WA BEARS

I've emailed the office of David Templeman to tell him to stop having coffee with the English fella because he's spilling confidential government discussions on a forum.

Why in the world would you split venues for magic weekend? They aren't going to drop revenue from Suncorp to go to a shanty town out west for a town that doesn't get league. It'll always be in Brisbane, Sydney or Auckland.

But the consortium in October was flawed and was thusly rejected. Why do you keep hedging on this? Do you have shares in Cash Converters?

You know what at this stage I hope the WA Bears collapses. The NRL shifts focus to Christchurch Bears (the Canterbury rugby region already plays in red and black), they're opening a new boutique stadium soon and they have ample training facilities. Ready made rivalry with the Warriors and easier flight times. Perth can keep their glory, their fumble ball and stay out
Except all perthwrongs info has been wrong! He reckons there wasn’t an nda! Look at yesterday and the reaction it screamed nda to me! Well one that got stuff leaked.

redbears is only one who knows what’s going on. Perthwrong is just a sad old bloke from hull trying to have relevance in something. Bugger off perthwrongs, no one cares about ya

and him to suggest magic round in Perth is hilarious. Screams of a sad sack of sheep dung who never been to brissy magic round lol. Ya know the heartland of league where it’s guaranteed success year on year like it has been lol.

consortium was flawed but now he can’t get good value for his pawned English antiques that he sells to cashies and has to revert to collecting cans.

WA election 2025: $320m price tag for Western Bears a ‘deal killer’

A $320 million price tag for WA to get its own rugby league team has been labelled ‘fanciful’ by Premier Roger Cook, who warned demands by NRL boss
Peter V’landys risked ‘killing’ the Western Bears deal.

However, he has not ruled ruled out a big cheque to secure a western team, saying: “It depends what the deal is and those discussions haven’t concluded.”

Mr Cook added that if the price tag was similar to a $320 million wish floated by Mr V’landys: “It’s a deal killer. The deal is off.”

In revelations in east coast media this week, the Premier reportedly had discussions with Mr V’Landys in the final days before caretaker mode started on February 5.

Liberal leader Libby Mettam declared on Thursday that she would not cut an expensive taxpayer-funded deal to secure a western team.

Ms Mettam seized on reports of secret talks, including demands for a $120m licence fee, grassroots investment and a $200m upgrade of HBF Park for a team facility to accuse the Premier of using taxpayers to “fund his hobby”.

”WA deserves a rugby team, but we should not be handing hundreds of millions of dollars to east coast businessmen to secure it,” she told The West Australian.

The Liberals would not rule out making some form of payment, but it is understood the stadium upgrades were deemed unnecessary, given rugby teams currently play games there, while no other team was required to pay licence fee.

Under a proposal to bring WA into the NRL, the North Sydney Bears would be relocated to Perth, and be rebadged as the “Western Bears”.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Mr V’landys said the talks with the State Government had been “very positive”.

“I have been talking to the WA premier and I am very comfortable and confident with where we are at,” he said.

“I appreciate there is an election on (in Western Australia), but I’m confident after the election we will come to an arrangement.”

Calling the side “Roger’s Rugby Team”, Ms Mettam called for the Premier to be transparent over what funding he would commit to secure the Western Bears.

“WA Labor cannot treat voters as mugs – we deserve to know what has been promised to bring Roger’s Rugby Team to WA.”

WA Election 2025: Labor MP Paul Lilburne resorts to name-calling opponent

On Friday, Mr Cook ruled out a “blank cheque” but refused to be drawn on the proposed deal and whether voters deserved to know the details before the State election on March 8.

“We want to have a NRL team in WA, only WA can put the N in NRL, only WA can provide new eyeballs for the national competition,” he said.

“I like Peter V’landys, we’ve had great conversations, but if he thinks that Western Australians are going to be treated as second class NRL citizens, if he thinks we’re going to see a repeat of the Western Reds, he’s got another thought coming. The deal is off.

