Did the Dolphins pay a licensing fee?
No club has ever paid a licensing fee before. Nearest is the sale of Knights and Titans licenses after they went bust that both went for a couple of mill.

This looks a classic case of the tail wagging the dog and either NRL trying to cover future gambling revenue losses or clubs with the begging bowls out wanting the new club to give them money. Could you imagine any other business where a new start up in that business is expected to fund its competitors?

The good news is that we will eventually get past this as the competition grows and the one-city or region clubs outnumber the bones-of-their-arse clubs that are threatened by expansion.

It was really unfortunate that the WA bid wasn't given more time! PVD knows that pay day loan repayments don't fall due until the end of the month, so of course the finances fell short.. like drr !

Just to recap:
Three spots available,
one licensee providing a guaranteed $600 million,
the remaining two are still expected to fork up $60 million.

* $30m bid licence has been raised but it’s now pushed up to $50-$60m. Western Bears working on securing further money for it.

* PVL statements aimed at WA Government. They crowed off too early with 2027 at the Phins vs. Roosters game. Now that’s being used as leverage to get more cash out of them.

* Western Bears business model is conservative. It seemingly needs to be more risk for more reward. Conservative won’t cut it. More investment is required and the promise of further investment as documented in bid needs to be translated into guarantees.

* Clear pathway shown. All parties working on achieving said goals.

* 2027 entry could be pushed out to 2028/2029 if Western Bears cannot resolve the issues stated by PVL in a timely (quickly as possible) manner. PVL and ARLC want it to work though and are said to be big fans of this to come to fruition.

* Ball squarely in Western Bears and WA Government court now. Movement on acquiring required additional funds and investment already in progress.

That’s all I know. No genuine in depth info, wasn’t shared.

Getting guarantees for promised future investment is a smart way to go

Good on pvl for using the situation to get an extra 20 to 30 million

So now all of a sudden at the last minute PVL is asking WA government to provide 30-60 million fee when they admitted a team less than 5 years ago for $0 ....

yep, only in rugba league
If they were asking for more investment in jnrs or facilities for the new club or the game in that area that would be a positive thing, a cash grab for the NRL and other clubs like this stinks.

Yep from the sounds of it PVL is just calling the WA Govt’s bluff, the NRL just want more money from them and a guarantee that HBF Stadiums capacity will be lifted to 30,000 by the time the Western Bears enter the NRL.
Roger Cook was good behind the microphone at the Dolphins v Roosters game, V’Landys is now testing if it was all cap or not ?.

I think a fee is a dumb idea, and the people who suggested it, should feel dumb

BUT Given the clubs get a $14M grant from the NRL, annually

Wouldnt they just say, we dont pay you a grant for 4 years?

It would be f**king STOOOPID to ask them for $60M than turn around a day later and hand them $14M.

I think it's done, it's over. PNG will be team 18 and we'll probably stay at 18 for a decade.
If it were PNG, they would have just announced it before he even bothered to say those other things. It so happens that PNG fall short on every single metric including financially because after that money is gone, they will be relying on the support of the disposable income of a 3rd world country.

Apparently their national comp teams fly to play each other. That would be some coin there, So it is there just needs directing to the right place
