Aren't they the only club who owns their stadium and leagues club?
Plus Kareela park golf course and a commercial building at Cronulla

Cowboys have a big league clubs to be fair. Turns over 75 million pa

Dolphins own kayo park with their leagues club right behind it

Nobody else in the nrl owns their own ground but maybe a few qld cup sides do (easts tigers ???)

that jersey would make a good west aussie bears kit as long as it was updated to reflect the modern requirements of kits of course. maybe a yellow line or 2 on the shorts to go with the red back drop and black lines. definitely keep the jersey red back drop and black lines though. no need to change that.

I feel like the Dolphins have put their stamp on the predominantly red base, but Bears have hardly scratched the surface with how good a black base with some Red up top can look, like their Away for "23-"24

now 30 years on it looks like the nrl will own bears anyways in west aussie. so one could say that the current norths administrators have at least learnt their lesson with whats overall best for business moving forwards in regard to the brand.
NRL will own the WA Bears, not the North Sydney Bears. NthSyd are their own club that will feed into WA. They aren't relocating to Perth or merging with a WA team.

But otherwise, yes, a Bears team will be owned initially by the NRL if reports end up being correct.

thats what im saying? i didnt say anything about merging, or relocating.

i said was norths learnt their lesson - lesson is nrl ie controlling organization owning franchise (not club) because thats whats best for business for the franchise. this was stated in relevance to mid 90's and the prospective controlling organization back then implementing % ownership of franchises which was crux of why bears declined.

maybe im alone but i see franchise and club as two different things.

The NRL has one important hurdle to overcome before introducing a Perth Bears side into an expanded competition. It is all about getting the broadcasters, Channel 9 and Fox Sports, onside. We have spoken to high-level sources at both networks on this issue. They have concerns around the tricky timeslots in broadcasting from Perth into the eastern states, the production costs – and the fact the NRL is going into a city that is already so invested in two AFL sides. However, both Nine and Fox Sports have faith in Peter V’landys’ track record with successful new ventures.

seems like a non story really
Working hard now to downplay the value for the networks.

Funny as both 9 and Fox had told the Perth consortium previously at Magic round they wanted Perth and it added the most value of the expansion options ...

They don’t add more than Ipswich

Adding more than png and nz2 for Australian viewers is a low bar to beat given they both will appeal to their own local markets

Interesting way to look at it. Since it's not a relocation the NRL are essentially a franchisee who can use the Bears' brand for their WA club.

Key word is out of the expansion options.

All the options are costly, Origin 2 kicks off at 5pm due to time difference

Very few locals will watch it live. You put that v say PNG and the TV interest will be low.

Throw in the NRL wanting to cut round and it grows that issue

Hence why the push for Bears not a random logo

A Quokka is native to WA. Almost all logos are random.
Probably only the Eels and Rabbitohs have a geographical or historical meaning.

Unless Humphrey the Bear came from Mosman or Perth, I may have missed that.

Souths being the Rabbitohs is the funniest since they all think it's just another term for bunnies when it was a term for someone who would hunt and trap rabbits.

Bears got the name from Big Bear Supermarket in Neutral Bay who sponsored the club in 1959.

I always thought they stole their jersey from Freddy Krueger.

Bears is even more random than I thought, they could have been the North Sydney Woollies.

Wouldn’t Origin kick off at 6pm (8pm AEST)?
