Nah, it benefits the NRL by increasing viewership across Sydney TV audiences, also benefits those away Sydney crowds.
Add to that the overall sense that the game is healing from the SL war. Then of course WA benefits from the pathways in place and tapping into a rich 100 year history instead of being simply a pop up brand.

But sure besides all that..
No one in perth cares if NS have a hundred year old history lol. Sure adds 20-50k tv audience in Sydney and a few hundred to Sydney crowds I suppose. But let’s not pretend, vlAndy’s remains nsw myopic and cares more about getting a dead Sydney club back than he does a Perth club. Perth id just an opportunity because of govt cash, like png, not a growth strategy for the game.

The original post asked what the bears bring to the bid

@Gobsmacked pointed our all the benefits both to the team itself and also the game of rugby league

Yeh but in W.A. you have Perth red and his mates as neighbours

In sure the png facility will be built on the beach with exclusive beach access for their players

Meanwhile the Perth boys will be holed up in an industrial area of Malaga
I know you're stupid but there's no need to show it at every opportunity.

That's not true. Look at the comments Politis has made about 20 teams. Pretty much speaks for NRL administration.

Perth doesn’t need Sydney TV viewership. This isn’t a prerequisite for any other expansion team. Those ‘away sydney crowds’ is an issue for the Sydney clubs.

It’s been 30 years. We have record crowds and tv viewership. We’ve healed plenty.

WA has more juniors than some clubs and that’s before being a part of the competition. Also, I don’t think a brand that had a 90 year history and base that still fell over is any better than a ‘pop up brand’.

Have them come in by proxy? Cool whatever. But let’s not give their narcissistic higher-ups the belief that they’re doing some noble thing by associating with Perth. This is just News Corp manufactured consent of a gerontocratic pushed type of think, that has created and will solve the same problem. Constant Bears whinging and hijacking of expansion discussions.

The Sydney clubs along with other stakeholders have to accept expansion. So if having a Bear name brings fans to those clubs it helps the bottomline

NRL doesn't need these new areas to survive, They want them and that is a big difference

What Sydneysider is going to watch a team from WA with a very tenuous link to a mediocre team that went bust 20 years ago?
They might pull a bit more from supporters of the Bears traditional rivals but isn't that just Manly?

I'm struggling to think of any other Sydney clubs that have that kinda long running & intense rivalry with the Bears.

Sydney experts feel free to correct me, but from what I gather it's not like how Parramatta have long running & ongoing rivalries against Penrith, Canterbury Bankstown AND Manly.. right?

It seems like Norths had sympathy from other clubs fans instead of any great hate & fierce competition/rivalry... the lovable losers that everyone cheered for if their own team wasn't playing...

for someone like you who posts and replies in every major thread topic ie expansion, stadiums, broadcast deals etc you really are clueless about both the game of rugby league, sports business and sports administration as a whole.

perthwrongs, ding dong.

if you poked your head out of his forum for a moment and go into the real worlds there’s bears fans out there. contrary to what you think alwaysloser, the games administrators know more about the metrics of the sports that meet key criteria ie where what when how say more than you do cob.

If they believe there’s a market for it then there’s a market for it and no matter how many loser replies you give to people you obsess will change that. So slow down on being a tosser and a loser and get with it.

Nothings changed for me, they are an unfortunate convenience. I’d much prefer a new perth club for perth. But we have no option so it’s live with it or don’t.
what has changed is I had faith the wa consortium would have made sure the most important things for wa rugby league and fans happened. I have no such faith with vlandys and ns making decisions for the club.

I argue with you first point. WA is tiny market in the grand scheme of things and I think they do need market rise from where traditional heartland and viewers are. you can twists numbers all ya like but truth is wa itself is dog poo in viewership numbers and while that will no doubt rise during honey moon period, sustaining that will be the challenge especially if there’s consecutive shit seasons from the club.

people here can argue all they want and genuinely believe they’re right but guess what? The game doesn’t agree with you, that’s why what is happening is happening and I don’t get the constant push against it from half dozen posters in here. It’s like everything that’s been reported by the games key figures lands on deaf ears with ya guys.

second there’s a massive difference in west Aussie have more juniors as a number and more juniors that are actively in a proper system that leads to a pathway of grade footy. Quantity and quality are two different things and majority of clubs with lesser juniors than west Aussie I bet my left nut have far greater quality than the west Aussie ones. If they didn’t then all clubs would be scouting in west Aussie yet bugger all are because why I’m writing rings true and before people say “but there’s nrl no club hence no genuine pathway” guess what? There’s no nrl club in samoa or Fiji and yet players are streaming through some 3rd world villages into the game and being identified as potential to make grade footy.

the rest of your post is so out of touch. Which bears have been whinging? Centy coast hasn’t he just replies with common sense stuff and red bears definitely hasn’t he seems to only post when there’s actually stuff to talk about.

and how is they hijacking anything? No perthwrongs hijacks by thinking he knows stuff and doesn’t know anything, if he gives you a scoop on what team will win choose the opposite and you’ll make cash and alwaysloser hijacks by constantly being obsessed by the very posters he makes fun of yet no one bothers to reply to him.

so pull ya socks up guys, if ya gonna get into proper discussion at least gave facts to back ya stuff up otherwise ya just blowing more wind into topics that have plenty of wind already in em

So much faith they got scumbag investors with criminal links? they had no clue about what was required to actually bid? Yeah ok cob. So ya have faith in a shit talker with no sense of what he is doing but have no faith in the games admins themselves who that bloke was trying to get in with.

also why don’t ya show ya true feelings of the bears in your Facebook group cob. Cmon you’ll lose more than half your members, don’t be shy tell ‘em how ya really feel instead of carrying on with two different personalities on this forums and on social media. coward

Ya know the song perthwrongs, ding fricken dong

It appears that the NRL had no strategy of where they wanted a team based. The strategy was lets open the bidding and whoever throws the most money at us, they are in (PNG is evidence of this). If they actually had a strategy of where they want teams based, they would have said, we are expanding to Perth (or any other city they chose) as our research shows there is demand for the game there or we want to grow the game there and only calling bids from there.

If they'd have had a strategy for where they'd have been building in that location for 5 years+. Like I've said NRL is not a strategic organisation when it comes to expansion, its an opportunistic one.

I counter this. If there were interested parties in Perth to bid then more would bid. Absolutely nothing is stopping other bidders from west Aussie but no one else did. shows the real appetite for the game there locally. even cumins couldn’t do it without east coast investor intervention. Nz has 3 bidders. Qld has 3 bidders. during this whole process nrl have always mentioned papua west Aussie New Zealand and south Queensland. That’s where bids are from.

west Aussie has always been about time factor and predominant 6pm slot. nz has always been about growing game in South Island. Papua has always been political but considering it’s a rugby league nation developing that resource will benefit all clubs in due time. it might not be a streamlined process to expansion but nrl have never hidden away from those 4 markets are being flagged.
