Why is everything PVL discusses publicly about expansion all through the lens of the Bears?

It's like he doesn't actually give a f**k about anywhere outside Sydney. And everything is just in service of Sydney getting more teams and games.

This is an absolute speed run to ensure this team has no local identity and calls for its relocation back to Sydney will occur within weeks of its founding

Forcing them to pay bribes to the other clubs doesn't do that.

I've said this before, WA need to pay up, no one is handing out free licensing, they aren't deserving of it, they haven't tried to do anything other than park footy, they seriously need to figure out what they can give the NRL other than their presence... which doesn't give the clubs anything.... a zero sum

A 300m stadium development is kinda paying up though. But really, WA doesnt have to do anything. The NRL either actually eants to expand the game in Australia or just the league itself. The Dolphins didnt have to pay a license fee, nor did they have to spend 12m a year on grassroots.

The fact is nz2 was the preferred bidder then png overtook them with govt money

Then the wa govt overtook both with their money

Without such a big govt contribution Perth wouldn’t even be team 20 let alone 18

The wa govt wants the tourism this team generates it doesn’t give two stuffs about nrl

If you’re gonna post here please don’t post conversations that have already taken place and been resolved. Finding a stadium upgrade is not paying up for an NRL licence. See reasons pages back.

Because this has never been about Perth for him. I dont believe for a second he has changed his views of Perth from 2019 and is only entertaining it for the best opportunity of bringing a Sydney club back, and the $ signs from Govt interest.

We had a viable bid willing to put in $30mill to pay for the clubs start up and running and a WA govt willing to spend $400mil+ on infrastructure projects to give the club a great chance of viability and success. We acquiesced to the NRls demand to partner with the Bears. Media was full of us being a shoe in and leap frogging PNG for club 18.

Then something changed. if it was the bid team they didnt like or club demands Im not sure but the license fee looks increasingly like a secondary thought at that amount.

Then the NRl changed direction and has now put a major ask on the WA govt. Again if an insurmountable barrier for them to walk away from Perth and blame others, or if a start point of reasonable negotiations only time will tell.

Dolphins had systems in place and community assets.

What happens to the Perth franchise if 1 or 2 investor want or need to get out?

The fact that none of the 19 stakeholders have came out with opposing views - especially the QRL and NSWRL who had court papers against the NRL.

Yeah imagine the Dolphins with decades long production line of juniors and one of the strongest grassroots infrastructure in the country needing to pay the same as a substandard non rugby league heartland that will require heavy injections of resources to bring it up to speed.

It almost like the Dolphins had all these resources and infrastructure in place with astute rugby league operators behind it prior to being awarded a license and that negated the need to invest more into their catchment.

Almost like Queensland has a state body which already invests into its grass roots. I could be wrong though..

They run bottom 4 there 1st few years ( both expansion teams will be shit for a while )

Like Titans or Newcastle under Tinkler private investment ( Hell add 2 Perth national league sides in Glory and Wildcats that both had a change of ownership )falls through.

Then where does the Perth team sit?

It should be very hard to get into the comp and that side should be sustainable.

Ive said before, Tasmania are desperate for a license after 40 years of being told no and offered the world to get it. WA is not remotely close to that point and probably never will be - they have national representation in the BBL/WBBL, Supernetball, AFL, Super Rugby, NBL and A-league. Tasmania have nothing outside of cricket and the NBL - and the NBL is super recent.

In Tasmania, the AFL are committing money to the stadium, and much more to local football and pathways..

Wa govt approached the nrl for a team

They didn’t do this because they want rugby league to be a “national” sport

They want the tourism from eastern states (especially Sydney) which it currently doesn’t get from afl

You’ve already said they are investing hundreds of millions so clearly they want a team

How much they want a team will be shown shortly when they come up with even more money then initially
