WA BEARS

eh? Its not like Perth wont be signing the best jnr talent they can from everywhere, same as everyone else. What it will also be doing though is adding to that talent pool through improvements in WA numbers and elite local pathways. I doubt most clubs have more than 3 or 4 players in their starting 17 that are genuine locals. I can eventually see WA actually bettering that. And it wont need 20k Jnrs or $120mill to do it lol

of course they don't but how many are from the state they play in?

RL schools here like St Pats draw players all over the city. So that build friendships and players change and so

3 or 4 in the top 17 is the opposite than what has been said publicly

But again. It will take money to improve local numbers maybe not the $12m because these things get amended.

It is little things like extra referees. Costs to get schools playing competitively. That with the extra travel costs mean it is going to cost more.

In reality if we get 3-4 WA players in the starting 17 every year that's a great achievement and is on par with most clubs production quota from genuine local Jnrs.
You’ve mentioned shs a few times. Is that the school sports system?

Red & Black Bore was shipping them off to Queensland or Jupiter last month.
They’re already in QLD Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell cup system. Wynnum has 4 WA kids in their system and Souths has 3.

Not reinventing the wheel here. Just getting them exposed to more quality footy. Cheers

Do you have any figures on how much bears juniors / teams fell once they lost their club vs today ?

What kind of numbers could we see once they come back ?

Which is where NS comes into the equation for WA. Id hope we'd be looking at a QRL club as well so we can scout the best jnrs on the East coast and have them stay local whilst coming through our amalgamated systems.
But from a WA perspective, get 7k participants, get elite pathways properly developed and we will be adding to our East coast pool with a decent WA one. Id guess (and dont have the data to back this up) but for most clubs I doubt more than 50% of their starting 20 or so players come from their own systems. everyones buying and letting go players all the time. If I was WA id also have a scouting system in UK looking at the best 15-17 year old kids over there and aim to being a couple a year over into Sg ball to give them a shot. Its a global market.

I agree, which is why Id like to see some sensible proposition from the NRL! '
$2mill from NRL and $2mill from WA govt a year to NRLWA. NRL club to guarantee at least $2mil a year is spent on setting up the elite pathway sides.

That sounds a reasonable ask from all parties wouldn't you agree? Vlad asking for $120mil is as much a pss take as asking $20mil license fee!
Its like NRl is trying to set this up to not happen with their unrealistic requests!

snr high school program we have in WA. Currently 7 schools particpate. WA govt has focused on this for its increased grassroots spending for some reason. Probably easier for them to get it across treasury line as part of a bigger pool of school sport spending I suspect? I believe there is also a scholarship program attached to this that supports regional kids and disadvantaged kids get into better quality metro schools to play rugby league.

There used to be 12 clubs, now there’s 8.

Every age group used to be able to field a full team and some could even double up.

There was a period some clubs age groups didn’t field teams because kids weren’t playing. It’s improved in recent years though. Couldn’t tell you exact numbers sorry. @Centy Coast would be best for that.

To have this argument for the gazillionth time … the PNG current pathways don’t actually produce NRL players …

you don't think $600m will fix any holes?

In getting their national league players and QCup team players into NRL standard?

As I said all the areas mentioned have holes in junior development.

1 area has money to fix it and is 12 months into the plan to do it. That is a huge leg up in comparison to other bids

Isn't the point of the link with the bears to link them up with NSW? Cheers

I think it will work in PNG, sht if that much money cant make it work I dont know what will! They are going to be very reliant on local players in all likelihood so its only way it will work. Whilst they have the numbers, from what Ive seen of some of the conditions kids play in they do need fair bit of spend to get the facilities and basics up to Australian levels. Exciting times for PNG RL if they can get it right.

33 percent fall in terms of clubs shows the picture clearly enough

Throw in 20 years of population growth and it shows the potential

The whole north shore has got flooded with units

Sure a lot of the demographics of Chatswood won’t be league but the whole area has changed from the late 90s

Even the north Sydney skyline has filled out a lot with residential towers

lol .. Yeah … of course…$275m or whatever the figure is of Aust taxpayer money being spent on pathways would hopefully produce results

they need it … because their results to date of producing NRL level players has been poor …even after playing in the QLd cup for 15 years … it is a very small list of players who have stepped up into the NRL

Don’t assume this is just a matter of flipping a switch just because the PNG NRL team gets announced … this will still take a long time to get results after a lot of effort

The Townsville Part of the National Schoolboys comp is 8 teams.

7 for a state shows how far behind it is

WA had 10k players 30 years ago. Get WA numbers up and NS numbers up and player production wont be an issue as long as the clubs invest in the pathways properly. NS will require more funding, if that comes from the Western Bears club or Norths LC is something we dont really know yet. the WB bid had stated the start of it was to fund 4 positions in the NSFC.

How much do you think it would cost to fly all these players?

That is before you even start on the talented kids in Broome
