If this is to be believed, then why didnt any of the bidding parties know? You cant just ask people what license fee they WANT to pay. No one will offer something they dont have to.
Peter Beattie told the Cummins consortium twice they had to pay a license fee close to 20 million

Cummins thought by putting zero he could pay a fee of a few million in the wash up

He gambled and lost

WA govt was building that same infrastructure for the club
ns bears were supposed to be the same pathways Redcliffe have
a consortium was going to spend $30million on start up and running costs
Arlc give qrl that money to spend on grassroots

but yeh apart from that your correct lol
Yes and outside Bears pathways what is actually in place right now? Nothing. There’s no assets, the infrastructure hasn’t been built, the start up costs are on the provision of acceptance and it’s not like they have money in the bank as an operating entity.

How is it similar then? Why are you struggling to differentiate Dolphins and WA?

Not yet - still in negotiation.

And it says something to me that every other bid has also failed so far. Except PNG. Something may be wrong with this process.

What negotiation

Cummins looks like he’s out

There are new investors at play

And bids “failing” is pvl getting the bids to come up with more money

Pvl has gone past asking for a license fee he also wants an extra 120 million from the wa govt

They obviously are not ready bids, just ideas, and hopefuls, the png bid had been carefully and slowly building for over 3-4 years now, even without all the money thrown at it, it would've been a well drawn out bid, they even got development teams work out and paid for by the govt early last year to start grooming that next Gen, for when the bid comes to fruition, Andrew Hill has been good for them

Literally the ones still ongoing. Even PVL has said no bid is dead.
You’ve missed the update that was posted previously

The negotiation now isn’t about paying a license fee that’s a given now (new investors are covering)

The big issue is pvl also wants the wa govt to up its contribution by 120 million

Thats what they are negotiating and whether the nrl itself has to tip in funds as well

That doesnt mean they want to be held to ransom either.
The equivalent to saying this is,

Walking into a Mazda car yard saying I want to buy their most expensive car with all the perks and whistles then complaining they are holding me to ransom when they print out the bill.

If Bears want back in, why don't they stump up the shortfall that the WA government won't provide?

Will be interesting if WA fails to proceed. Will PVL also abandon the Bears or force another expansion applicant to take them on.
Nothing was forced. WA had full choice to go alone. They were advised against it so they didn’t. But who knows, they were also advised many times to stump up a licence fee and didn’t

So they admit Perth with all the holes...

They run bottom 4 there 1st few years ( both expansion teams will be shit for a while )

Like Titans or Newcastle under Tinkler private investment ( Hell add 2 Perth national league sides in Glory and Wildcats that both had a change of ownership )falls through.

Then where does the Perth team sit?

It should be very hard to get into the comp and that side should be sustainable.

Why is this such an issue that NRL are being smart about this?

How does forcing them into a relationship with the Bears, a team that won f**k all while it existed, help keep it out of the bottom 4?

How does taking $20m off them to give to other clubs help them financially?

There is nothing smart about either of those 2 things.
