Further to this is there was an arranged announcement date etc can any Bears verify this? Surely there would be people in that organisation in the know considering it marks their return to the NRL, alongside WA. You would suspect it would be a 3-way announcement coming from NRL HQ, Norths Leagues and a location in WA?

No formal announcement date was ever discussed or organised.

Abdo a year ago said the NRL would have announced it expansion plans by end of 2024. Two weeks ago Vlandys said they would be announcing things in 2-4 weeks time. tikety tok.
OK, so Vlandys was aiming for "by the end of November" in other words. Hmm.

What then if we get past next week and we STILL don't have any confirmation?

This is getting ridiculous.

I'm lucky enough to have contacts within the WA side. I'm passionate about having a Perth side but I have absolutely zero interest in making stuff up on an internet forum ... believe what you will.
@Matt_CBY you can laugh all you like you lightweight, but this bloke ^ is one poster who is worth reading, instead of your silly cackling you should take note.

Everyone on here freaking out because they don’t know what is going on.

Meanwhile the NRL are organising things cleanly and working to their timeline which they don’t have to communicate with the public at all.

Likely we’ll find out a press conference is called the day of or day before the announcement.

10/10 by who? Did NRL come out and formally state this? As for the outstanding comment, something can be outstanding and superb and still fail.

Why would WA Bears be recruiting staff before a formal announcement? Where's a direct quote from Peter V'Landys saying there would be an announcement in 2/4 weeks time?

I feel like you lot are reading things that aren't actually being said by who you think they're being said by leading to confusion.
you need to catch up on the last 12 months of press releases lol. Nice of you to come and join the party late but all of this stuff has been in the media for months.

No it hasn't. Peter V'Landys never stated a time of when announcements would be made.

This feels like you lot made up things in your heads because journalist/s gave their opinion on what looked like probable announcement dates without anything actually being directly quoted, stated or otherwise confirmed in any way or shape.

I might have come to the party late but at least I haven't got ahead of myself mate. No one seems to be able to answer the questions either which is bizarre considering the experts on here?

Is Peter V'Landys only directly dealing with Papua and WA Bears? Do you think Peter has been buttering up Albo and Roger by constantly mentioning them when it comes to those two bids in particular?

If Papua has guaranteed cash then why haven't they been announced? Do you think they are waiting on WA being ready and it being a one, two punch announcement?

2027 would be a stretch for any new team if their is no official announcement this off-season.

Particularly one having to establish itself in a non-RL state.

Won't that affect the TV negotiations if we are still at 17 in 2027 also?

I have a sneaking suspicion the NRL has given-up on hopes of 2027 for expansion - as you say, the clock is ticking pretty loudly on that.

Adding the next team in 2028 also means the NRL doesn't increase from the current 8 games per week until the next TV deal starts, so no need to renegotiate terms for that pesky last year of the current deal.

That's how it was reported in the media.

'V’landys concedes there is a possibility talks with the WA government could fail, but he remains confident the Perth Bears will be unveiled as the NRL’s 18th team within two to four weeks.'

from 3 weeks ago
“The negotiations with the WA government are continuing. Nothing has been concluded or rejected.
“We are still in talks and they will continue for the next few weeks.'

end of 2023.
"We want to keep growing," Abdo said.
"By the end of 2024 we will know what it looks like for an 18th franchise and potentially beyond that."

It would make sense, it still has to go to the clubs for agreement, easier to do that with 2 or even 3 bids in play than juts one and have to go back a few weeks later with next one.

No, new tv deal wont commence until 2028 (presuming they just don't give the incumbents another deal). As long as deal is done by March time then 2 years is tight but probably just enough to hit the ground in 2027.

None of that screams there is going to be announcements made though.

With Abdo's comments by saying at the end of 2024 could mean a big fat NO, we will put expansion on backburner just as much as a YES, lets expand. Knowing what something will look like doesn't mean it'll be a positive outcome by any stretch.

As for V'Landys comments it reads exactly as it sounds. Negotiations are on going and nothing is confirmed. We are within those "next few weeks" which could be anywhere between 2 to 6 weeks really.

It seems like as I said people got excited before a process has concluded.

Hopefully we get some actual news soon.

WA youngster Darius Rogers has signed with the Brisbane Broncos to join his older brother Josh.
Darius will play with the Broncos Hostplus QLD Cup side the Burleigh Bears until he gets his call up into the top grade.
North Beach Sea Eagles’ 18 year old Darius was the ISC NRL WA Fuel to Go&Play halfback of the year in 2024.
