Last time the Western Reds were in the competition the airfares nearly sent them broke, maybe the games in NSW could offset that ?. I wonder what plans they have to offset that problem this time ?.
I remember hearing somewhere that the Reds paid for opposition teams to fly over, is this true ?.

I explained to you earlier that Cowboys and Reds had to cover the flight and accommodation costs for visiting teams who travelled to Townsville in both the ARL A Grade and Reserve Grade competitions. The Sydney clubs were either too broke to afford a flight to Townsville and Perth or they ripped off the new clubs because that's what cockroaches do.

The broadcast deal provides enough money to cover flight and accommodation for all clubs. Today we get about $400 million a year from Ch9 and Foxtel. Back in 1995 our game received just $10 million in broadcast rights from Packer.

it wasnt actually the two sides that crippled the reds, Puddy reckons they had that covered in the busines plan, it was the last minute addition of a third side in the U20’s that created the problem for wa. That was never budgeted for and they knew theyd be in trouble having to cover both our own and visitng teams costs for a third side. They wanted ARL to delay it but they went ahead anyway. It was a big reason they were pssed at the ARL And jumped ship.

WA are not beggars, without the bears we still present a very compelling and competitive case for inclusion. Bears on the other hand Havent a cat in hells chance without partnering with someone.

The WA consortium should offer norths one game a year wherever they want to play it and a shirt sleeve sponsorship for the LC for $1mill a year. Guarantee any brand changes are done with agreement and formalise a development partnership for the north Sydney jnr and reserve grade, everything else is WA controlled. That’s what I’d be putting on the table if I was the Perth bid. Bears keep mentioning swans, I’d be happy with the same scenario as swans ended up.

Can the NRL give the same leniency to The Bears? or should they play them in Sydney more than what they do the Cowboys?

Ideally a WA team would never play warriors, cowboys, Newcastle away or dolphins on Sunshine Coast to help reduce travel demands. Sydney, brisbane, canberra, Melbourne all direct flights from perth so not so bad.

COVID-19 forced the competition to relocate to Queensland for much of last year.

Cowboys had bugger all possession and had to defend their line non-stop for a 15 minute period, yet they still managed to hold Penrith out. Any other team in the competition would have cracked under so much pressure against the best side assembled in years. The amount of defence the Cowboys had to do during this period zapped them of energy and killed any chance they had of competing. From that point on their line speed was shot and their forwards had nothing left in the tank with ball in hand. Once the fatigue factor crept in Penrith were always going to be one step ahead of them for the rest of the match, which led to handling errors piling up as the fresher legs of the Panthers allowed them to jam up and in to shut down any ball movement before it got to the flanks.

Penrith were near perfect with ball in hand and their up and in defence was rock solid. No team in the competition was going to beat them tonight.

Cowboys still made two or three line breaks and came close to scoring a couple of times.

It didn't help not having Taumalolo and Feldt. Cowboys lost Gilbert for a large chunk of the first half with a hip injury, which buggered their forward rotation. Let's see how your mob go against them. I recall your mob getting beat up by the Broncos at Lang Park, Storm in Melbourne and touched up by the Raiders. Cowboys beat those teams convincingly.

Surely the NRL has a deal with an airline? They can arrange direct flights to anywhere. With players, family, officials, board members and some fans the flight would be full. Not hard.

All the excuses in the world, yes cowboys were good defensively, but slippery conditions in the foot of the mountains, means they couldn't hold the ball long enough to attack... cowboys should be top4 this year, roosters, manly and souths have dropped out of contention, it will be brisbane, storm, cows and riff,... a maybe cronulla... either way grotd wasn't going to see the cows do any attack even with talmololololo and felt

Yeh when the 2013 expansion didn’t happen they abandoned it and roosters moved in.
