WA BEARS

We had $30mill start up spend from prospective WA owners, why bother just replacing that with Sydney owners if they are not bringing more?
Not true

Cummins approached the kings owners to invest

He literally said no to one group of Sydney investors to then go to other ones

Why would he even look to Sydney investors if he could raise all the money locally

Except everything has said that all parties want 100% Perth team.

Bears owning 49% wouldn't they want a chunk of games in Sydney? That then makes it not a Perth team
I think therein is the problem.

For whatever reason, the Bears being part of this seems to be no1 on the priority list for the NRL.

IF a Perth consortium is happy with that compromise, then I say get the Bears to substantially fund it, but ensure they retain majority ownership.

Seems like any private bid without massive amounts of gambling monies just isn't palatable to the NRL.

ok we had $26mill WA money + $4mill from Sydney (and their expertise and experience in prof sports and media which is why they were invited to be part of it I'd suggest.)

You keep stating this like its a fact, I haven't seen anything anywhere in media that backs up that 'story' that WA turned down Sydney investors. And again without knowing the detail, ie what they were offering and what they expected in return there's no way of knowing if that was an appropriate call or not. The fact that they were willing to have a sydney investor on board suggests it wasnt parochialism stopping them looking further afield?

People can choose to believe what they want

The fact there were no bears investors involved / north leagues shows to me Cummins didn’t want to give any equity away other than to his circle

It corroborates what others have said here

The fact there are people with lots of cash now involved who are bears fans shows Cummins wasn’t Interested in their money

The bears signed over their ip and branding to the bid under contract. That was where their involvement ended

I think the bears made a huge error leaving everything to Cummins like that and why pvl got involved to protect their interests when they were too desperate

There was literally a media report about Tony Crawford coming onto the board of the western bears (obviously the arl wanted oversight as they didn’t trust Cummins)

Then eventually they decided he was too untrustworthy and pulled the pin totally

TV would be huge part of the Bears name

Then it becomes a joint venture which has barely been better new clubs in expansion

Investors are aware it’s a Perth team with Bears branding.

Yep but say North Sydney Leagues Club, They aren't going to fund a team in Perth. So the answer to the original question is because they'd want games etc.

The Sydney Kings owner buying in or Jim Jefferies won't care

That's all Pete's doing though, he has inadvertently created a shit Frankenstein monster, that the Bears are only involved in name only.

I doubt Perth govt wants to fund a CoE for a part time team either.

So we get this name only Bears and some junior teams to keep Sydney talent as opposed to a joint venture

Bears branding? I can think of at least 8 bears that pop into my head before North Sydney.
Paddington bear
Chicago bears
Teddy bear
Yogi bear
Fozzie bear
Humphrey the bear
That bear in toy story
Bad news bears

A few old codgers and dorks with graphs remember them.

Norths Leagues didn't even want to fund a team that were moving to the Central Coast, even though the Leagues was born out of the football club.

lol

Wb: It was bad the Western Bears didnt invite Sydney investors
also Wb: It was bad the Western Bears had a Sydney investor

Maybe they should have asked you which investors they should have had from Sydney lol. Not one person has been able to show any evidence of these investors, who they are (other than the comedian bloke who expressed an interest), what they were willing to put in for what they wanted in return or who is now offering money and how much for what. But yeh lets make a judgement based on what we dont know!

Bears fans have told me consistently that Norths have little interest in funding the football side of things. Be it now or for a Perth NRL club. Pretty sure if theyd have come forward with $10mill+ theyd have got 25% ownership. They had the ideal opportunity to pay the license fee and get a share of ownership if they were desperate to do so.

Obviously pvl didn’t like the Sydney investors western found

Why do you think Cummins was rejected ? It’s more than just not offering to pay any license fee

Yeh a group that has built a hugely successful prof sports club and has major sports media conduits and expertise. Sounds like terrible people to have in the tent.
