The latest media reports are they have moved past the stadium issue …it appears that this can’t be upgraded anyway for several years given they are locked into future tournaments there …so any thing committed to in this area could have been ultimately walked back before it happened by the WA Government later in any event …. The NRL has seen backflipping from State Governments in with stadium commitments before
I have expressed doubts previously around the stadium thing being a red herring that some are pointing to ….its ultimately about how much money the Govt is putting into the game and it looks like they are $60m apart
Wa govt was the one who approached the nrl for a team
They put together an attractive package
Then when the deal was done, without warning, the nrl first have taken off most of those promises
Why were they promising stadium upgrades anyway if they weren’t possible for a while
After they’ve cut out the stadium funding the least they could’ve done was throw the nrl a bone and agreed to the junior funding
It’s like Perth doesn’t really want a team anymore and is making an offer they know will get refused to save face
