WA BEARS

to be perfectly frank I wouldn`t trust them if they got on the board to agitate with perhaps a long-term plan of getting the whole thing back to the central coast.
This is a a fear founded in absolutely 0. Just repeated over and over by people who have no idea.

- says he has a meeting with one of the bid teams “ to change their model”.. wonder what that means?

Listening to the actual audio it sounds like the WA consortium may have stuffed it up and the ARLC need to change it.

The issue with having the Bears as your partner … they would screw you over in a heartbeat and justify it by saying the same thing happened to them .. not saying it’s right or wrong … just the way it is
This is based on absolutely nothing. Less than nothing to be real. I’m sick of reading these unsubstantiated fears as if they are hard fact. When in reality the Bears have always done what’s best for the overall game.

It either is a big issue, or PVL is an idiot
Or you’re the idiot (going off all your post)

That`s ludicrous. The people putting money into this aren`t just going to be saying " oh yeah sure we`ll put in a couple of mill" they`d have to be providing evidence, assets and backing as well.
This problem obviously runs deeper than that and the idea that Norths are going to put their assets on the block for what could be a risky venture strikes me as unlikely.
To be fair you’ve never been a reliable expert on the topic anyway. So what strikes you as unlikely is irrelevant.

PVL was saying the WA bid was 10/10 only a few weeks ago ....

Excellent summation

Hmmm from 10/10 to falling short. Not sure how you can justify that change in stance.

Is this a squeeze on the WA state government or the tv channels?

Has Albo demanded PNG as 18th team?

What was in the bid is key. It will get sorted

The vlandys interview on 2Gb yesterday is just weird. What he said

"Weve looked at the bids this week"
"Disappointing in their business case except PNG" he then goes on to waffle about kids in school again, like whats that got to do with the business case? Was social impact part of the criteria?
"we're not goign to take it to the other clubs, they were very disappointing to say the least"
"PNG only bid they could take to the clubs'
"we may look at a completely different model"
"we have a discussion with one of the bid teams this afternoon about a completely different model and a new way of doing it"

Listening to it sober Im more convinced the NRL has no intentions of going beyond 18 clubs and PNG, if thats being driven by the other clubs or by the NRL or by Tv who knows?

The problem is obvious.

Being forced into a partnership with a club that hasn't been in existence for 20 years doesn't appeal to anyone, especially if that club is a failed entity like Norths.

The bears logo is the best thing Norths can offer which is pretty f**king lame.

WA/Perth are better off going it alone.

Perth can't go alone yet. They have junior pathways or anything, They go alone it delays their entry by atleast 5 years

Both, There is only a limited amount of money to go around. 20 teams by 2032 seemed very rushed

If it doesnt happen now Cumins and Cook will walk away. Then good luck finding the money here in the future. Vlandys is playing a very high stakes game for RL in the West and a chance of a National competition. He better not screw this up!

Cumins was reluctant to publicly show interest and spend time and money bidding, I said at the time they've been burnt by NRL administration before, once burnt twice shy. Looks like he might have been right to have been reticent

what COULD be going on:

1. The bids havent shown enough financial investment to make the ARLC happy. Cumins has said they have raised the $30mill needed. Maybe the ARLC want more from the WA govt? Where does that leave NZ2?
2. The other NRL clubs have said they want more money to say yes to expansion and the ARLC have now decided there has to be a large license fee. If that is it then it is amateur hour by the ARLC not to have had that in the criteria for bidding.
3. There was never any intention to go to 20 clubs now and the aim was to get Aus Govt to stump up more for PNG all along and the bidding was sham to achieve that goal.
4. Its just cage rattling to get more money from the WA govt for the game in the West (this is just about the best scenario!)

I hope we hear from the WA consortium today to find out there take on it.

I’m glad to avoid outrage you have specified these posts are your OPINION only and may not be the facts …

In relation to 3 …what’s the hurry from the NRL to get PNG into the comp by conning Albo ? Even with the money they get … they won’t finish to far in front with all the extra costs and headaches PNG will bring

Different model is about the composition of the board and or bears minority ownership

Red and black bear literally posted about the arlc wanting a rep on the board before any of this was raised in the media

I did mention this last night …

I was going to say the clubs might be driving this … but this 20 team idea has been around over a year now

I fear the alcohol has done unrepairable damage to your brain if that’s the case.

Joining with Norths isn't going to help that.

What the NRL is doing with this forced partnership is half arsed expansion. And doing anything half arsed doesn't work.

Expansion takes risk and patience.
Melbourne was a risk and it's paid off (and they can thank Craig Bellamy and his recruitment team for that).

If the NRL aren't prepared to take that risk and have patience then don't do it all and don't waste people's time. And that includes bears fans and WA league fans.

That said, PNG is arisk albeit mitigated by being propped up by $600mill of government money.

The fear about not going to 20 teams in unfounded.

PVL mentions getting to 20 teams in the linked triple M interview after he mentioned the bids have been disappointing.

I

News Ltd which owned the game at that stage also owned Storm… they won a prem long before Bellamy got there.

But you are 100% correct. It takes risk & patience that’s the undeniable truth.
