Rothfield said the wa govt met with vlandys and a couple of clubs. I took it to mean representatives of the roosters and south’s were there to hear about a Perth nrl bid
Given that Magic Round was in Brisbane, I took it as they were potentially talking to Brisbane Tigers and Ipswich Jets, two second tier Brisbane clubs with NRL ambitions. The Tigers would be a good fit as they can't use the Tiger in the NRL so WA would get the RL club partnership, the Easts juniors and the freedom to use the Pirates or Reds logo.

Easts are a great club but unlikely to get into the NRL unless they buy into the Broncos or jump on board with an expansion bid. Redcliffe beat them out not only on finances but on the NRL criteria of not overlapping with the Broncos territory. Ipswich will be the fourth SEQ team if / when the time comes because they cover that all important Western Corridor.

Yeh a Pirates/Reds link up with the tigers would be a good way to tick the player development box.

I've always seen Ipswich as Broncos territory. Not sure how Easts Tigers overlap but Redcliffe or Ipswich don't?

I guess if Ipswich get their stadium then they won’t be competing with broncos for fans and corporates so much as tigers who would be very much a city club playing at Suncorp. Same with Redcliffe, outer rim club competing less with the city broncos. Hence why news ltd chose their bid, oops sorry meant nrl lol.

Their is no way the QLD Govt fund a $200M+ stadium in the western Brisbane Corridor, with Suncorp so close and underutilised currently.

Easts don't overlap with Broncos or Titans any more than Jets and Dolphins overlap with Broncos. It's all about News Ltd wanting the least threatening bid.

The problem is the ARLC is run by hypocrites and idiots from Sydney who have one rule for Sydney and another for everyone else. They want to have nine clubs from Sydney that represent small pockets, but refuse to allow Brisbane to have "Redcliffe". They won't make Manly rebrand to represent Northern Beaches and Central Coast, but forced Redcliffe to become The Dolphins and embrace Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast. There is no fairness in the NRL. Just an unwritten rule that every decision is based on the continuation of an NSWRL competition that's national in name only and mollycoddles financially unviable Sydney clubs that provide little value to our broadcasters and sponsors due to their tiny fanbases.

This thread was saturated at the start with posts from narrow-minded morons from Sydney talking up this absurd "WA Bears" idea as if it was the second coming of Christ. It turns out the whole story was a beat up from News Ltd. We cannot blame News Ltd for the state of the game when their agenda line up precisely with what Sydney RL fans want.

Why not both? Nrl,earns money from tv, clubs could earn more. money for bums on seats. either we stop worrying about crowds and nrl needs to up club grants for a bigger share of tv revenue or we need to find a happy balance So clubs can earn more from a bigger active fanbase.
Because

Those fans who go to games are the same ones who watch games on TV

You're competing with yourself

You have seen the impact of AFL as it transformed into a TV product

Broncos sold themselves as representing Brisbane combined

That team would play regional rep games against teams like Ipswich

I thought the The Dolphins name was solely decided by the club, and have seen nothing to suggest otherwise.

There is no metric that Brisbane Easts deserve entry into the NRL over the Dolphins.
NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo also defended the decision which he indicated the governing body was involved in making.

“It’s important for us that we have a say in this because this is about the growth of the game,” he said.

“Historically it’s been a decision made by the club but for us it made sense for them to be the Dolphins because we’re talking here about not just the Brisbane area but north of Brisbane, we’re talking about Moreton Bay, the Sunshine Coast.

Easts Tigers represent southern Brisbane and Logan with junior clubs from Bulimba in Brisbane's east to Flagstone and Yarrabilba in Logan's outer southeast. There's no NRL club on the southern side of metropolitan Brisbane. Now there's two on the northern side.

Brisbane Lions are based about 3 km away from Easts Tigers and have a social club filled with 200 pokies in Logan's northeastern suburb Springwood. Easts cover all of this territory and would have been better suited to weaken the Lions.

PVL said the reason for Brisbane 2 was to keep rugby league strong in Brisbane because it was facing competition from AFL. His administration took the coward's way out and admitted a team that's based 40km away from the only AFL team in Brisbane. If I was the Lions I would be happy Redcliffe was admitted ahead of Easts.

Ipswich Jets joined the BRL in 1986 and their players were eligible for Combined Brisbane in the National Knock-Out Competition.

Jets joined in 82.

The specific geographical location of a teams Leagues Club is irrelevant to its long term supporter base.

And certainly a teams Leagues club proximity to an AFL club one shouldn't be a factor in anyway.

Logan is not some hotbed of Brisbane Easts supporters, and concept of a juniors catchment is a Sydney concept is definitely not something we do here in QLD

Why not ? The population in both western and northern coridoors justifies it

travelling to Suncorp for both teams isn’t ideal

30k stadiums will be perfect for both

Suncorp itself is dated now

a rebuild with greater capacity wouldn’t hurt

Your crappy English club got its stadium and land around cheap from council. And that’s ownership of the land transferred cheaply

nsw is just spending money on stadia it owns and which it makes rent and other revenue from and also got to keep the nrl grand final which beings in tourist revenue and is a source of pride for the state

im sure our clubs who love to be sold their stadia cheaply like yours was

10k extra people watching a game on tv makes little difference, 10k extra bums on seats makes massive difference to a clubs bottom line.

bought for Market value apparently. Which wouldn’t be much off Preston road lol. nsw stadium strategy is so Sydney lol, still no decent national stadium, a 40k stadium that suits no one and half the clubs still left playing out of sub standard or inappropriate stadia . Might have taken perth 20 years to decide where to build a stadium but at least they got it right When they built it.

Homebush is fine. Like I said elsewhere it’s a carbon copy of Englands national stadium

the extra capacity at Allianz is due too the scg trust and politics. Ideally they should’ve knocked down homebush and made Allianz a brand new 70k stadium

Hbf park currently is dated and a poor facility overall

Perth has one good ground Sydney will have comm bank Penrith brookvale Allianz and accor
and yeh a stadium and an acre of land even in a dump is still worth a lot. It would be like parra getting commbank for 10 ten million

Sydney is getting close to 2 billion dollars in new stadia spent on it which is double what wa has spent

But those 10k bums on seats have got used to being at home watching games on TV due to covid, especially after they invested in their new 75 inch tv"s

Suncorp is drastically under used, it could easily accommodate 3 NRL clubs.

bs, WA has spent: Optus stadium $1.6bill, perth areana $550mill, hbf park $165mill. All in a city 60% the size of Sydney lol.

your strategy was sht, no national stadium, sfs too big for its tennants and still half the clubs playing in dumps or stadiums that look embarrassing because they are 75% empty.

another $100mill on hbf and it will be perfect for our rectangular sports clubs needs. Hopefully thats part of the govt’s committment to support a perth nrl club.
