality.
The manly bid was upped from 18 million by Qatari investors who also would’ve built them a new ground

no they are not. If one of the games most established top earning clubs was valued at $45mill last year what on earth makes you think a new start up with all the risks attached to any new start up would be worth anywhere near $50mill? It’s ludicrous

we are talking nrl license value not how much a clubs pokie Den would cost to buy. Clubs where licenses have sold have gone for nothing like the money delusional fools on here think it’s worth, even given some of them were a few years ago.

2017 knights and titans sold for $2mill
2018 nz warriors sold for $16mill
2018 50% Dragons sold for $10mill
2019 manly turn down $18mill offer
2023 souths book value $45mill

The pokie dens as you call them own the clubs though. Their assets can be sold off if the club fails into financial ruin but most importantly they have them due to the history of their work in the game

Like here is when the Dragons sold that 50% bid

So the assets of St George District club most certainly count in this

Regardless a minimum $20m licence fee seems fair enough

WIN didn’t buy 50% of St George pokie den. They bought half the ownership of the St George illwarra nrl club. They are different companies.

if it was an established club sure, $20mill is probably the bottom end of a succesful club making a annual profit.
But when you’ve got to spend $30mill+ building The club, and knowing the first years are probably going to be tough going, then another $20mill on top is simply not a good investment.

be honest if the nrl had started this process with a statement that they want to see $30mill start up investment and a $20mill license fee, how many submissions do you think they would have actually got?

Ben Ikin interview link mentioning Central QLD at the beginning of the discussion…. no other details though ..
Completely agree with Ikin here.

Ipswich is a no brainer. Population is booming, RL is absolutely dominant out that way and the club could be ready to go straight away. Interesting that he mentioned Ipswich Jets, Toowoomba Clydesdales and Easts Tigers as feeder clubs for the Western Corridor team. He claims to have not seen the bids, but I can't imagine for one second that the CEO of the QRL has not run his eye over any Queensland bids.

Brooks bought 25 percent of south’s for 20 million dollars so an implied valuation of 80 million
lol, did you read it?

Tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes has bought a significant chunk of the South Sydney Rabbitohs but exactly how much money he paid for it remains unknown.

The founder of Atlassian, who is worth an estimated $26billion, now owns a 25 per cent share in the famous NRL club, but he has kept the price tag a secret.

meanwhile

Rabbitohs now worth a hefty $46m

The James Packer, Russell Crowe and Mike Cannon-Brookes-owned South Sydney Rabbitohs have a new valuation for their rugby league club of almost $46m.

“According to the Daily Telegraph, fellow high profile part owners - media mogul James Packer and Hollywood actor Russell Crowe - were set to receive $10 million each following the recent injection from Cannon-Brooke”

Remember when you said Perth was going to make millions on game day, corporates & membership?! Completely changes depending on how wind blows!!

Western corridor was jets if I remember?! Jets then merged with bombers. Most recently Ipswich & Newtown are combined.
Easts Tigers & Central Qld have also bid.

And the fact is sentences start with capital letters.

NSWRL and QRL have stakes in the game too, Neither has a value as an NRL club. So the whole club assets count.

So then they can't afford an NRL club, It sucks but they are competing against clubs who have had structures in place for 50-100 years.

Broncos are a publicly listed club with the backing of a billion dollar company in News Limited. That is the reality of what they are competing against.

That $20m start up fee, They will make back in 10 years due to the extra club grants via to increased revenue.

Which as an equal partner they should get after the initial buy in.

The reason Warriors, Newcastle and Titans are on the above list of recent sales is private ownership failures...

If the Expansion fee scares off potential failures then it is a good thing for the game

That is for 25% of the club. Fans own 25%.

puts the NRL club at $80m, Then whatever the total of the assets are...

Compare that to the unnamed backers out West.

They’re not spending $20mill, they’d need to spend $50mill. They might get their money back in around 2055 lol.
like I said investment groups aren’t exactly knocking down the nrls door to own a new license. Put a $50mill price tag on it and they’d have no one other than a pokie backed bid, maybe.
