WA BEARS

NRLWA is the NRL so they cant own it. Sadly when we lost the independent WARL we lost that opportunity.

yes very pleased with that, after decades of NRL neglecting grass roots funding to WA I'm glad the WA govt is going to hold them accountable and expect a partnership approach to grassroots funding.

Set up costs were estimated by the Western Bears bid to be in the region of $10-15mill before season kick off.

Just had a text from my inside source and still a few hurdles to overcome but the meeting was very positive and both parties are very comfortable with where it has landed. The Premier has insisted the club be WA based, WA run and will eventually look to go to a membership owned model once established. NRL will be hands off other than oversight and appointing the initial board and providing the start up grant funding.

Sounds like we ended up with a win-win and the Rugby league over here is going to benefit enormously. Fingers crossed there's no last minute glitches.
Sounds promising. did anyone guess or inform this previously?

Any rough idea of what’s next now?

yeah thats true forgot about the draw release. thats at 11am isn't it? wondering if the serial touted "soft draw" teams will get another season of "soft draw". hopefully theres another port macquarie game too in 2025. this year was a blast.
Penrith always gets the soft draw,
....they are all beneath us

Best part was the Allianz home game and a "trial" at NSO, not the NSO home game

This jersey isn’t too shabby
Just add a teltra premiership logo to it, and we're done...
BTW, since there was no mention of the "licence fee"
I assume the ARLC will be distributing a similar amount to pass those votes in perfs favor, coz going off the released articles, there is once again "zero" going back to the rest of the clubs, and all plans and coin heading towards perfs infrastructure via thier WA govt (which is all good)
BUTT, again what's in it for the remainder of the NRL clubs?

It will be interesting how they handle that game. Will they play the same team every year and try and build an 'event game'. Souths would be a good choice given they don't play in moore park often.

Hopefully Western gets the punt. West Coast Bears or Perth Bears are better choices. Cook would probably want Perth.

West Coast Bears for mine, that would REALLY take it to the AFL for brand recognition, who do you support, West Coast!
...Bears or Eagles? BOTH!!

anymore hot tips red black bear? looking back on your posts in this thread, you have been pretty spot on every time.

can you give me this weeks esl tips? my punting has been shitty lately.

again to you bears fans, congrats I really hope this sticks the landing. I know there’s more work to be done before it’s official but this is as close to exhuming the corpse of nrl bears as it’s been ever I think.

I feel Perth Bears is the best option.

This new club should come in and own the “Perth” branding in the WA winter sporting landscape.
WA is the whole state tho, and they can represent it all, by calling it Western or west coast, by calling it Perth, it will alienate those on the outskirts or in places like Broome etc

For west aussie bears I like just the simple wa bears as in Western Australia bears. I see Perth bears as good choice too though.

west coast suits as well I guess but it’s straight rip off eagles afl. however locals know best here, whatever suits goes I’m happy with their selection. I googled Perth bears before and it looks like some sort of hair man gay bar. Is that why some people here like it?

again congrats to all the wa leaguie fans here on getting a team again. it’s almost there cob

West Coast pirates is the lower grade team, which could feed into the west coast bears franchise

While I’m not 100% against the names “WA” or “Western Australia” I feel it makes the club sound like a representative team.

Pre-1995, the Brisbane Broncos had support all across the state of QLD. I don’t see why that can’t be the case for the Perth Bears right across WA.

I prefer it, so that the sponsorship doesn’t f**k with the design / stripes
Can even change the red to yellow for an alternate(WA) strip and not be too different
Point taken. Still too much white for a red and black team for me.

I have said an NRL funded model is the way to go for months, and should be for all non-RL area expansions.

Funnily enough PVL fanboys have long laughed at this situation for Aussie Rules in Western Sydney, but will now want to tongue punch Pete's fartbox about copying the model.

Oh ye of little faith ;) Fantastic news. It's a fait accompli now and I will get a membership, all the way from the real South Wales, for Christmas if they're available.

What I think scuppered the '10/10' bid was how much the PNG secured and it opened the NRL's eyes to whether they are selling themselves short with the other bids.

Is there a categorical list of extras which has been attained by holding out from accepting the original bid?