“The numbers I see today are ridiculous and the deal is off.”

Asked whether he should seek an election mandate for any proposed price, Mr Cook replied: “there’s no deal to put to the people of WA” yet.

The bolded is hilarious. Goes on to say this but the news coverage cut before he did. You can almost tell the numbers put out were correct or there abouts and legitimately leaked. Lol. No wonder he had to save face in front of a camera.

Meanwhile the parts of libs considering payment but not stadium. Redbears was right the whole time. Maybe he leaked the info?? Lol

So from today's 'drama' and predictable hysterics from the usual source on The Cave on Facebook (you really are a fanny @Perth Red), we now have it established that the Liberals also support a Western Bears. Obviously not to the extent of Roger RL but good news regardless of the election result.

So is it going to happen or not?

That's the question. If no, then Abdo should get on a plane to Christchurch quick smart.
Unfortunately there is no money from the NZ govt either.

It's pretty f**ked that the so- called "cashed" up NRL can't afford one expansion team without it being subsidised by the taxpayer to the tune of millions.

Thing that annoys me is the libs are actually supportive of the team and have had some discussions with Pvl but are pretending they are dead against it to try and win votes

Anyway I get the feeling the nrl and W.A. govt already have potential board members and ceo lined up and the club will hit the ground running

Everything red bear said a month ago has panned out subsequently over the past month

I was tempted to post the whole thing as it’s dated now but if red bear doesn’t want to do it himself it’s for me to do so

I’m here for the Perth red meltdowns until it happens it’s really amusing

Nz govt don’t need money since they’ve already sunk close to 700 million on two new / newish South Island stadiums

And the orcas bid has said they will pay a license fee from private investors and also fund junior academies all over nz

the article literally says as much as in not against paying for something, assuming the grassroots pathways $120m thing but not for the stadium upgrades.

thing is the stadium will eventually need upgrading anyways, if not now then in a few years and its for the benefit of all tenants not just nrl lol. super rugby and a league and tourism wa via events stand to benefit from it just as much.

$200m is much better for them than the originally reported $300-$350m which came from the west aussie gov anyways! $120m has always been a figure floated for pathways and its been stated as much that it has always been for pathways. it seems the nov/dec 2024 reported $500m got negotiated down to $320m.. no issues with the reports and articles about $500m back in december but now issue with $320m? lol

add it up folks. thats the actual sum $320m and people now scrambling to deny whats been agreed to until it formally announced post election. clearly agreed to and put in nda. they all using same language for weeks when chatting about it. someone leaked it and had to pour water.

then same time cookies said they'd pay for it anyways (number undisclosed)! that part just wasnt covered in the presser vid lol

Cook is right in that it's outrageous that the NRL wants stadium upgrades whilst we play games in absolute shit holes.

It's also hilarious that one of the "non-negotiable" items for the Bears is to play at games at NSO.

It was the stadium funding cook wanted to fund not the 120 million grassroots

Now he’s basically agreeing to the 120 million anyway

Stadium will not just benefit league it’s an easy sell post election

If he announced the stadium funding now I doubt it would be a huge political issue since it’s multi purpose just would raise questions on how much league is getting

Remember when the cowboys were complaining to get a brand new 350 million stadium with no other tenants ?

You can be supportive of the team, but not the excessive gouging of taxpayer dollars that the NRL, especially when they get so little in return.

Such an outlay should mean fundamental control of the team, and the complete removal of the Bears involvement.

you kidding me? the return will be doubled in a decade with tourism money and uplifted rent increases from super rugby and a league due to the stadium being in better knick.

The problem is that you assume I'm happy with one and not the other.

Assumption make you look like a f**k up.

The real story is the NRL is creating bad blood with the WA community here, and getting greedy all the while focusing on Sydney as the main selling point.

It's almost like they won't this to fail.

Ok let’s get the cowboys stadium moved to png

That would be sweet

Dfs can get another go

And you better stop going to cowboys home games since you aren’t a fan of the stadium
