Wagon gets a grade 4

Daniel Wagon has been charged with a Grade 4 careless high tackle charge from yesterday's match. He will only miss the one game if he takes the early plea but 2 if he fights it and loses. I dont know how they deemed the tackle a grade 4. The player was falling and comparing that to Nigel Vagana's one it was nothing yet Vagana only got a grade 2.

He'll probably take the ealry plea so it will be interesting who replaces him. If Smith wants to go for a traditional 5/8 he'll use Witt or Thorman but I reckon he may give Muspratt a go. He's a simialr sort of player to Wagon and is tireless in defence. That is unless Hopkins is back.

After reading PB's premier league report it sounds like Muspratt should get the call up.
Probably won't know for sure until Sunday though as Smith will probably name the same 17 for this week and figure out the make up of the side later. Understandable considering the game was only played yesterday.

FYI, story from my site

Wagon charged with careless tackle
Those Eels fans wanting to see a change at five-eighth will almost certainly get their wish with Daniel Wagon charged with a grade four careless tackle. While early reports suggested Michael Vella may be in trouble following his use of the forearm against one of South's players, it was Wagon's tackle that broke the nose of Souths forward Luke Stuart that has been brought before the judiciary, AAP reported.

If Wagon takes an early plea he will miss one match, while he faces a two match suspension if he fights the charge.

While Stuart was falling in the tackle, it's likely that Wagon will take the early plea. That will give coach Brian Smith some food for thought. Luke O'Dwyer may move to five-eighth allowing Smith to persist with his dual-lock strategy or he could promote Chris Thorman or Michael Witt into the top grade and experiment with a more traditional halves combination. Reports have suggested that Thorman is likely to get the call up before Witt. Shane Muspratt who played plenty of five-eighth for the cowboys is another option.

My option would be:

6. Morris
7. Dykes
9. Muspratt

Although Morris did play well at hooker yesterday, I think he'll do a good job at 5/8. He did well last year at five eighth.

This is probably the safest option to take and that's why I think Smith will probably go with this rather than bring Thorman or Witt into the side. I think he may actually leave Morris at 9 and bring in Muspratt at 6.

because it is only round 6 and there are 20 rounds to go!

I would think that Muspratt will get the call up, its deserved.

Pai also goes ok, but defensively Muspratt appears more sound. And he can play back row or hooker, so Morris and he can alternate depending on the situation in the game.

I don't think he will more O'Dwyer to 5/8th, thats a bit to much to ask of him at this stage

Either way, its only the Eagles... ;-)

It'll take time for Thorman to get used to first grade, Smith's not gonna take the risk on using him straight away. I reckon he'll put him on the bench to start off with.

But I dont see why he brought Thorman over from England, and use him in PL and use Wagon at 5/8 who is ordinary. I mean he couldve used Chris instead of Wagon or even a better 5/8.

Agree. If and when Thorman makes first grade, IMHO it will be on the bench at the expense of James Webster.

You might be near the money HJ, either that or O'Dyer to 5/8 and some one else to lock.

Wags deserves a week or two but if that was a grade 4 then there will be a stack of grade 5's. I'm presuming the judiciary will remain consistent

I'd like to see Thorman get the 5'8th spot however i'm sure the likely outcome will be Morris to no.6, Webster to no.9 and probably Muspratt to the bench.

 Typical kneejerk reaction from the judiciary, probably driven by the fact that it broke the Souths player's nose, rather than the actual severity of the tackle itself.
