WA BEARS

The ARLC told Perth it the Bears or nothing.

That's a shit way to run a process.

It should be a total clean slate.

This arrangement will see the Bears jump ship the moment they think they see a better opportunity.
What a simplistic and inaccurate way of looking at the situation.

Ok … so how much money would you be expecting them to invest in a his hypothetical situation ?

Well the sticking point seems to be the $12m a year they want WA government to spend.

Whatever that figure ends up being seems to be what is stopping an announcement.

North Sydney Leagues in theory could cover it but what do they get from it?

Then you risk pissing off the WA government and not getting the CoE not to mention you start out with fractions on the board

Take out the a league and super rugby games and sure that might be a valid argument

Reality is the Cummins bid wanted 100 percent ownership of the club so asking the bears to then put money in was kinda stupid

There are loads of bears investors that would love to put money into this bid and own a chunk of it

With the arl running things im sure this is what will happen

And also bears leagues club to increase junior funding

If I was the WA Govt … i would be locking in a minimum number of games at the ground in return for the investment … like 11

loads of potential Bears fans ..like who? The comedian guy again who wants to buy 3 percent?

I also haven’t heard a peep out of any of the actual Bears fans about the North Sydney club looking to buy in , so unless I’ve missed something … we can probably scratch them from the discussion

Sounds like you are arguing both sides of this hypothetical

Again Cummins wanted his group to own 100 percent of the bid

Bears part ownership was something he didn’t want to see happening

Now the new bid is going in a different direction

Both wa and Sydney investors have been linked to the bid. The Sydney ones are rich rich rich

This is why I doubt the arl will own the bid. Maybe a small share or a director on the board

If the bears fans are so passionate they have the option of attending away games when the frankenbears travel to Sydney.

Playing at a hovel is keeping to the past - isn't that what you peanuts are against?
No one with genuine support really gives a f**k about playing at NSO. One game is nice, two (with pre season being 1) is more than should be given.

The push for 4/6 was always absurd but they started negotiating at the highest number and it got worked down to what it is. No issue there.

There’s plenty of games to attend as away fans. After all, that is half the appeal. Having an away fan base to draw on to be able to attend games around Sydney.

No one is chucking a stink here, not sure why you’re insinuating it’s even an issue tbh.

That is the thing, The 4/6 was originally mentioned and would of came with conditions and certainly would of been a joint venture

As that got moved down so would of the financial buy in.

The away fans are why the club wants Bears name

Which investors is my question … again … and how much money are they looking to put in ? …
50 million is the figure I was told

Who dunno didn’t push tbh it’s not info that should be discussed on a public forum

Remember the recent articles said the nrl was against any private ownership and was going to own the team itself

I should note it’s just not for away support in regard to attending games but also watching the game on tv.

Perth metro viewership right now is 8k average for NRL games. That’s abysmal but there is context - no home team being the most obvious. However the fact not many people actually care for the game itself isn’t ideal. If they did, the numbers would be higher regardless of the teams that are playing/matches televised/time matches are on.

At the very least you’ll get eyes on screens if Bears play due to brand alone. It’ll surely be higher than 8k thats currently presented for sure.

I think once a WA team comes in surely the local viewership increases by double if not triple, maybe more initially. 16-24k would be a good jump but the fresh shiny new thing might even push it to 30k +. Issue is if the team is performing crap and numbers drop.

Away fan base (Bears) will keep watching them. Partial fans though? Not so sure they’ll watch a losing team week in week out. Lots of variables to consider, these are just some of them. It doesn’t paint the full picture and there is data and more in depth metrics which broadcasters and ARLC/NRL are working off that’s not being presented here (because we don’t know about it or can’t be bothered debating in circles about it).

I think that will come out in the final model but Paul Smith said he wants to buy in. Sold part of his Share in the Sydney Kings.

That would point to him being one.

His company is sports marketing one, So benefits from the added exposure

Agreed 100% that's why I don't understand why the Bears aren't offering more financial support.

In terms of the pay tv deal getting a Perth nrl team is worth almost nothing

Existing league fans already have it
So do fumbler fans

So where are the new viewers going to come from

The bears will get viewers in Sydney that don’t watch the game regularly now

Bu who ? Not interesting in you naming him but perhaps you could say how this guy is credible ?

also $50m should be enough to get it done … so what’s the delay?
Since pvl is dealing directly with the wa govt nobody knows what the delay is

The last issue seems to be pvl asking for an extra 12 million pa from the wa govt to fund juniors in wa

The remaining issues seem to be who owns it and how much the wa govt / nrl are putting into it

Of course.

6pm Friday games is 4pm Perth time. Having a 100k Bears fans tune in on the East helps the value of the deal.

I think the 220k number is wrong but if there are say 2k that attend regular away games. You are at an extra $100k for the home club.

Compare that to say the Pirates that may bring a handful.

This is why the Bears are linked not to be a joint venture partner
