Barcelona membership ownership model. Still a lot of questions re who pays start up costs and covers losses etc but I suppose say 20,000 members paying $100 a year is $2mill year extra revenue for the club. NRL must be pretty confident a perth bears club could generate 20,000 fans willing to pay to own a share of the club.
FC Barcelona is a fan-owned club, with 100% ownership held by its members, known as "socios". Socios pay an annual membership fee and have a say in the club's strategy:
- Membership fee: In 2023, the annual membership fee was €208, and is paid in full in December or January.
- Voting: Socios elect the club's president by ballot.
- Club decisions: Socios have a say in the club's strategy.
- Club business: The club's president is responsible for running the club as an owner, taking control of business and sporting decisions.
Socios are required to commit to the club for a minimum of three years by holding a commitment card. The commitment card costs €144 per year.
The Barcelona board of directors can also grant membership in exceptional circumstances.
Barcelona is one of only four clubs in Spain that is 100% owned by its fans, along with Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, and CA Osasuna.
