It was done buddy, but things got changed last minute. That’s business mate and if you’ve ever had any dealings with state governments sometimes that’s how it goes.

I have had successfully tendered government projects which were won at a certain value, changed during pre-construction or even live construction stages and then parts of funding removed which subsequently caused contract changes. Sometimes complete stoppages to stage it based on funding and other times complete stoppages without further progress.

This is quite literally happening in QLD right now with a few government hospital projects.

That’s just how it is. No one involved with this process is losing sleep over it. They’ll just start their chats back up when ready.
Why respond to that drip ?

There’s a lot of people on here that want updates just ignore the trolls

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll manage to find someone else to blame next time too.

My solution:

nrl and wa govt announce Perth bears are in for 2028
wa govt announce funding grassroots RL and training centre $100mill investment
Same time nrl announce they are tripling nrlwa budget $30mill over 10 years (real cost $20mill extra)

behind the scenes wa govt and nrl work out a deal that sees wa govt investment of $120mill in a new west stand and bigger terrace at north end. Nrl contribute $20mill. For this they get 10 years rent free usage and a kick back on signage and food sales.

in 6 months wa govt make an announcement of hbf upgrade with soccer, union and league in press conference.

sorted. Fair investment by both parties, Cook gets his public perception he needs and nrl get club 19 and rl investment for not much money.

I haven't been following this thread and can't be bothered to trace back but what happened to all those guys, PR in particular, with government sources? Did they predict this? If not, why?

Another NZ team is pretty unique in that it will probably get funded by sources outside of the team itself as you've eluded to in the form of Infrastructure already built and NZ TV providing additional cash.
Yeah, just look at how quickly the Dolphins & PNG were added.

If Peter V'landys likes what a bid brings, he makes it happen. If he's got doubts, he grills it.

Christchurch hits a lot of buttons that he's already mentioned - Growth in juniors & pathways, creating a derby, great stadium.

The money is tricky, BUT I think key there is convincing the existing clubs that a) Christchuch/NZ 2 will really grow the player pool and B) Revenue from NZ2 (especially - but not limited - to TV rights) will grow from it.

The upgrades might be able to be done for $185m however that is really pushing it. $200m is pretty precise.

$140m. Not sure, I’d be concerned if that’s all the funding available for what the intent is. Variation city for the builder and cost blow outs for the client..

I said way back in November afte the cook Vlandys meeting when everyone else was saying deal was done that my source said there were many hurdles to over come. And here we are.

tbf to both my recent source and red and black, if his info is correct of what the issue is, it sounds like Cook being backed into a corner during the election, the media leaks and sht reporting creating a public perception in of nrl being greedy may have changed things to what the original plan was.

Depends what they were originally intending to do. If it was west stand, infill and roof on south stand and replace shed with a south stand style seating stand then cutting out all that except the west stand may be doable. Putting a cantilever and extending the shed full, width adds 2k or so to capacity, the lower bowl of west stand can remain as is with a second level corprorate stand added above it like they did with east stand.

sure it won’t be bells and whistles but if it delivers 20 or so corporate boxes and some function space with an additional 2000 seats compared to current west side that will give us 25k or so capacity with the corporate facilities we need,

I like the idea as well of having a bit of unique character and something different by having 3k terrace standing at north end.

$140mill might do it?

Yeah the potential player pool is another plus for South island. Sure, maybe not on day 1, but the Rugby talent is there ready to tap into and you'd imagine the NRL pathways for the team will be very attractive

Basically. It sounds like AFL (and their apologists/enablers/cheerleaders in the media) are extremely skilled at that.

There are some bullies will beat you up while there are others that will spread lies & rumours about you until your status & self-esteem is screwed

It's that subtle, insidious bullying that AFL master - very two faced, very insidious, VERY effective.

The only reason this hid was being considered was the large govt contribution

Without it it’s dead in the water

120 million is a joke

By the way where’s your anger AFL killed your team ??

They had $50mill + $100mill. Looks like they might end with f**k all as you say. So rugba league.
$150m is a pathetic offer to join the world's biggest rugby comp and Australia's most watched sport, especially from a rich state. Look at what the relatively poor Tasmania is paying for a fumble team.

Perth is nice to have for the NRL but not essential. WA have to make an offer worth considering to be let in.

The timing of this week’s past events is incredibly odd. I guess the catch ups were pre-planned but still.

V’Landys, Abdo and various commissioners will be in WA for both the double header this coming weekend and then the origin in 3 months.

I am certain they’ll get back into the meeting room at some point this week and definitely in July. It’ll be interesting to see how NRL handle the official news that the bids on temporary hold and then how they navigate the inevitable backlash of the local press leading into these games. If I were in WA’s shoes I’d be asking NRL why should the locals care about these games. Whilst in the same breath I understand that more bums on seats makes a case.

I’d also be interested to know what the 6pm Sunday game time slot ratings for 2025 currently are. This would be a key data metric for the stakeholders.

I hope PVD announces Christchurch at the double header, just to give Cook a massive kick in the dick.
" thanks to our fans for attending the event, unfortunately the bid was unsuccessful as your premier Cook didn't honour our agreement . This licence has now been granted to Christchurch as they have provided an NRL worthy facility "
