Just because these business people excelled in their specific field doesn’t mean they understand corporate sports business, which clearly they didn’t.

A few million dollars as a buffer in a sports environment that can fluctuate and where you can lose that over the course of a few shit months isn’t exactly confidence raising. Especially in a non-heartland with a new set up and metrics data which doesn’t show overwhelming support and cause.

$100m would have done it. $60m start up, $20m for their fee, $20m as BG’s.

$30m inclusive of BG’s and then scampering for a further $20m was never going to get it over the line.

I’m just being honest with you mate.
The odds of any group ponying up $100mill cash for a new nrl license in a new area seems pretty slim. great to have aspiration but if it will never meet reality it just becomes a dream.

Probably because they spent $1/2mill on that bid and countless hours of time. I assume they would also have preferred a wa club to be wa owned,

So did others …. Something I have been critical of as well…

but that spend guarantees nothing …

now why did the govt wait 6 months to tell us that was a problem ?

There are agendas in everything about RL …Im sure that you know that by now ,,,if that upsets them then they clearly aren’t ready to join
They’re politicians they are spinning it as they do everything. I wouldn’t believe a pollie if they told me the grass is green. Doesn’t discount the fact that info is being leaked to the sydney media from nrlhq and has been since this started back in august.

Because they are using it to try and appease a very angry section of the wa public. Policies are designed to spin. As is nrlhq.

Maybe they have told the nrl before, personally I’m very disappointed in them that they didn’t make it a condition of their funding. I believe having a wa owned club is very important. But I get why they didn’t want to put all their eggs in one basket. Doesn’t mean they can’t feel that spending all that time and money for nothing isnt disappointing for them as she said.

Dolphins bank guarantees alone were $50m. Then they had start up costs on top of that.

This is essentially why they beat out the combined East Tigers as Firehawks, Ipswich Jets, Bombers bid. Because even though that consortium rallied around $55m in start up, the predominant partner in East Tigers weren’t prepared to release $50m even as collateral against their owned assets as BG’s.

Corporate sports business is a ruthless business. Especially when our competitions are evermore modelled after the American competitions.

So it’s proved very harmful. Disrespectful and paints the nrl as a set of cowboys

Mate …they will do anything that they think provides them leverage or an advantage ,,.as I’m sure Cook was doing on the other side for his benefit ….its a business negotiation …not a church meeting

So as it stands

PNG 850 million (juniors huge )
Chch 700 million (juniors huge)
Perth 120 million (limited to north Sydney juniors)
A few years ago club recruitment officers signed many junior players on their body structure, at 5ft nothing the PNG players wouldn’t qualify on their radar.

I posted a link yesterday about the png hunters

Out of the ones I could find stats for 16 out of 20 were a minimum of 175 cm

Tallest was 196 cm

Your speculation only …

Mine is that it wasn’t really a problem for them …just something they are bringing up for the first time publicly 6 months later to try to deflect

Not really but we have Dolphins and PNG to show what is needed to get in
You honestly can’t use PNG as a bench mark for what is required to enter the NRL.
Take away that Government funding and they are a rugby league loving Country who can’t afford to even buy footy boots.

A bank guarantee is not cash in the bank. The Dolphins were asked to provide a $10mill a year bank guarantee (like an overdraft facility if you will) for 5 years.
Cumins mentioned in his interview that in their revised offer they had also provided bank guarantees.
