I like the shot across the bow of Seven which is no doubt just a happy by product of this move .., probably won’t make them start liking the Bears anytime soon …. But I doubt that was going to happen anyway …

Know nothing about the dude apart from what I have read in the past hour ..risky move but I’m assuming someone who knows the Perth Market at least…

Doubt he would have come cheap …

need a good Football Manager now

Reading that he doesn’t mind the cameras which will be a good thing to have someone with profile for the club. sounds like he’s looking for better work life balance with his young kids. can see why Vlandys was having g dinner with Stokes now in Perth, Probably the final reference check!

you don’t think Stokes was negotiating a stand alone bid for the Origin rights?

You gotta laugh;

Apparently Bears Perth is a social club for gay men in WA with a registered name and website.

The name has been causing some confusion (and very likely consternation) amongst North Sydney Bears fans with one who played with the club 50 years ago contacting them about a membership.

The club has reported they have been deluged with membership requests since the Perth Bears announcement last week.

Several months back, prior to Western Bears being announced as the official name for the now-failed bid, I googled all the various potential names, just in case a local, say, hockey team or baseball team or whatever, we're already called Perth / Western / WA / West Coast Bears, ect, and in my search, I discovered this version of Perth Bears (I swear!) and I quietly hoped Perth Bears would be avoided as a name for the NRL team for this reason. Western Bears was announced and I breathed a sigh of relief.
But... here we are.

Perhaps we could use this to our advantage. Have the large whatever-community-this-kind-of-bears-represents on board and supporting our NRL team. Might make Manly's anti-rainbow brigade uncomfortable / distracted when they play over here too..!

When the Bears play Manly at HBF Park, just tell them this is our clubhouse, and tell them not to forget to wear their pride jerseys lol.

NRL expansion club will boast fans both sides of the Nullarbor

New Perth Bears CEO Anthony De Ceglie visited the spiritual home of the club when he took his family to a game at North Sydney Oval on Sunday, declaring the new franchise is set up to be a winner.

Kevin Walters has met with the NRL commission in relation to the Western Bears coaching role.
Two parochial fan bases on opposite sides of the country will deliver the Perth Bears a unique place in Australian sport, according to the CEO whose shock appointment was announced last week.
Anthony De Ceglie, new boss of the expansion club that will enter the NRL in 2027, was with his family at North Sydney Oval on Sunday as the yet-to-be-transplanted Bears took on the Dragons in the NSW Cup.
“I’m super excited,” said the former Seven News Media executive, originally from Western Australia.

“Perth people love their sport and they’re incredibly proud. North Sydney Bears fans are as well. The possibility of bringing these two very parochial supporter bases together will set us apart, and set us up for success.”
De Ceglie produced an NRL-quality sidestep as he declined to comment on his departure from Seven West Media, exit discussions with former boss Kerry Stokes, or the interest in his move from an AFL rights holder to a rival sport.
But he agreed with ARL Commission Chairman Peter V’landys that local knowledge of the Perth market will be an advantage he brings to the club.

“Perth can be like a foreign country to a lot of people,” he added. “It’s very isolated, it runs by its own rules sometimes and its people are parochial. But they’re also loving and passionate.”
North Sydney CEO Gareth Holmes said reaction to the Bears returning to the NRL via Perth had been overwhelming.
“Our bolted-on fans have waited 26 years,” he said. “They’ve kept the faith, kept this club relevant. They’ll go across the Nullarbor in droves to follow the Bears in Perth.”

If they don't move to Allianz, then they may go elsewhere.

Souths have been playing 8-10 games in Sydney for a while and selling/moving the rest. I can see them going with 10 in Sydney next year if they get Allianz then moving 2 home games. If the Allianz move doesn’t happen probably more like 3-4 games moved.

Where they move them who knows but Adelaide would be good, or NZ.

Allianz is a modern facility, Souths don't need to move home games to Adelaide or NZ. Only home game to move is the Good Friday game against the Dogs every second year.

The reason why Souths were selling home games to Perth is because they haven't been happy with Accor for a long time. The RWC final will be hosted at Accor in '27. The last time Accor hosted the RWC final was in '03. The stadium is still the same today as it was back in 2003.
